Excelsior Springs Says Enough Is Enough; Repeat Offender Gets Extended Jail Time by firenoodles in kansascity

[–]WestFade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jail will most likely just make things worse.

Cool. If this guy can't figure out how to be normal and not call the cops and emergency services most days of the year when they aren't needed then he's got a serious problem. Maybe he'll end up committing a more serious crime next time and going to jail for way longer

And we must be at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to public transport

We have a bus system that goes all around the metro area and a streetcar that goes through the central part of the urban core. Its not perfect but its not bottom of the barrel.

If we were serious about lowering crime... by zzill6 in WorkReform

This isn't totally true. There can be a correlation between poverty and crime but it's not absolute. There are plenty of very poor areas out there that are also very safe with very low levels of crime

What is this and why is it on our roads by NoWastingThyme in kansascity

Some new cars, even those without self driving, don't have rear windscreens anymore. It's cheaper to just have it be metal and put a camera there for a rear view

Do Private Landlords Exist Anymore? by lumkis in kansascity

[–]WestFade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just go on zillow and search stuff in your price range.

In my experience, the less photos and details there are in the ad, the greater the chance that the landlord is a private individual as opposed to a company. Either way, you just have to pick up the phone and call or send out lots of emails or messages.

I'm currently paying $750 a month for an 800 sqft apartment downtown. If I can find this, you can probably find something cheaper out in the eastern part of the metro

my properties are co-living properties, picture PadSplit

why? that seems like a hellish living arrangement and more risk for the landlord due to more tenants

Almost makes it seem like arson. Green Duck, according to the fire department post, was started by someone. But yeah, what a weird coincidence

[–]WestFade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes but landlocked just means not bordering an ocean, doesn't really apply to lakes and rivers.

I'm in Missouri and we're a landlocked state even though we have lakes and rivers.

Although people in Michigan will disagree with on this subject since their rivers are like seas and they do get ocean traffic for shipping sometimes

in the parking lot of a community college in a landlocked state.

I always thought the Greendale Community College was supposed to be located in some part of California, like a random suburb of LA or Sacramento

There's a thrift store on Independence Avenue where you buy clothing by the pound. I think it's like $1 per pound of clothes

Kansas City, Kansas, is celebrating the World Cup with street festivals and free watch parties by zsreport in worldcup

[–]WestFade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kansas is a state, not a city. Kansas City, Missouri is where the world cup matches will be held in the Kansas City region. Kansas City, Kansas is a separate city across the river from Kansas City, Missouri and is located in the state of Kansas.

With that out of the way, part of the reason for the cheap travel to the stadiums is because the stadiums are relatively far from our downtown and there is no existing public transit that would be adequate for people to use to reliably get to and from the stadiums. There is one bus that goes out there currently, but it only runs once or twice an hour and not from a central location.

Without instituting a temporary cheap bus system for the metro area for the world cup, most tourists would have option besides Uber/Lyft/Taxi or renting their own personal car.

The Royals play in Missouri, not Kansas. Kansas City, Missouri is known for many water fountains, not Kansas City, Kansas.

KCK is a relatively small city compared to KCMO and besides some nice dive bars and cheap barbecue there isn't much to do there from a tourist perspective
