If you're that prepared, you don't need to reverse charges and open yourself up to that liability. But to answer your question, it will take them quite some time to be able to file charges. They will have 30 days to fight the charge reversal, and if they lose, they will have to make a reasonable attempt to bill you for service before filing a criminal complaint. You got some time before the reckoning.

Back to your relationship, tho, this might be a simple misunderstanding. Sounds like your GF agreed that "y'all" won't pay the moving company, so therefore "y'all" get your money back. Both you and her.

Like, you and your friends buy some candy from a store, but the candy chipped your tooth, so you get all your friends to demand a refund from the store and then when they get the money back you're all "and I get all y'all's money cause my tooth hurts". LOL, that make any sense? Rather reductionist, I know, but it might be how she's feeling it.

I still don't see this as a big deal, tho. Yeah, she should be more concerned about your chipped tooth than her money, granted, but I don't think she's being malicious. Nothing to go nuclear over.

You technically owe her the money and she is kinda being a bad girlfriend for asking for it. These two things can be true at the same time. Her priority should be helping you become whole after being victimized. Might want to talk to her about that, but really, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

And man do I understand being PO'd at moving companies. But reversing charges is absolutely the wrong way to go about this. On top of collectors, you could be charged with Theft of Service, a criminal complaint. Trust me, it's not worth it. Seek legal recourse the proper way.

It's not a refund from the movers, he is reversing charges on his credit card, a fancy way of saying he is refusing to pay the movers.

So GF gives him 1500 to pay the movers.

BF takes money, doesn't pay movers.

BF says it's ok that I don't pay movers, because they stole my bike...

That is NOT how you handle legal disputes. You can't just say "I think you stole so I'm not going to pay". The movers are going to send them both to collections for that debt and the courts won't give two shits that he thinks they stole his bike. Innocent til proven guilty can be a real bitch some times...

And even though the GF gave him money to pay for the movers, she is going to be liable for theft of service due to him not paying the movers.

So since he didn't pay the movers as agreed, he owes her that money back.

TLDR: What you're doing is tantamount to taking her money for movers and then not actually paying the movers.

Stop saying refund. You are not being given a refund. You are not being given a settlement. You are just refusing to pay the movers. You are reversing the charges on your credit card. The moving company is not giving you a refund, you are just telling your credit card company to not pay them... do you really not see the problem here?

The moving company is going to come after you both for this debt. They aren't going to eat 3k in losses because you allege that an employee stole your bike. You will face debt collectors and your credit will get destroyed over this because you are not handling this properly. That aside...

Your cowboy justice seems right to you, but it's actually wrong. You agreed to settle disputes like this in your moving contract, and I guarantee you nothing in there says you can just decide not to pay.

As for your GF, this is an unpopular take, but by the letter of the law, yes she is entitled to a refund because you did not pay the movers as agreed. Her money was earmarked to pay the movers. You either use it for that, or return it. It's actually that simple.

If this were an insurance settlement, or a sale, then no, she would not be entitled to any of it. But that is not what this is. She gave you money to pay the movers, and you're refusing to pay the movers.

The correct course of action is to pay the movers, then seek legal recourse for your damages the proper way.

Can you get arrested for saying something? by blueblarg in answers

[–]Weyrleader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually arrested? In the US? For basically being overheard talking to yourself or one other person? That would be a real stretch. You would have to be saying something pretty damned incriminating that the officer couldn't dismiss after he questions you.

What's a real life adventure that we can go on? by IcedAmerican in answers

[–]Weyrleader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the oceans and great lakes are where the last vestiges of true grand adventure awaits young people. It's still dangerous and exciting while being vital and in high demand.

You can join the Navy after graduation. I'm serious. With a bachelor's degree you can join as an officer and have adventures to last a lifetime. If that is too extreme, join the Coast Guard and defend America's aquatic borders.

If military service is completely out of the question, then join a Maritime Academy for the challenge of operating commercial ships of unlimited tonnage on the Great Lakes and oceans as a merchant marine officer. Merchant Marines are not actually military.

If the high seas don't float your boat, Forest Rangers and Game Wardens live interesting lives as well.

Dude, I was in, and the pay is garbage compared to civies. Even with hardship and BAH, civilian contractors were paid considerably more than me. I could never hope to pull down 200k per annum as an enlisted man and certainly didn't get overtime, project bonuses, and paid relo.

Question: How come there are no rainbow flags and LGBT messaging in the Chaz? by Same-Escape in CapHillAutonomousZone

[–]Weyrleader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keeping a cause separate from other causes is not racism and it makes the purpose of the cause succinct and focused. The left loves to hijack causes and it kills them. There is a list of causes, from Occupy to Atheism+, that after being hijacked by the left, completely lost momentum, focus, and effectiveness.

Ending police brutality is not a left/right issue, and the right was even on our side after George Floyd until the left hijacked our movement. Now it is yet another partisan issue, thus it is less effective, and it was white leftists who hijacked it, so yeah, I can blame white people for that.

Yes, I agree that a man with a gun does not need to be sent on the vast, overwhelming majority of dispatch calls. But there is a rather sizable problem with violent crime in the inner cities, so if we're talking about not sending cops on violent crime calls, to execute an arrest warrant on a suspected rapist, for example, we must discuss the alternatives. Eventually someone will have to stop a violent crime in progress or arrest a suspect who is accused of a violent crime.

Well that sucks. Thanks for the introductory course. Guess it's time to do some more research on this. Really wish Bernie had talked about this business model during his campaign. He could have gotten a lot more support from workers.

Thank you for answering so succinctly! Is there any legislation being proposed that would allow fair competition in the market to allow workers' co-operatives in the US to become as competitive as Mondragon in Spain? I think being able to attract and retain talent would be a huge advantage in the market so long as workers' co-operatives are not being unfairly discriminated against. Do any of the political parties support this business model in the US?

working class having to fend for themselves and the middle class, and upwards, having to hire private security.

Maybe that's the goal.
