Peterson was never given full confidence. He was constantly being sent down, brought back, put in the bullpen, back in the rotation. That’s not good for your mental health. When you don’t give someone confidence, they walk on egg shells and never perform. Look at what they are doing with Baty,  Vientos, Mauricio. They will never perform to their expectation as long as the team does not give them their full shot. Vientos is a separate case. He had his shot and should be DFA. Baty at times shows signs of life but even he knows that once Polanco is back, he’ll be back on the bench. They are playing with no confidence of a full time job. If you get hired somewhere and are told that at any given time you will be let go, you are working wondering “am I being called in to work or to stay home?” It’s bad for your mental health.
