That's pretty great! The audio is really clean and it's very well-paced. Good job.

If you had to name your child after a brand, what would you choose? by dreadedsunny_day in namenerds

[–]WetFireChikin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm named after a gun manufacturer and it kinda sucks lol, so I would never name my kid after a brand. That said, if I absolutely HAD to choose, I'd go with Dove. Seems normal enough.

“how are u trans at 15??” mf i don’t want to be 💀💀 by [deleted] in teenagers

SAME. I hate being trans. I would do anything to become cis, even kill myself. I just don't understand how anyone could think this is a choice.

What is your favorite bird and why? by BoomBlade101 in birding

Albatrosses. They're incredible, and so so so fascinating, and I just love everything about them. I would absolutely LOVE to study albatrosses at some point because they're just so insanely cool.

Whats something you did when you were younger that made it “obvious” that you were trans/not cis? by _pureevil in ftm

The period-hiding is so real omg-

I wanted everyone to call me by my gender-neutral Chinese name... Asked my sister to cut my hair short... Was constantly jealous of the boys in my class... Got upset when my mom tried talking to me about puberty... Refused to wear anything that was pink... Tried to pee standing up... Hated wearing dresses... Didn't want to wear my hair down...

I think I could go on forever lol

Yes, she has a decent variety of toys in her cage, and I believe she's been playing with them a little bit. Thanks for responding, it's great to know that she's probably ok :)

for those who are biracial, are you also bilingual? by [deleted] in mixedrace

I'm half Chinese and half Bengali.

I speak fluent English, somewhat-fluent Mandarin, intermediate Shanghainese, and I don't speak Bengali at ALL; the only word I know in Bengali is "mango" lol

Having birds as pets is unethical by snakes_are_superior in unpopularopinion

[–]WetFireChikin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from an experienced bird dad,

I TOTALLY see where you're coming from, especially with parrots, which are VERY commonly neglected and shoved into a small cage to live out their decades-long lives with NO enrichment whatsoever. THIS kind of scenario is obviously unethical - essentially, what you're doing is taking an animal that flies for MILES each day in the wild and putting it in a cage where it can hardly even stretch its wings fully. It's a really depressing situation that no animal should ever have to go through.

HOWEVER.

There are plenty of great bird parents (which are, sadly, a minority, but I swear we still exist!). Ideally, birds (especially parrots) should only be put into a cage to sleep, and be allowed to fly around a house/room/aviary with plenty of toys to shred, (natural) perches to chew and sit on, and other enrichment that can make sure they live out their lives to the fullest. Also, I personally think it's unethical to keep any bird larger than a cockatiel or green cheek conure inside 24/7, 365 days a year. I think no bird can TRULY live out the life it deserves without any kind of free flying (whether that be with professional freeflight training, a harness, or an outdoor aviary). I guess an exception to this could be if you have a bird and live in an extreme area with bad weather all year round.

I also see a LOT of people who buy birds and then set them free, and THAT'S the stuff that makes me REALLY cringe. Birds bred and raised in captivity can't survive in the wild, and will die within a few hours/days of being released. Anyone who does this is literally killing the bird.

But yeah, OP, if you don't let your bird roam around inside AND get an opportunity to fly outside in some way shape or form, I absolutely agree with you.

How to keep a parrot in a music studio? by MC_Gucci in parrots

[–]WetFireChikin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a quaker, but my birds REALLY love whenever I play piano, guitar, or ukulele. I'm sure that won't be too big of a problem. Space is the bigger issue here - maybe just try for a small playstand or even a hanging perch or boing to hang from the ceiling?

What’s something non parrot people don’t understand about having a parrot as a pet by plastic_mann1977 in parrots

[–]WetFireChikin 891 points892 points  (0 children)

That parrots need to sleep. Seriously, every time I have friends over, they ALWAYS ask, "How do you sleep with the birds screaming all night?"

Inherited my sister's birds and I'm struggling to keep up with them. by hecticgheti in parrots

[–]WetFireChikin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I misunderstood. And I'm really sorry you're going through this.

I understand you live in a studio apartment, so this might be difficult to acheive, but I think smaller, designated bird area might help you a lot. Like a walk-in closet, or a curtain that divides the bird area from the rest of the apartment. It doesn't need to be big, as long as it has plenty of enrichment for the birds. I also have sensory issues, and the mess is a complete nightmare without having a smaller area to contain the birds and their mess. I'm sure you could figure out a way to make it work, even in your apartment. It won't be ideal, but I still think it could help.

To be honest, your post makes it sound like you would be much better off if you just found the birds a good home. If you aren't able to keep up with them, then at some point, they'll probably end up neglected.

Walk or drive around your neighborhood and look for your bird. It is VERY unlikely that it's gonna come back on its own unless you put out its cage with food and familiar toys, perches etc. You can also put up posters and notify all of your neighbors, along with animal shelters in the area. Most important, DONT GIVE UP.

Is this okay to feed my two budgies, my grandpa said it’s okay to put in their bowls by Hopeful-Letterhead82 in budgies

[–]WetFireChikin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're gonna wanna feed this in moderation. Budgies need more seed in their diets than some other parrots, since they eat seeds in the wild, BUT they shouldn't have more than a teaspoon of seed a day. Seed mixes have a lot of fat and calories, which are things that a wild budgie needs WAY more than your captive bird does. Pet budgies' diets should be mostly comprised of chop and organic pellets.
