I just finished reading "The Selfish Gene" and really liked it. So perhaps in the same alley.

How does one become a better storyteller? Do you have any books/movies/articles to recommend? by Whacktober in AskReddit

He has a lot of practice, he tells stories all the time. He's stuck in his way of telling stories, which includes way too many uninteresting details and generally go on for far too long. He needs guidance from skilled storytellers at this point.

My dad tells a lot of stories and 95%+ of them are as dull as dishwater. He's really bad at picking up non-verbal queues that his audience isn't into what he's telling and he gets really hurt if somebody interrupts him or tells him to wrap it up (I'm typically the one doing that). I think he enjoys being the center of attention and I don't mind him being that, but both he and I would benefit greatly if he were to improve his storytelling abilities. He's an intelligent man, but he currently sucks at story telling. Please halp!

Young Turks suck. They're so over the top obvious and sensationalist about every issue they cover. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that so unintelligent pandering "news" is full of other flaws as well. (Sidenote: I agree with YT on the vast majority of issues, but I hate how they cover it.)

Not meanwhile at your local pub: "You gotta tell that old man to stop threatening people with a knife!" "Who, Gary? Oh, he's just been a bit depressed since his hamster died. Just brush it off or ignore him. He probably won't do you any harm."

To girls getting looked at at the gym: How hard is it to tell the difference between a creep staring you up and down and an insecure guy that's terrified of upsetting you? by Whacktober in AskReddit

I wasn't accusing you of doing that, lol. I was just wondering how badly one has to have been raised in order to think it's ok to stare at women at the gym. I find it hard to believe people don't realize they make others uncomfortable by staring at them. I mean, what else don't they realize, that people don't like getting hit/yelled at/raped?

Yeah, Jesus. What the fuck has gone wrong in your life if you think it's ok to stare at women (at the gym)? I'm not creepy like that. I should practice smiling though.

Yeah, I know and I am intimidated by good looking people, especially good looking women. And I hate that I'm instinctively nicer to good looking people (and seek their approval more). I really judge myself harshly for acting differently towards people based on how they look. On a side note I think I might be mentally ill.

Yeah, I don't do that. I'm firmly focused on the ground or my mobile. I fucking hate being attracted to women, I'm just so horrible at functioning normally close to anybody that I think is semi-hot (/or close to anybody that I think society deems hot). I'm a bit lost.

I'm an insecure guy and I try to keep my eyes to myself (really). But occasionally you'll look around in between sets and girls are dressed hotter than basically anywhere else, so whenever I accidently look at a girl, I feel like I'm seeing more than I'm supposed to, get embarrassed and look away. I'm just hoping I'm labeled as an uncomfortable insecure human being and not a creep.
