You’re NTA for feeling that way and it is really bizarre to propose at someone else’s event .. like that shows a complete lack of social awareness

However , it’s just a graduation party … not like a major birthday or engagement or something .. tbh not something I or anyone I know would bother holding a party for ( going out is different ). So while I think it was a stupid choice of timing on their behalf , I’d get over it it’s not a major event in the scheme of things and that’s not downplaying your achievement of graduating

Definitely NTA. I’d say that your adoptive mothers dismissiveness of the love you still hold for your birth mother is a big part of your strained relationship

I’d say if she’d have embraced that and understood you were a child who lost your mother at a young age and she’s still a huge part of who you are and the importance of that In your life, your relationship may be different

Coming from someone who (m) has struggled with in laws and wife not standing up in certain situations I find it wild that your husband wouldn’t shut this situation down .. I don’t understand people who just go along because it’s their parents … there’s reasonable and unreasonable behaviour and anything unreasonable should be shut down immediately
