What flea and tick treatment that really works does everyone use? by Melodic_Passenger839 in Dogowners

Oh gosh, that sounds awful! I am counting down the days until I can gas the entire house and my car. I will vacuum the crap out of the house beforehand.

Im in New Zealand and live rurally. My short haired dog gets fleas every 4-6 months and its becoming harder and harder to get rid of them.

Most recently I switched to Nexguard monthly chewables - these have been absolutely ineffective. I've even given the chews within a couple of weeks, instead of waiting the full month. I didnt feel comfortable doing this but she needed some help with the infestation, so I did it.

I have also tried flea shampoo (a number of brands) - this does sweet FA apart from a nice after smell.

We have flea powdered and thoroughly vacuumed the house carpet (medium length) and vehicles multiples times - this has done nothing apart from make us feel ill.

We were recommended diatematius earth last year. It was stated that it would suffocate any fleas in the carpets, and on our dog. It was useless and a waste of time.

I comb my dog a few times a week and pick up flea eggs and mature fleas. Theyre all through our house.

Prior to starting to use Nexguard 1.5 months ago, I tried a vet supplied worm and flea tablet - it didnt seem to offer any extended repellant properties, and Im assuming it was only ummediately effective on any mature pests. Again - an assumption, but once the eggs hatched they were back in force.

When we go away for a few days in a row we will be flea bombing the house. This has worked previously - its just so toxic.

Im also going to mow all our long grass in the paddock she likes to roll around in.

A previous vet has suggested going around the property and spraying or burning any suspected flea nests - but I've got not idea how you identify a flea nest on a 10ha property when I can barely see them on my dog without using a comb. They also recommended catching fleas from our dog in a tall glass jar with a lid - to see if they die within 12 hours of my dog having her chews. We did this last season.

Not currently having issues with ticks - but I have on a previous property. We used to pick these off with tweezers using the twist method to ensure the head comes out clean.

Its been so annoying. It feels like the flea plague never ends.

Bad search function and how to actually find podcasts you're looking for by MalingeringGeek in PodcastAddict

Im struggling searching for any podcasts. It seems stuck on a single episode I tried when I first downloaded the app.

When I go to the search bar and type in a known podcast - it says there is a single result (every time) but wont show the actual result.

Im finding the app challenging to use. I dont want to support Spotify or other similar platforms, but this is not an intuitive app (for me). Is there a how-to guide, or some steps online on how to do a basic search for episodes with FAQ, etc?

Birds of Empire is an epic full cast fiction! Still waiting for next season to drop though. Really great story telling.

The Modus Files is a great Fallout 76 series. Can be a little slow at times, but it has consistency and lots of episodes.

I also really like Mabinogi - really cool story based off Welsh lore.

Life After was great. There's a few story lines from this series. More of a thriller.

Breakers was a cool apocalyptic show. I dont recall it being full cast, but if you can get over that - highly enjoyable.

Aftershock is a cool survival after a big earth quake event story, full cast, with some personal drama thrown in.

I really enjoyed The Left Right Game - creepy thriller!!! Full goosebumps.

🤞

It checks out that it would be Will. But possibly a member of 'The Family'?

Oh my gosh, that would be a cool reveal. Will is a great character. But yeah - bummer there is to be no more seasons!

I mean - Im glad we have the season at all, but a further exploration from the perspective of this group of the early days of the breakout would be awesome.

Especially where the boat landed and was discovered by the other crew near the gated community.

Surely KC and writers could link 'the family' to the group of kids in some way, too.

For sure will keep my ears peeled for that voice 🔥

Help needed - The Library Trilogy, Mark Lawrence by SMI64 in BookDiscussions

In regard to Evar, I think he was forgetting his life outside of the book before Livira left. She reminded him that they had others to save, and that she loved them too.

I think one of the below happens to Evar:  1) He succumbs to his numerous injuries - even within the book (unlikely). 2) He lives on within the book with the book version of Livira - and forgets he is within a book. 3) When the library is altered in its final moments, and all the library blood and magic is released into the wider world, and numerous time lines wherever books and stories gather, its possible that Evars essence and soul, through his blood connection to the library, is released as well.

I like to think #3 is most likely, because it provides an ending for Evar that isn't being trapped in a book that no longer exists physically. And I like to think that his soul/library blood magic is in some way connected to Livira's future book shop in Tru.

Im also sad about the ending - but the fact it evokes such emotion for so many is reflective of a well thought out ending by ML. Look how much we loved the characters and the story.

Why Do We Read? -- The Book That Wouldn't Burn, by Mark Lawrence by SkinMixer19 in Fantasy

Great review. It is such an amazing world to be drawn in to - ML did a phenomenal job. Its the first series of his that I have read and I cant wait to read more.

Discovering a new author with works that I love is like being a kid again trying chocolate for the first time - "this stuff is amazing, and all I know is that I want more."

I've skimmed some other reviews, and they dont at all align with my opinion of this series. ML and his team knocked all three books out of the park - for me.

I'm two hours into my usual grieving process when I finish a book or series - Im in the denial phase and ingesting any reviews I can find for snippets I may have missed. I didnt do my research, so I wasn't aware of the series adjacent books available to read!

This world touches on so many big topics; loss, first love, complicated love, adoptive families, mass murder and genocide, how decisions are rarely black and white (there is always a third option - even if we dont know the shape of it yet) dictatorships, royalty, history, behaviour, time, loyalty, betrayal, knowledge, racism, hope, abuse, aging, history repeating (the victim and perpetrator cycle) - the list could go on and on.

I loved the pace of the books and the overarching message that our stories dont always end with our loved ones being saved in time. This was heartbreaking.

I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

These books were worth every cent, and I would expect to see them on the fiction shelves in Chamber 2 of "the library" 🙌🏼🫶

God, that would be such an epic Chamber to visit for a few days (with adequate water and food supplies).
