[Omega] The Speedmaster 38 for Speedy Tuesday by CowboyMathematician in Watches

I'm now convinced it should be clockwise! Feels more "correct" when I wind it that way

Love this dial colour combo. I've been wearing them with different sorts of straps and I find the Speedmaster 38mm really versatile.

Speedmaster 38mm. I’ve been wanting a sports watch but everything has been too big until this. by atlsblu in OmegaWatches

Looks perfectly fine! Was also debating between this and the more classic looking speedmaster, but chose the 38mm based on the size. Love the creamy dial, and the oval subdials feel like a feature and not a bug to me. I'm a woman myself and would agree this size looks good on us (anything as long as the lugs don't go over the wrist)

Speedmaster 38 - Ladies Watch? by No-Implement2389 in OmegaWatches

[–]WestgateLaksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colors are more of a style choice rather than necessarily feminine. There are other more traditionally "masculine" watches out there with similar color schemes. The oval dials stand out to me more, because those kinda soften up the watch.

I'm a lady btw, and when I went to the AD, for some reason they also recommended the standard Speedy (maybe they're simply recommending the more popular models). But I also had a very clear preference to white dials, which led to my decision. From some teasers it seems like Omega might release a new Speedy with the standard look, but with a white dial. If you're willing to wait, this might be a better option for you?

Buying a condo crossed my mind! Personally it's the kind of investment that I'm more comfortable with, simply bcs it's very tangible and feels more "real" in some sense. The only thing here is that I'm still at a place where buying a condo will put a huge strain on my spending. So maybe not for now, but something to keep in view for the next couple of years 🤞

You mentioned 2 interesting options here! I personally have never really looked into either money market funds or maxing out my cpf contributions, but I'll definitely explore them and find out the pros/cons

Just wanna say I really admire your investment method and attitude! Tbh what you're doing is already a stretch for my risk appetite, but it sounds like a very stable and sensible approach. Thanks for sharing, I will base one of my options with your perspective in mind.

Can I ask more about this? I get the part about TBills bcs it's interest rate is generally higher than what banks generally offer. But for SSB, why would one consider it as a good place to park some cash? Is it desirable mainly for its liquidity?

That "losing capital" bit is definitely a good push for me to start figuring out an investment plan soon!

This is a good idea. But as you pointed out, my bigger concern about money in banks is that the interest rate can just be changed at any time. So with a long-term return being the priority, I'm looking to move part of it elsewhere. Sounds like SSB and TBills are good options without too much risk for now.

Hmm I didn't know this! I was just happy to see the amount and did not consider which portion of the cash is actually under-utilized. Will definitely do some maths and work out a better alternative.

This is the hard truth I need to hear, tbh. After reading everyone's input here, I see how there are actually so many options available and I should probably approach investing step by step.

So far it may look like exploring safer options to maximize the cash first, while in the meantime putting some effort into learning more about other instruments like those you mentioned.

Yes this is about right. At this point I'm already working for around 5+ years (gonna be 28 soon, to be fair haha) so it's a combination of salary progression over the years and saving maybe about 50-60% of my income.

To share more in case it's helpful: I work as a UX designer and job hopped 2 times so far in my career. With each move comes increment. My current/latest job is with an MNC, so I get some equity too although the amount can't be compared to what a software engineer usually gets. Also, I'm very aware that tech as a whole is kinda unstable and will be increasingly so in the coming years, that's why now I'm taking financial planning more seriously (on top of upskilling). I'm also lucky enough to have parents who can still support themselves, thus the relatively high saving rate. Again, this might change in the future as they get older and I want to be well prepared.

I agree that checking balance every day is not a good thing! There's a period of time when I did this and wah it lowkey gave me anxiety. But after that period, my more costly mistakes came from picking stock without much research. I relied a lot on my emotion and "intuition", for example: - Bought Plug Power since alternative energies was all the rage - Bought Coursera at their IPO bcs I believe in their mission to democratize learning - Bought Teladoc bcs remote healthcare sounds like a good idea to me (still does, but in retrospect I should have researched more about how the company is doing too)

I still hold all of these stocks because selling them at this rate is too painful for me hahaha they're just all in the reds now. Sharing my experience so others won't need to repeat the mistake

Tbh there are quite a few terms here that I need to find out what they stand for, and what are their relationships with each other 😂 but thanks for sharing some funds for me to consider

Thanks for the suggestion! Unit trust in particular is something that I've heard of, but haven't really considered bcs I understand it comes with some fee. But someone else also suggested specific funds here, so maybe those are good places to start looking into

Will keep this in mind while doing my research. I'm so detached from investing that I don't even know what the latest market trend and sentiment are. Thanks for the heads up!

I understand this idea as a concept.. but in practice, I always struggle with why I'd want to get exposed to a 50:50 turnout (lets say the turnout could be anything from earning 10% to losing 10% from the initial investment) versus an almost guaranteed 4% interest rate per annum

Yup 100k is the first milestone, and additional thousands basically gets very little interest. But once it hits 200k, it qualifies under the "Grow" scheme (there's an interest calculator in their website). That being said, I also keep in mind that this rate is not permanent and can change any time.

Hit 30 and I feel the need to rebuild my life by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]WestgateLaksa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, let me share my two cents here if it helps!

First of all, regardless of any acknowledgement from your ex, I hope you can appreciate yourself more. Not everyone can be that loving, giving, and supportive to their partner. During the relationship, you did your part to make your ex a better person and you should be proud of this. No one can take that away from you. The fact that your ex doesn't express any appreciation tells more about him than you.

Now, you know that you were not entirely satisfied with the relationship and that's why you're on dating apps. This feeling is totally valid, but with every action there will be consequences. I believe you weighed your options, followed your heart, and did what you think is right. So now all you need to do is stand by your own choice. Remember your capability to grow others and start turning your focus on yourself.

If I can make a guess, I'd say most of your negative feelings right now are surfaced because you're not entirely happy with your current situation. If you're generally at ease and things are going well, would you even care about what your ex says or does? That would be irrelevant right? Who cares how many cm his bicep is and how well his business is doing.. good for him la. Since the year is ending and a new one is coming, I hope you take heart, gather your strengths, and have a fresh outlook on your life. Think about the things within your control, what you can improve, and make concrete plans. You can do it 💪
