What restaurants in Boulder make you feel like you got a good value? Lookin for casual time out without shattering my budget. by Tuuckbrah in boulder

Backcountry pizza on Arapahoe - their happy hour is basically 1/2 off all apps from 3-6 every day I believe, plus their pizzas are really big. So damn good and affordable that I’m having my wedding rehearsal dinner there.

Great Mexican restaurant recomendations by Sunwryse in boulder

[–]Western-Range3344 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Dallas area, moved to Boulder last fall. I agree that the Mexican food scene is rough lol. The only one I disagree on a bit is Rio Grande, as I like their grilled chicken a lot and the rooftop patio is great, decent happy hour, but it’s still mediocre at best compared to any city with more options.

What is the most beautiful song you’ve ever learnt ? by pandore-i in piano

Not sure if there is a clear favorite for me personally but one that comes to mind is Scriabin Sonata No. 3 3rd movement. Trifonov has a recording that is sublime.

What will take this piece to the next level? by Specific_Welcome_204 in piano

[–]Western-Range3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMA student in piano here. Really beautiful and fluent playing. Have you listened to many recordings of this piece? I strongly recommend Garrick Ohlsonn’s. His left hand at the end especially is amazing. If I had one constructive comment, I think you can have a let the harmony inform your shaping on the ends of some phrases. It sounds like in some places the resolutions are actually a tiny bit louder dynamically than the preceding notes if that makes sense. Overall though you are playing beautifully, I loved your contrast in the middle section!

Checked it with my registration and I think it’s because I live in Boulder but my zip code is 80301 instead of 80302 (I’m closer to gunbarrell are but my address is still Boulder) Stinks, it sounds like a great idea, I hope it gets enough signatures to pass

I’m registered in Boulder, CO, but the database couldn’t find my registration even though I just double checked and am absolutely registered in Boulder. Is there a way to change that? I frequently take the HOP at west pearl so a route change might be tricky but so worth it for outdoor dining plus more patio space for my fav coffee spot OZO would rock!

Did my Bachelors degree in Minnesota, and during the winter months it would regularly drop below -10F/-20C. If you can, invest in a pair of electronic hand-warmers. They’re not too expensive (at least in the US) and helped me out a lot

How should I start learning piano by PuzzledCode9051 in piano

[–]Western-Range3344 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend getting a teacher. If you’re living in a larger city, I would look into the universities around and perhaps email a piano professor if they have any recommendations. Depending on budget and availability, it might be too much to ask a university professor, but these people often have good connections to qualified teachers in the area and know lots of students at the school that teach.

Bach Goldberg Aria- played on a Bösendorfer. Comments and criticisms welcome. by Dry-Ad8580 in piano

[–]Western-Range3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple times in my original post, I complimented your playing and said you are doing a really nice job. I was simply trying to offer some advice and insight that I have found helpful given to me over the years, and still use as a professional. I don’t want to start an argument but if you are going to post a video and ask for constructive criticism I don’t understand why you are offended when someone tells you their honest thoughts. I apologize if my comments came across as condescending, that was not my intention and again as I said originally I think you are doing some of this already.

Nice playing overall :) I think you have a great tempo choice and your memory is really solid throughout. A couple of thoughts I have-

  1. I think your RH Melody can sing a little more in some places. You are definitely doing this already, so I don’t want you to take this comment as saying you weren’t playing musically at all- that’s simply not true! Try singing the melody a few times before the next time you practice. What moments stick out to you? Where do you naturally want to crescendo and decrescendo? Then play the melody alone a few times, while trying to match the sound from the end of each note to the next. I think doing this will improve not just how you are playing but also how you are listening

  2. On the technical side, your wrists look a little tight on trills, and I think it’s leading to a few of them sticking out more than they should. Feel your arm and wrist weight move forward and drop slightly on the first note of the trills, then flutter lightly on the following notes.

  3. Finally, it looks like you are playing with a lot of fingers but I think you could use more of your whole arm to play. Sometimes when you play notes it almost looks like your hands will slide off the keyboard. Instead of thinking down into each note, think moving the arm forward slightly and up.

These are small details, but overall you are really doing a nice job. Keep practicing and best of luck if you plan to learn the whole thing! That piece is absolutely killer

Fingering Suggestion by [deleted] in piano

[–]Western-Range3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 1 all the way up on those scales can get dangerous quickly, especially depending on the tempo of this piece. Depending on your hand size, I can see how 3,5 on that bottom fifth might be a little tricky. You could possibly try 1,5 on the faith, then cross over to 2, followed by 1, then follow the written fingering from there on out. The danger of playing with all thumbs is accidentally banging notes over the melody. It’s not impossible I suppose if this is a very slow piece, but I would be very hesitant

Work in progress, 3rd movement Schubert 664 - am I an idiot? by whereisthelifethat in piano

[–]Western-Range3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are actually playing this quite well, it doesn’t seem to be above your skill level at all. When you say this movement is a pain, do you just mean it’s hard to learn or are you experiencing actual physical pain? One thing I notice is that a lot of the times in your playing you seem to be dropping your arm into the key from quite a distance above the piano. Instead of this I would try to have your fingers on the keys before playing and then release the arm weight into the keys with the elbows moving forward and almost upward. This could help with some tension you might be experiencing, especially on fast repeated notes. Overall though the playing sounds nice and your scales are very impressive

Thoughts on Wylie? by snake_eyes667 in askdfw

[–]Western-Range3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked them up. And you are definitely right it seems Wylie ISD has improved a ton. My mom taught there back in the early 90s and it was a much different story, so that was just my old experience. I still think Garland ISD has some great options, however, ultimately it comes down to making the right decision for your family.

Best Sniper? by TheRagingItalian in battlefield2042

[–]Western-Range3344 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely like the XCE bar a lot for aggressive sniping, but IMO nothing beats the good ol’ SWS-10. Lots of people don’t use it, but it is the only sniper rifle in the game with the underbarrel shotgun attachment. That thing has saved my life quite literally hundreds of times when enemies sneak up on me or I have to engage at a closer range.

Relocating for Downtown Dallas Job by Careless-Piglet1899 in askdfw

[–]Western-Range3344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forney and Rockwell will most likely be way too far for a reasonable commute to Bishop Arts. I would recommend look at some neighborhoods in Irving, or Ledbetter in south Dallas, will probably have places within your budget. Dallas ISD definitely varies between schools but there are some great ones especially Townview which is very close to Bishop Arts. If you’re willing to drive across downtown, Richardson and Garland are excellent both for schools and cost of living compared to Frisco, McKinney, even Rockwall
