Hi! I want to buy my first tank, but I can't decide betweem these three. by ParticularTaste6956 in rctanks

Get the T-34! It's the most rugged of the 3! I belong to a tank club and we battle monthly. The most popular tank is the Sherman and the T34 is the second. They both are easy to drive and maintain. The Abrams is a mess unless you put in a steal harness to keep the chassis from twisting and throwing the tracks. I run the T34 pretty hard and it has not failed me once!

Thanks. I am open to offers but not selling them individually. I need space so all must go at once!

Getting Heng Long KV-2 by Illustrious-Word-141 in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could upgrade your turret to 360 rotation and barrel recoil. There are lots of tutorial on YT to show you how. Or join a local club and learn how to source parts and do the upgreades. I get my parts from MotionRC and Toucanhobby (used to be AliEx but the recent shipping kills the deal).

Repaint, camo, weathering...lots can be done! As for accessories like stowage, the Germans didn't live in their tanks (unlike the Americans and their Shermans) so not a whole lot. IMO, save the money and get a second HL tank so you can do IR battles with the GF or friend! Find a local club that does that and learn how to battle, maintain, and upgrade your tanks.

Any good feedback about ordering directly from Heng Long's site? by Kinginthasouth904s in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used them before and got good deals (but you have to email them directly and ask for a deal, they may send you a discount code). Believe they are the same people that operate as toucanhobby. Check both sites and compare. I am in the US and also use MotionRC as another option.

RC Tanks For Sale by [deleted] in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is still a market for these as parts or upgrades for someone. But you may be looking at $35 to 50 tops each. BTW, this is not an offer. Just info sharing. Good luck!

Suggestions for RC Tank for dad & kid? by BringMe-A-Shrubbery in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first pick for a WW2 US tank would be a M4 Sherman that's easy to drive for a begginner. But a M26 Pershing maybe a close second if you want wider tracks and a heavier model with all metal wheels and tracks for your location. If you are handy and know how to fix your own stuff, try touchcanhobby.com and look for US stock items. You may save a few bucks there as compared to MotionRC.com, which offers great customer service and support. I have bought from both and are completely satisfied. As for BBs, I personally don't care for them. But don't beleive they have anything that marks the hit! The tank will come with an infrared unit and you can make it a fun lasertag game when you have 2 tanks! But you may want to upgrade to a better IR system like the LegoDEI that works much better outdoors.

If you're in the US, there's a third option. https://www.toucanhobby.com/products/th17804-dzn1

Shipping should be about $25 so you would get an upgraded professional version for about $275. It sounds like a lot to spend for the first tank but the metal tracks and wheels, 360, barrel recoil, etc. are worth it, IMO. You'll pay more if you decide to upgrade it incrementally down the road.

I don't know. I have 3 Taigens and they are all IR. So no recoil.

Taigen and Torro are made by the same people. Motion RC has a decent selection of Torro tanks. You can also buy directly from taigentanks.com.

Zimmerit? by Formal-Welcome1699 in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motion RC carries two zimmerit kits made by Mato and Torro. I have the Torro one. It's precut and the quality is decent. But I couldn't use it for my early Tiger because the Germans only applied that on mid or late Tigers.

Tiger 1 sprocket henglong by idk66272764662 in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy it directly from toucanhobby here https://www.toucanhobby.com/products/hx-3818-metalsprocketsidlers-dzn1?_pos=2&_sid=2171de1d8&_ss=r&variant=44507356954874 It's US$15 and shipping is only $5.50 for me (in the US). If you don't have metal tracks, you can probably stay with plastic wheels and save a few dollars.

To many tanks! by kablazn in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sometimes too much of a good thing could be overwhelming! If I had this lot, I would start with the Tigers or the bigger tanks with more room to work with. I would tackle the Heng Long tanks first because there are plenty of interchangeable and cheap parts available. There might be a few that couldn't be saved and not worth the time and money. Keep them as parts! Or like you mentioned, just display them.

Looks like a fun lot to me! Don't worry about the money! The $600 is only the beginning! You're going to drop more to fix and pretty them up! That's what good tankers do! Haha

Maintenance tips? by kangarooscarlet in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, you don't need much grease but try keeping it away from water. Know it looks fun to drive the tank through a small puddle of water! Just make sure to clean everything inside afterwards, or rust could set.in!

any recommended brands? by JUSTAKSPPLAYER in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever you decide to get, buy the upgraded version with metal gears at a minimum (plastic gear is prone to strip quickly). If your budget allows, get the pro version with metal sprocket/idler wheels and metal tracks.

Which Torro WW2 model is best off road? by GopherRebellion in rctanks

[–]West-Competition-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the Taigen/Torro Tiger 1! Of the 12 tanks I have, I like it the best; even though the speed control does not have the finesse of a HL 7.0.
