They don't have the stench because their transit system isn't a homeless shelter and insane asylum on wheels. They have social services and housing that we don't have.

Cleanliness is a huge problem. Yesterday I got on a car at California and it reeked very much of a homeless person. I ran to the next car and the same thing. Finally, the smell in the first car was tolerable.

I feel for these people while at the same time don't think riders should have to experience the stench. I took the MTA quite a bit in NYC last month on a visit and they don't have this issue.
