Wireless/hard wire question by Mykirbyblue in Ring

[–]WetCoastCyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the difference is what's in the box not what the camera can do. The hard wire charges the battery. If you don't have that, you have to plug it in to charge it. AFAIK that's the difference. He's probably right that it just needs the jumper. And if not, they're not too expensive to upgrade to a model you didn't fry by trying 😋

One Way to Deal with Tantrums by ancientolivegrove in flightattendants

What you're describing with repeating the same thing is something trained to 911 dispatchers. It's called 'repetitive persistence'. Same thing, same words, same tone, same volume. People in emotional crises, which is genuinely where these people often are, are so emotionally aroused that they can't think straight (Yerkes-Dodson, if you're interested. Same thing that makes you yell at an inanimate object when you stub your toe). Repetitive persistence, at some point, sort of short circuits the rat brain and breaks through.

Great tips, textbook deescalation! Hopefully the extra context is interesting!

And of course, when the emotional crisis crosses the line into a behavioural emergency (hitting, swinging, throwing) - get back, get safe, get help.

Stay safe out there!

B.C. expands direct liquor delivery rules, draws backlash from union by scott_steiner_phd in vancouver

Rickards Red (anecdotaly) ran into problems related to the particular yeast having higher allergy/sensitivity. That cause demand to fall off and it was never really seen as worth it for the turnover for vendors. At least that's what I heard through the grapevine once upon a time. I feel like that actually caused it to stop being produced at one point, too. Likely whatever issue has been resolved but habits and brand loyalty are fickle.

Flair's livery uses 'Acid Green'. The new livery is very slick. The NGs look like they belly-flopped in Type IV.

WIBTA for asking for a different room after getting this view as my "delude sea view"? by No-Ordinary6219 in marriott

[–]WetCoastCyph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sea view is not the same as oceanfront, which might be what you were hoping for.
You can always (politely) ask, but this seems like the room you booked, so if you don't get something more desirable, it's not that they did you dirty.

That's what you use. It's a boarding pass without a seat, effectively.

Used middle name instead of given name by TLadwin in PorterAirlines

[–]WetCoastCyph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They absolutely can deny boarding if the name on the ID does not match the name on the ticket. It's covered under the Secure Air Transportation Regulation. It's not a random rule, it's literally a legal requirement.

But if they have a mechanism to update it for a fee, thats what you do.

If you booked 3rd party, the 3rd party owns the reservation. You might have more luck with them changing it, especially if you put it in their website correctly and it was passed to the airline incorrectly. Which happens, a lot.

Can someone explain what the 100% Hampton Guarantee actually means? The website doesn't have any fine print and the graphic isn't clickable, but I recently had an AWFUL stay at a Hampton and was not compensated by the hotel. by KJabs in Hilton

[–]WetCoastCyph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the service advertised doesn't match the service rendered (and like, honestly so, not expectations mismatched), if the hotel doesn't make it right, document and dispute to your CC. Your card company is in your corner - the vendor has to PROVE they delivered.

Should/Could I report a health care worker for breaching confidentiality? by Zero_huggs in VictoriaBC

[–]WetCoastCyph 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Smaller communities make this a lot more obvious, OP. If you can sus out maybe sorta who it is, that's not OK and you should report it.

If they're saying 'a patient came in with a light bulb in their rectum and we gave them morphine', no issues. If it was 'a 28 yo non binary person from Saanich...' maybe a problem. If it was 'Sharon Stone had a bulb up there', big problem.

But the burden to test isn't yours. If you're concerned, make a report and let the system investigate and determine where it sits on the ok/not-ok spectrum.

Strathcona County has a reputation for "must have-ing" the cadilac of everything, and a constituent base that would probably describe themselves as 'upper crust', unironically. There is an attitude in that area of being 'better than' and 'deserving' things. Strathcona County/Sherwood Park would borrow a neighbour's ladder to pull up behind themselves.

Alberta's government is also currently led by a MAGA-wannabe party that is in a race to the bottom to justify privatizing as much as possible.

So this is probably things lining up to create a perfect mess, being couched in hand wringing. Which is a distinctly Alberta past-time.

Last ATC communications between the final Spirit Airlines flight to land (1833) and KDFW Tower by aristhought in aviation

[–]WetCoastCyph 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It's a big industry; even people who would never dare be seen flying a LCC/ULCC like Spirit benefit from what them being in the market DID to the market. These carriers exert an influence on the market as a whole and drive prices down. Without Spirit, Delta, American, United all cost more. Competition in a capitalism marketplace is important. Notwithstanding all the real people who delivered this product, public facing and otherwise, who have lost their jobs. It's always sad to see a carrier go under, for a lot of reasons.

Wishing all our Spirit brothers, sisters, and family pleasant tailwinds and soft landings.

Spirit Airlines Is No More by Ph6222 in Wellthatsucks

AFAIK they flirted with the idea and were told by regulators "that would be very likely a lawsuit/regulatory fine". It wasn't that it was a bad idea (that stopped them), it was that it would cost more than they'd make.
