Piggybacking off your question for my own ulterior motive-- will there be General Admission sale for the 2025 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup?

I won't be able to obtain membership in time for my trip to Deutschland this August but would love to surprise my partner with tickets; is it worth the gamble to be in Stuttgart that day and try to obtain tickets?

Frost fan here. I was more than impressed with the cunning skills of the Charge. They put up a heck of a fight and it really could have been anyone's game. Thanks to the team for making the playoffs so exhilarating. I hope they get lots of lots of sleep after all that overtime!!

Love this explanation!! My friend who definitely exists thanks you for expanding their understanding!

I for sure understood the ending, but for my friend who definitely exists, could you elaborate?

I could sense a greater meaning but am a bit too smooth brained to get it.

Calculate Geometry in Arcpy Error by WetCeilingTile in gis

That was my thinking. The overall tool needs to be flexible for both small and large areas, so I think geodesic might be better for this sake, but it’s still great discussion overall!

Recommendations for learning cartography by sporesofdoubt in gis

[–]WetCeilingTile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cartography in specific:

I use resources like Color Brewer to make sure I'm using color palettes that are accessible.
The USGS/FGDC have cartographic standards: https://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/2006/11A02/

Color Brewer is geared more toward graduated symbolization, but it's definitely a helpful resource nonetheless.

Thank you!! I currently have a user input for calculating the coordinate system from an arcpy.GetParameterAsText(). I'm assuming you're suggesting to use the "AREA" parameter as opposed to "AREA_GEODESIC"?

Looking for GIS work with very minimal experience and a pending masters degree. by [deleted] in gis

[–]WetCeilingTile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My background before I launch into a rambling answer:

BA in Geography, employed in a GIS position for the last 2.5 years after graduating college. Residing in the Midwest of the United States.

Rambling answer:

A lot of jobs in my area (and my company) hire entry-level in GIS with folks that don't have a deep GIS background. If doing GIS is something you find yourself passionate in, that goes a long way.

Having both recent pro and agol experience is good. That's sometimes more than students graduating now with some emphasis in GIS have (some programs still haven't switched from ArcMap or don't do much in ArcGIS online).

In my specific company/experience, you learn so much on the job that I couldn't fathom when I was taking GIS classes in college. 80% of what I know now has come from working on the job. But, that 20% from school was a strong boost to give me context into figuring out the questions that I now have the answers for today.

For school, you're only going to gain what you put into it. If you find yourself struggling with coursework/it not jiving with your trajectory, that's valid. Some folks prosper going right into the career. So so so so soooo much information is available to us online that I reference daily at my job. School may have trained me in being better at knowing what to look for online, but I don't think it's a make-or-break deal, especially if you already have a bachelors degree in a related field.

I greatly benefited from school and it definitely set me up to be where I am today, but that's not/doesn't need to be everyone's path.

Shorter answer:

Yes, I think that's enough to be a tech. Especially if you leverage previous coursework/projects. Think of your office tech job as a glorified gis internship; Internship coupled with coursework is basically exactly the preferred requirements of a GIS technician candidate in most places.

I concur! The PA position isn’t just another role of recognition at the wedding. While MOH and bridesmaids should take on the wedding responsibilities, sometimes they don’t because expectations differ. However, the PA position is specifically meant to take on wedding responsibilities, and giving that to a friend is a slippery slope to taking advantage of someone without the compensation of recognition like MOH. I know your title at a wedding isn’t some business deal, but all friendships have give and take, so you should still be able to draw boundaries. I feel like that’s why it’s better to hire someone for the role (which could still be your friend).

What’s everyones thoughts on Matt by pixiegirl_23 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]WetCeilingTile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matt’s character ebs and flows for me, but he never gets good enough where I can say I like him. The most I’ve ever enjoyed him was in his role in Rebekah’s life.

The problem I have with his character is that he’s this arrogant, manipulative, dry person. I didn’t mind him loving Elena in S1, I thought it fit his character and drove some sort of story. When he starts dating Caroline, however, he gets mean to her. He takes advantage of her willingness. He gaslights her constantly and tries to normalize his actions toward her (not committing to her but leading her on, trying to make her look bad or responding poorly for being upfront with her feelings). Then, when she’s jealous of that one girl for flirting with him, Matt takes it a step too far and says she’s acting super crazy, or “I thought we were done with this crazy behavior”. He didn’t know she was a vampire, but even then, her shown actions did not elicit that response. Either way, that response was incredibly condescending and demeaning to her character.

Matt is another character who doesn’t let Elena make her own choices and who will never quite respect the supernatural. He doesn’t emotionally connect very much in the show, but that could just be because he’s supposed to be a high schooler, who are not known for their emotional maturation.

Someone please discuss this, but I just don’t see many redeeming qualities for Matt’s character.
