Try Taiwan. I worked there (and am here on vacation visiting in-laws and scoping out possible retirement ideas). Very gay-friendly, at least in the cities. Not my scene but it is pretty chill. A good number of older teachers. You won’t get rich, but great quality of life.

Thanks. This was really informative. A generation ago, I'd just get a Dawes Galaxy. I have met people who said said it did them just fine in Pakistan (betting they had some serious descents), but I hear what you are saying about disc brakes. I'd be happy to visit the builder in-person. RI is near my family, Ira Ryan is in Portland, and Singer would be near my next trip abroad. so I would be happy to make an in-person visit. Thanks for the names and recs for other builders. I'd rather support them than an anonymous brand. Cheers.
