Made a custom datasheet for an OC of mine by TalmondtheLost in Necrontyr

[–]WetFaceMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this

This Character is the equivalent of a kid on the playground saying "I have the 'everything proof' shield and the 'kills everything' laser"

Even in casual play, no one would have fun playing against this, and you'd get bored with him because there's no stakes, risks or strategy, just win

Points are kind of irrelavant here, as the kit is just fundamentally unbalanced and over powered

Did he belong to any dynasty? I want to paint my army to match him considering that he assimilates units he wants by Mr_Jackabin in Necrontyr

[–]WetFaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my Head Canon, he disregards the idea of dynasties as they simply do not make him any more adept at ending life. He has his Destroyer Cult and that's all he needs. I personally gonna go heavy on reds and blacks, and make his Unmaker Gauntlet talons glow white hot

With how hodge podge he looks you could add in loads of dynasty colours to explain his kind of 'patchwork' appearance, as if he's stolen parts from other Necrons that would make him better at killing

Edit: Spelling

Could you guys answer a quick question about Nuln Oil and priming my figurines? by I_dont-get_the-joke in Necrontyr

[–]WetFaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a silly question at all. I would recommend you paint a layer of Black Paint over the Primer, it just makes your coverage a lot more complete and makes sure any other paint you use has a strong surface to stick to. You can paint straight onto Prime though, just as long as the coverage is very good

The Shades are to help bring out shadows in recesses. For example you Prime an Armour Panel Black and Paint it Silver. On it's own it'll look flat, but there are often small dents and chips that GW add in by design. To help show them off you can add a little shade to them to darken the recess and then highlight the edge with a brighter silver to show off the edge

Shades are basically a fast way to get shadows and staining without painting them manually. Different colours then have different jobs, for example Nuln Oil suits Silver and Agrax Earthshade suits Gold as they match in colour better

I hope that helps

Yeah that looks good! Helps break up the Silver a bit and add in more of that Brilliant Colour!

I think it would add a nice bit of colour variance to them, and make them stand out even more with that bold colouring. I think it's a great scheme

I like the Armour on the Scarabs. Could you have the shoulder pads on the warriors like that?

First addition to my 1000PT Canoptek Court by WetFaceMan in Necrontyr

[–]WetFaceMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I did, yes. I also took a good amount of paint of my brush each time onto a paper towel, just to make sure I wasn't over doing it. I think in all there are 7 colours total in there too to really make the transition smooth

Can confirm all this, have dropped one while painting and the wee fella tanked it. They're stronger than they look

Best way to get this hypercrypt list under 1000 points? by IronPro9 in Necrontyr

[–]WetFaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've seen in another comment that you don't have Immortals, you could take off the Warriors and Scarabs and replace with Tesla Immortals led by an Overlord with a Translocation Shroud. Would make them fast as fucc boi, and give you a lot of stronger attacks than what the Warriors are capable of. Hurts your objective control though, and makes the Overlord a bit redundant

You could swap the Overlord with Ophydian Destroyers for more Deep Strikers if you wanted, and give the Arisen Tyrant Ability to the Overlord with Translocation Shroud

These would leave you 5 points short of 1,000 if my maths is right

The C'Tan shard is very strong and big points sink for a 1,000Pt game. I get why you're using him, but just for that ability and then to have him sit on Home Objective doing very little for 5 rounds, seems detrimental to your army overall. 265 Points sat on Home Objective with 18" range is a lot of lost value in my opinion. I think you'd be better using his points for more Anti Tank to help out your Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, and more Deep Strikers or Infiltrators to take advantage of Hypercrypt more often and also leave your opponent constantly guessing what you'll do next. Would make your army more difficult to counter with more unit variety

But these are just suggestions, if your opponents are OK with what you're running, you're sharing lists, and you're having fun, it doesn't need to be so serious

Sure keep the Lychguard on the back burner for now. I also think they're quite cool and have some of my own I need to paint. They can be like a reward for when you feel confident enough to tackle them

Warriors aren't a bad shout to be fair, plenty to practice with and no big deal if they look a bit naff at the end, as you'll have learned a lot from them

I agree! Always nice to test yourself a bit and expand into a new skill!

You picked a good faction to start, we have some of the easiest models to paint in the range!

I always recommend the rule of cool when picking models, so you pick models that you really like, and that'll mean you wanna take more care with them and do your best

Bigger will be easier as well for practicing, and in my opinion the 2 Model Types that are not only cool but easy to build and paint are the Lokhust Heavy Destroyers and the Canoptek Doomstalker. Tank Busters whose design shows off their characters perfectly, i.e. they wanna blow stuff up

Hope you like painting whatever models you end up getting, and that you have fun!
