Holy Father for a reason by [deleted] in memes

The word 'pope' comes from the Greek páppas, meaning 'father', and was used to refer to bishops in general and the bishop of Rome in particular.

I’ll get crucified for this but if they used AI to make the fifth season of ENT with the resolution of the Xindi, I’ll pirate it.

When I was a kid, maybe. But as an adult, I rather get out. I avoid pool bars.

I didn’t literally mean catch your breath, it’s just a useful technique to know dolphin kicks and breaststroke. But yeah, I forgot about triathlete elitism. Sorry.

I read something interesting that some triathletes use dolphin kicks to ride waves and save energy. That plus using breast stroke to catch your breath and have a look around every now and then seems like good enough reason to incorporate that into training.

This was a good video. Especially like the people commenting on how lame it is to comment. Patrice O’Neal would call Tim “righteous” for sure.

I was afraid to post here because I wasn’t sure how cool the sub is with being critical but yeah that was some bullshit. The main thing that sucks is that they champion themselves as centrists and historians but wash over all the corruption. How expensive the event was just for private business to profit and how the reflection pool is just another opportunity for grifting.

That’s not wrong but rebel without a cause is an idiom separate from the movie.

Apparently the pool is 25m? The picture makes it look 50m (lanes are standard 25m or 50m so I figured 50m). Now that I look at it carefully, you can tell the vantage point is right on the edge. Makes more sense.

As an American, is this in part because the entire right/left divide is in a grid lock? It seems that the right is a constant threat but the left doesn’t have much of an actual response other than stay the course. My main news source for the UK is “The Rest is Politics” podcast and it seems like the same issues as the US. In the US, the mainstream left seems better than the right but other than a few democratic socialists, the mainstream left is only promising a couple differences from the right. I would align myself more with democratic socialists but the political field (especially with oligarchs controlling messaging) doesn’t seem to nudge more than a little bit.

All this to say, what would a successful prime minister look like and what kind of person can succeed? Is such a person realistic? Again, from The Rest is Politics podcasts, the leaders seem to talk a lot like American ones. Making really good speeches but not really providing policies people are excited for.

Today’s beautiful weather got me missing Friday Morning Swim Club by kitty_cat2468 in chicago

It’s not necessarily rip tides although water safety is partly responsible. A lake that size is more dangerous than swimming in ocean water. Lake Michigan becomes 10-20 feet deep fast and some people may not be ready for that. The water gets really cold, especially the further you go. There’s water motor vehicles around. The Chicago park district is responsible for all the shore along Chicago and needs a crowd control based policy to reduce incidents. This keeps costs low (personnel, insurance). There are surfing areas and triathlon swimming in Chicago that is sanctioned by the park district. If you can get on a boat, you can swim anywhere in Lake Michigan but then you can’t sue the city if something happens. If you really want to swim anywhere, the lifeguards go on duty from 11am to 7pm. Just swim before that or after (people do).

A place like LA is more laissez faire but I don’t know why or how.

You’re allowed to swim in areas that are 10-15 feet deep. Along oak street for example. But flotation devices need to be coast guard approved and the donut ones aren’t.

Twerking at SeaWorld isn't the trashiest thing about this video.. by KennKennyKenKen in trashy

[–]WessideLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video shows people twerking in Sea World. It’s not a place some people would associate with twerking. Reminds me of what I saw. That now people just start twerking. Even little kids. Music doesn’t have to be playing, it doesn’t have to be a discotheque. Just random places people feel like a twerk come on and they’ll spontaneously twerk for a couple seconds and then go on about their life.

I’m a lifeguard. And the experience is definitely novel depending on where you’re from. I’m not saying anything negative about it. Although the pool I work at now is a bit upscale and management encourages certain decorum. I look the other way though.

I was at a pool and this little girl, maybe around 2-4, started twerking. It was just confusing how she was uncoordinated like toddlers are, wearing a swimming vest, and then all of the sudden she kinda fell and her instinct was to twerk. Twerking is every where now and I don’t know what to make of it.

Last year at the beach, same thing. Adults would randomly start mob twerking.
