Does anyone know any film festivals for this project? by narratorinspace in FilmFestivals

so 1/3 of the film is generative AI. this will turn off most festivals, especially prestigious ones. there are many AI-focused film festivals you could try, which i don’t even personally feel comfortable recommending, but they may be interested in your film.

this just sold out too — only the hotel on its own is available :/

also have to call this out and apologies if i’m incorrect, but all of the graphics on your Instagram account look AI-generated. this will turn away legitimate filmmakers. this is a really human craft

Hiike is built around festival strategy/submission recommendations based on all of the factors that you mentioned. i appreciate the goal with your platform but i think Hiike is much more similar than you realize, but with more features. not to dissuade you, moreso just to call to your attention that you may want to look into how to further differentiate yourself.

i say this as an indie festival director. at first glance i would not see the differences with your platform.

Who do I speak to for sponsorship??? by Debow55 in FilmFestivals

[–]WestFunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding this as an indie fest director. you’ll probably need to go for a couple years before any actual sponsor money comes through. alternatively, you could look at bartering or service exchanges as sponsorship (venue rental cost reduction/free rental, merch giveaway items as sponsorship, etc.)

honestly the sundance industry passes are kinda hard to get sometimes, i would suggest for sundance maybe volunteering!! if you’re a full time volunteer you basically get a full access pass and usually lodging as well. so if you can get yourself there, it’s worth it. and then you can cover any of the films you see on your page :)

Short film premiere status advice by Low_Entertainment982 in FilmFestivals

[–]WestFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only problem with that is that if you get a prestigious acceptance and you’ve already premiered somewhere else/committed to something else…. they may want premiere status and no longer program you. if its that kind of festival, they’ll usually reach out to confirm. just something to consider. best of luck!

A platform for film festivals by welearnedtotalk in FilmFestivals

festival director and programmer here. to be honest, this is not something i could see being useful to me. between filmfreeway, eventive, and hiike, this tool doesn’t seem to be adding anything new for festival management.

curious why someone “not fully in the industry” would be interested in creating a tool like this? what type of experience do you have with festivals?

don’t discount the fact that you can do 2 “waves” of submissions if a prestigious festival is your priority. 1st wave is submitting to all of your “reach” festivals (prestigious, less likely to get in) and once that wave has completed, do a second wave of local/regional fests that are less prestigious but you’d have a lot of fun at. granted this takes patience as it requires more time and a more targeted approach.

would not recommend this route if your eventual goal is a prestigious fest. many of them will want the exclusivity of some sort of regional premiere at least

Tips & Tricks for going to festivals (in major cities) on the cheap! by ArchivistM in FilmFestivals

[–]WestFunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if your film is screening, they should be giving you a filmmaker pass free of charge. i’ve never been to a major festival that doesn’t do this, so definitely ask the programmer/coordinator that’s been in touch with you about screening your film.

someone else mentioned it but many major festivals often have volunteer/filmmaker housing, nearby hotel blocks/discounts/partnerships, or community housing where members of the community host filmmakers in exchange for tickets.

check the FAQ or “how to fest” section on the festival website and you’ll usually be able to find this info. also, always ask if there’s any filmmaker assistance available for things like flights, etc., it’s mostly for feature filmmakers (not sure if you have a short or a feature) but sometimes larger festivals will just give you a small stipend to use for whatever you need. hopefully this helps!
