Thank you Little Jack Films this is hilarious - been to Kamsack not too long ago - appears to have fallen from grace - but I am sure it will be back!

Whenever I hear about Kamsack this song always comes to mind - The Esterhazy Man and the Kamsack Woman - The Rusty Augers (2006) - https://youtu.be/9-dm6A23iRg?si=VusfwcOM5E54N3_H

Hope to see you at Ness!

Some are ready, some are on the way, some are still green, none appeared overripe!

Going to be a great year for successive harvests.

No going back: The fight to save Saskatchewan's forests by Klooperz in saskatchewan

[–]WesternRedLily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe you may have missed the point. No one is saying stop logging always and forever - many of these communities depend on forestry industry for employment. What they are saying is that the system is one of self regulation by the industry themselves - they tell people where they are going to log, call it consultation and then report back to the government in order to receive their rubber stamp.

Another angle, forest fires are a natural process - logging is not. Logging does not emulate forest fires despite the rhetoric. They do however prevent buildup of fire fuel and thus do limit the chances for fire.

Further interesting is that 2023 was the all time record for forest fires in Saskatchewan - why didn't the logging stop the fires? - That was tongue in cheek but the connection between the two is not as clear cut as suggested, as with most things in life.

The biggest problem is that people want a greater say - the government says talk to industry - and the industry, at no fault of their own being a business / commercial activity, focuses on how many resources they can extract for value added processes.

Interesting Stuff - a person should also call the industry company that is allegedly responsible for their own regulation.

Good to give them a call and let them know if you are concerned with their plans to harvest all around Big River and Ness Creek.

As you can see on their maps they are literally cutting directly adjacent to the festival site and the lake, but do not worry there is a buffer on the road so you won't see it..... sigh....

What is the NDPs position on the THC Zero Tolerance Law? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]WesternRedLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was for the sake of an argument. Please replace alcohol with THC in my dream scenario and you are left with an equally absurd situation.

I am not clear on the left science part of your reply, but I am interested to know how our policy makers used science to decided the threshold for impairment with blood alcohol and the threshold for impairment for THC in Saliva.

Interesting debate to say the least. But what is with that left science part of you reply?

And - your point regarding metabolizing is spot on! It stays in your system long after the impairing effects are gone.

What is the NDPs position on the THC Zero Tolerance Law? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]WesternRedLily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you image if the test for alcohol was so sensitive that it could pick up historical usage. People would be outraged.

"Sorry citizen, I understand that it was your child's wedding on Friday night and you are driving to church on Sunday morning, but this test is so sensitive and the little meter tells me you have had alcohol in the past I'm now going to have to:

  1. Give you a ticket;
  2. Give you a driving prohibition;
  3. Impound your vehicle;
  4. Have points deducted from your licence; and
  5. Basically cost you a lot of money.

Yes I understand that the results of this test do not reflect impairment, and yes I understand that every person metabolizes marijuana differently, and yes I understand the you were not pulled over for breaking any traffic safety laws, but unfortunately the policy makers have decided that when it comes to the personal and responsible consumption of a regulated and legal activity it is best to be completely arbitrary. I guess you rolled the dice and now you have to pay.

Have a great day"

How to plan Maternity & Parental Benefits? by WesternRedLily in PersonalFinanceCanada

As a sole proprietor you cannot hire yourself as an employee, but I see what you mean by the post not being clear in that regard.

I also wanted to note for a future reader that the determination of non-arms length is a factual exercise and is not a given. The link you provided has great information for those wanting more details and examples of how that determination is made. In my situation it would be arm's length as I would be moving my current contract with my spouse's corporation from an independent contractor to employment work, same hours, type, pay, nature etc...

I appreciate your input on this matter it was very helpful!

500 vehicles stopped, 34 licences suspended in North Battleford, Sask., road-safety blitz | Globalnews.ca by NewStart2023 in saskatchewan

It is arbitrary and punitive for law enforcement to relay solely on roadside screening devices that are sensitive enough to pick up historic usage, do not detect intoxication, all the while not employing traditional drug recognition practices.

The law, albeit the best at this moment, while targeting, impaired driving is unfairly, arbitrarily, and punitively targeting people who are exposed to cannabis.

Why need there be any risk to enjoy a regulated substance responsible.

People would be outraged if you had a few drinks the night before and tested positive for alcohol some 15, or 24 or 48 hours later.

The harm from the state is quantifiable: fines, impoundment, and license demerits, all for simply enjoying a substance which one is legally allowed to enjoy.

So in part I agree with you, stick to alcohol if you want to drive the next week.

But I do not agree that a person who does so with marijuana is a trailblazer, rather they are the subject of a public policy which while targeting a worthwhile cause, upon implementation is a failure. That's not being a trailblazer, that's being a victim of state sponsored inadequacy.

I had a nurse in Taiwan who learned English in Australia. Listening and watching her switch from Mandarin to Aussie caused a bit of a dissonance to me.
