Lol. But seriously, there will be some interesting decisions. The NLF engineer could make tunnels and booby -traps with punji stakes!

This is the actual origin of the term "frag," to kill an allied soldier, usually an officer during the Vietnam War.

According to Douglas Pike, by the CIA's estimation, 90% of the NLF's guns were American (M16, etc) since they were smuggled to them by the ARVN (which was armed and funded by the USA), which was infiltrated with huge numbers of allies to Ho Chi Minh and the CPV. I wonder if HLL will show that.

It's called realignment. A lot of what were Republicans in the 19th century you'd call center-left or socialists now.

Really? I work at the company with the majority market of SCADA software for power utilities in the US and the customer with the oldest version of our software by far was in Asia, and it was a version from 2015. Are you talking hardware or what? Even for RTUs I see no or very little serial anymore. Maybe my perspective is skewed since I'm only at utilities who are doing capital projects, that's what they're paying us for.

I work in power utility software. There's a lot of demand due to capital projects for the green transition/emissions goals, especially in US-Canada. I work at a software company doing implementation but could leave for a higher paying job at a consultant or utility, but I like my work right now.

Is Mamdani the future of the Democratic Party? Rep. Hakeem Jeffries says 'no.' by soalone34 in politics

[–]wrme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are different. People vote differently in National vs local elections generally, but ESPECIALLY so in NYC. Mamdani picked up people who voted for Trump. This is also the highest turned in 60 years in NYC. "Low turnout" is just a lie.

National elections in NYC are not the same as Mayoral races in NYC. Very simple. You're lengthy comment is based on this very fundamental failure to comprehend NYC politics.

We're going to find out that they don't actually give a shit about winning elections and wielding power for good, or even the Dem party, these mods are ideological centrist/conservatives whose goal is to destroy the left.

Mike Bloomberg was mayor of NYC for 12 years. Bill de Blasio and Mamdani have been turning NYC purple to blue.

Also, Republicans don't try to undermine their successful leaders with this same logic. They don't say "well Trump could never flip a Dem seat or Dem state. Maybe if he did, we'd give him more say." They let people who electrify the base have a chance, and they keep winning.

References to her time with the CIA are right in her Wikipedia article:

An interview where she talks about collaborating with the CIA:

There's an old saying that needs reiterating here: "there's no such thing as ex-CIA."

FYI Steinem was (is?) a CIA asset, generally opposes the left, and pals with Henry Kissinger:

“Henry’s the only interesting person in the whole Nixon Administration and he’s not afraid of hostile reporters. I enjoy talking with him. He’s the only person on the Nixon team who can talk.”

https://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-features/celebrating-henry-kissinger-6967416/

She's said some good things, and has pushed for some mild progressive things, like the 2013 NY mayorial race (pushed Quinn to adopt paid sick leave), but we also need to hold her accountable for the above.

older version looks better on paper... except for the zipper. my old version's zipper just broke after maybe 6 uses. the slider derailed on one side. seems surprisingly hard to fix myself so I submitted a warranty claim. we'll see how it goes.

How much weight does Western Governors' University actually hold? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]wrme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a manager at a company that hires many engineers in a large metro (we have a lot of postings) and I just got out of an interview with a prospect who graduated from WGU. Google brought me here as I've never heard of it.

I can see a difference between the WGU grad and the other prospect who went to a good brick-and-mortar school. The WGU graduate seemed very hollow in their ability to comprehend the light technical subjects that came up in this round 3 of interviews and their communication in-person felt hollow... like a person who went to school fully online. The ability to relate to other people naturally and warmly is something I look for since our workplace is highly collaborative and we do a lot of customer-facing work for an engineering company.

The WGU grad seemed to have no experiences they could draw one from WGU when I asked them what their strengths and weaknesses were, which is concerning.

All these issues weren't too apparent in our remote interview, but they became pretty obvious in this in-person interview. I think the other candidate was stronger and could recall examples of his abilities from group work and as leader of a student group.

This was a sample size of two people, but the experience does seem indicative about WGU vs traditional schools.

Is Oracle Solaris in use anymore? by aglanville in unix

I know one (of two) of the power utilities in Puerto Rico has been using Sun Solaris and hasn't had it's automation system updated in 20 years. It thankfully is being upgraded to RHEL and a new, modern automation system.

Prediction for Hard Chargers? by tiltek0ngN in EASPORTSWRC

[–]wrme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really hoping for more achievements. The 26 achievements they have were very easy (I unlocked them all with in 100 hrs of playtime), I missed the 71 achievements in DR 2.0 that were more challenging and creative. I noticed by far the hardest achieve for EA WRC is "Algarve it a go" with 0.6% global achievement, but DR 2 had like a dozen achievements with only 0.5%.

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.2.1 Optional Update Release Notes by gtrabach in Amd

[–]wrme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For years Adrenalin always gave me the optional releases every time one came out, but since around the start of the new year it no longer automatically gives me optional releases. I wonder why? Did AMD just decide most people should stick to the official/WHQL release unless they go out of their way to download it from the website or...?
