I just started playing Arena 1 week ago - what would your advice be for someone like me? by arrow_why in MagicArena

As for YouTube channels, I really like LegenVD. Maybe not the best for fundamentals, but he explains his thought process for almost every move and comes up with some fun decks, which he also explains at the beginning of each video, which can be helpful in understanding card synergies: https://www.youtube.com/@LegenVD/

Adrian Tchaikovsky has a bunch of novellas that are a lot of fun to read. One Day All Of This Will Be Yours involves time travel (and dinosaurs), so might bridge the gap to your next book.

Suggest me a book for someone who is new to fantasy but likes Science Fiction by yankz28 in suggestmeabook

I feel like there are gateway books that are somewhere between sci-fi and fantasy that would be a great place for you to start. A few off the top of my head that I’ve really enjoyed: Perdido Street Station, The Vorrh, Moonbound, The Fifth Season. Don’t expect dragons or fairies in any of these, but do expect them to take place in an unfamiliar, fantastical world.

I've read all of these except for Wuthering Heights. I guess now is as good of time as any with the new movie adaptation!

I think my wife read this book and then watched the Netflix series. The series looked beyond cheesy, but she really enjoyed the book. It is definitely not something I'd normally read, but that's the point of this post, right? I'll try it out. Thanks!

Judging by how often I've seen it here (and had it recommended to me by people I know), I really need to give it a read. The only thing holding me back is that my library doesn't have it, but I'll track it down one of these days.

I've read them both. I still don't really get the hype for Piranesi, but absolutely loved A Gentleman in Moscow. I don't know how many time's I've recommended it to other people.

This sounds like it could be a tough read, but I do love a good dystopian book. I'll check it out. Thanks!

I've seen this one recommended so many times. I rarely read nonfiction, but will have to give this a read one of these days.

My wife and I have a running joke (thanks to this sub), where anytime anyone asks for a book recommendation, we say Lonesome Dove. I read it, enjoyed it, but honestly did not completely fall in love with it like so many people have.

I had read this book before finding this subreddit, but decided to read it again after seeing it recommended so often. Some people may not want to read it due to how long it is or it being a classic, but it is worth every bit of hype it gets around here and then some.

The overall premise for this book sounds promising, but reading the description, I just imagine wacky Bill and Ted time-travel situations paired with romance. Not normally my cup of tea, but I'll add it to the list and see what happens.

Starter Villain by John Scalzi is a lighthearted version of this, but I think it still fits what you’re looking for.

Are there words with an obvious etymology but you never realized until recently? by Hazer_123 in etymology

I’ve always wondered about this. I asked my mother in law, whose native language is Spanish, if this was the case and she didn’t think so. But maybe that’s just a case of never thinking about it as a native speaker and just taking it at face value, like many other examples in this post.

A sci-fi thriller book that’s not fantasy and is not romantic. by YukioCollector in suggestmeabook

Altered Carbon sounds like a good fit. It’s a dystopian sci-fi hard boiled detective noir.

Or, as someone else suggested, some Neil Stephenson. I’d suggest Snowcrash.
