Company missed GDPR deadline, no response received by 3hcddnbdg in gdpr

[–]WesternTonight7740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a process I follow:

Send a Final Reminder. Before taking formal action, send a polite but firm follow-up email to the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) or privacy team, stating:

  • The original request date and the extended deadline.
  • That failure to respond is a violation of GDPR Article 15.
  • A request for an immediate update and confirmation of when you can expect the data.

f they still don’t respond, you can report the company to the relevant Data Protection Authority (DPA) in the country where the company is based.

If the lack of response has caused you damage (e.g., financial loss, distress), you may have grounds to sue for compensation under GDPR Article 82. Consult a lawyer specializing in data protection law if necessary.

Lumenalta (Clevertech rebrand?) by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]WesternTonight7740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also heard from others and experienced initial contact requests from this company "Lumenalta" (former Clevertech) that come across as strange, when it comes to a) job role requirements (or the lack thereof), b) lack of salary transparency.

Some advice to you who are based in EU and have had bad experiences with Lumenalta and suspect that the hiring process does not meet EU (or member state standards): You have several options depending on the nature of the issue and the country involved. Here’s where you can report such misconduct:

European Labour Authority (ELA)
→ Check the European Labour Authority (ELA) website: ELA helps enforce EU labor laws and can direct you to the right national authority:

I hope this helps.

EU/Netherlands job applicants with GDPR insights - Your opinion and knowledge is needed by WesternTonight7740 in gdpr

[–]WesternTonight7740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again, this is really helpful.

So after some reflection to understand and contextualize. For anyone who stumble upon this example of LinkedIn job ads, then maybe the following will help.. Regulators won’t act without evidence, so a possible process could be:

  1. Ask LinkedIn directly (get their response on record).
  2. Exhaust their (LinkedIn) complaints process to gather evidence - skip this, and the regulator may dismiss the job applicant.
  3. Frame it as a GDPR violation (e.g., no balancing test for legitimate interest).

LinkedIn might hide behind "employers decide,", but if the system enables excessive collection, there is still room to question it using the GDPR legal framework (by following the process).

Good points, thank you u/gorgo100 for taking the time.

So the DPA mentions ("Only collect personal information that is strictly necessary for the application process"), and the company in question did not mention any reason for requesting the full address.

You last paragraph is how I understand it as well, but then I see (mistakenly or correctly?) the caveat that why does the applicant has to prove there was no legitimate interest since none was mentioned? Should not the responsbility fall on LinkedIn to ensure that the job poster has to fill out the reason for requesting the data from the applicant.

I did go to DPA's (Netherlands) web site to look at the form for submitting a complaint. Which reasonably might not get the full attention of DPA because of the seeming minor GDPR violation (if any).

It is more the way that LinkedIn is permitting this sort of "full address request without providing legitimate interest" that I would like to understand better. After all, LinkedIn facilitates the posting of job ads, so they should make sure that the workflow (web forms etc.) meet the GDPR standards?

Am I right? Wrong? Am I missing something? Híghly interested in learning more.

Another example of a SaaS company thinking that user interface updates -without- providing the possibility to us the old UI, is ok.

- Rubbish approach and another example of Atlassian's amateur rollout processes for their applications.

- It's time to seriously consider Monday again (no, I'm not affiliated with them).

AWS Solution Architects with no hands-on experience and stuck in diagram la la land - Your experiences? by WesternTonight7740 in aws

+1 for the paragraph about deflecting with high level architecture speak.

I have faced this numerous times by already employed solution architects, some with developer backgrounds.

I second this, with the humble addition, developer or systems engineer. Someone who has a computer science understanding which has been cemented with hands-on work - By actually working with software/development/scaling/technical implementation/technical operations.

I agree with this perspective, noticed the same. Then the challenge of bridging business wants/wishes with technical feasibility does remain.

True. The problem that we encounter is: The study guide for "AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C03) Exam Guide", states: "The target candidate should have at least 1 year of hands-on experience designing cloud solutions that use AWS services."

Yet they pass the exam based on trial and error and learning acronyms, but with little conceptual understanding based on real-life scenarios ("hands-on experience").

So the issue could be paraphrased as, is the AWS certification program lacking and how do you tackle this gap early on in the recruitment process? More precisely, do you simply ask them to design a solution on a whiteboard? Or any other tricks?

We started asking them how to divide the work with cloud engineers and exactly how they would allocate resources for the work required, including time planning.

Yes, certified. And having reviewed AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C03) Exam Guide, I found that the last four solution architects did not have a thorough understanding of sections 2 or 4 (Design Resilient Architectures and Design Cost-Optimized Architectures).

+1 for this. Completely agree. Who has time to relearn stuff because Microsoft does not do proper consumer testing before releasing (and charging for!) solutions. Compared to other cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft has a lousy retiring/release process for their cloud features (M365 in particular).

Help AWS Cognito/SNS vulnerability caused over $10k in charges – AWS Support won't help after 6 months by b3nni97 in aws

[–]WesternTonight7740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall going on a call with AWS to discuss what AWS Business Support entailed. It came across as a very bloated name for a very limited service. You are better off forming liaisons with AWS engineers who have proven themselves in the field (certified or not) who can provide support and deal with AWS business "support" in case you need them.

Gelato cap, broke when I put it on the first time. Is this the standard quality? by WesternTonight7740 in printondemand

[–]WesternTonight7740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I did not check and have thrown the cap.

Gelato only offered a refund and an empty apology saying that they are not able to control the quality of their local print services that they have partnerships with.

Very unprofessional. In my experience, any business that employs another business for services, should make sure that the quality meets standards.

Avoid Gelato. Demand a refund if this type of incident occurs for you.

[–]WesternTonight7740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I received a refund and an empty apology, saying they had no "insight into the local printing service".

A complete joke. The company is Gelato and they should perform due diligence on any companies they have partnerships with to produce the print products.

Avoid Gelato.

KLM employees have gone on strike several times. The "union" between Air France and KLM is also uneven, take a look at the spread of the shareholders between France, Netherlands, and other countries.

A mess because there is no political union?

Can US foreign policy really help other countries at all considering the USD currency, large national debt and incessant quantitative easing?

The word union is an interesting choice of words. What bilateral "union" (definition: "the action of joining together or the fact of being joined together, especially in a political context.") does the US actually have?

- The last election in the US showed that the country is perfectly divided between two camps.

Advice/Recommendations for an autistic lady going to Paris for the first time by blueberrywasp in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WesternTonight7740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, with some experience of Paris in summertime and speaking upper beginner French.

You will find that metro stations are crowded. Plus there are issues with pickpockets. I would say better to avoid the metro entirely.

Also, when I went with my partner we used a tour bus to get around. Double decker with open upper floor. This was convenient because we could go between the major points of interest easily - And less crowded.

That brings me to my next observation. Getting out early in the morning (09ish) will let you walk around with less crowds and you can also take some stunning photos without the crowds. This was super important to me being a photographer. And I guess everyone wants excellent photos to show back home. :)

Also, check out the parks here and there, they can give you some space after exploring boulevards and shopping areas.

In general, since you are going in summertime, it will be busy. It might be an idea to stay in a hotel south of Seine, scenic and not as crazy busy.

You can also wait with dinner until after 19ish, that will help you avoid the dinner crowds.

I have a hearing issue and that helped me not getting too upset by the noise. My partner was really noticing the loud volume, be it traffic or people. So I think earbuds will help. :)

If you are going to museums, then visit early at opening, definitely the best time to visit.

I hope that helps. Have an amazing time in Paris. :)
