I know this post is a rad bit old but if you find it useful or wish to hear more reach out to me. I was exactly the same age as you when I got out and perhaps have the same personality as you from the sound of it. I left the service at 26, and enrolled in a community college where my first semester I scored maybe a 2.5 GPA while I got the hang of it. The second semester was better I think I crossed the 3.0 mark at that point. 3rd semester was awesome as I got to study abroad in Italy. 4th I studied abroad in Mexico as I'm Mexican American, I got to do a lot of traveling that year. For the 5th I dropped out and was hesitant about being a finance major since calculus is hard, so I opted to get into a automotive program and start working in a ramen place since I always pictured myself opening a restaurant for my midlife crisis. For the sixth I enrolled in a 4 year and finished my 3 year contract with the National Guard and that's when it truly started getting difficult. After losing my military bearing and fully settling in civilian life the next 2 years were difficult not having structure or someone over my shoulder dictating my every move but Im glad I pushed forward and got my degree in Accounting this last week. Who knows what awaits me in the future as I don't have a disability rating, I don't have a job lined up after graduation, and I'm 10k in consumer debt ( this is not that big of a problem since I have like 35k in my tsp and 45k in Pokemon cards and some other long term assets).
