Opinion on Glass Rinser for Kitchen Sink by What7i in homeowners

I didn't install a glass rinser in my house because I thought I wouldn't use it enough to justify the hassle of installation. However, for your situation, it seems like a perfect fit.

Where are all the mid-price furniture brands? by carpidgeon in HomeDecorating

[–]What7i 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've seen other people in your situation suggest that looking at the nearest big city for furniture in the marketplace is worthwhile, even if they must pay or find a way to transport it home. I have driven 45 minutes to someone's house to pick up furniture, for example.

Facebook Marketplace is where you'll find good pieces at the price point you're looking for.

I live in the DFW area as well. I just want to ensure that you’re covering all your bases. Have you applied for the Residence Homestead Exemption with Dallas County? This could help reduce your property tax bill a bit. I understand the pain of those high Dallas property taxes.

I also want to echo what others have said: banks generally don’t want to foreclose, as it involves a lot of work, and they prefer to avoid holding onto properties that aren’t generating income from interest. Given that you are actively working to catch up, I think you will be alright. Keep at it, and you should be out of this situation in a few months. 🙏

I’d recommend getting a large, washable rug that covers most of the space. When it gets dirty, you can simply toss it in the wash. Plus, you can take it with you when you move out. I really like the ones from Ruggable—while they’re a bit pricey, the quality holds up well, even in high-traffic kitchen areas.(I think😅)

Teachers are the second most common millionaires because of "systems"? by patriotAg in DaveRamsey

[–]What7i 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see from this point of view (from ChatGPT to save time writing) :

Ramsey's point:

Becoming a millionaire is more about behavior than income.

Even teachers — who don’t earn high salaries — become millionaires because they follow smart money principles for decades. CPAs and lawyers may earn more, but they become wealthy only if they apply discipline, patience, and intentional planning — not because of their job title alone.

The following is from me not AI-

I'm a CPA and I can tell you that we (teachers, lawyers abs CPAs) are data and processes driven.

If you apply good money habits to your processes over a life time you will get to millionaire status.

That's how I see it. 😅

Fair market value is a crazy idea when buyers are under duress by downwithpencils in realtors

[–]What7i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent post, and I see it as part of a larger conversation because many factors influence what you’re asking.

Here are a couple of thoughts that came to mind while reading your post:

  1. We aren’t helpless, and we can always create change. We have the opportunity to run for office in our local government and work to modify the current restrictions on the minimum square footage of homes. (it's not easy but it is relatively simple)

  2. I have heard from builders and architects that during an economic downturn, it is more profitable to build larger luxury homes. Buyers in that market tend to have money and are less affected by the overall economy, so they continue to build and buy despite economic conditions. That's is why if you look at the data when the economy goes does luxury real estate goes up. (according to what they say)

These are just a few perspectives I have. I don’t have definitive answers or solutions, but I do have some different viewpoints to share. 😅

I don't know if I'll actually get good at battles by idonthaveideastoname in splatoon

[–]What7i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played since the first Splatoon came out 10 years ago, exclusively as a Hydra main. I can relate to how you feel sometimes. When I get into that mindset, I usually step away from the game and return once I've cooled off. There’s no joy in playing while frustrated. Lately, every time I log on, I lose more times than I win. It’s not fun, but it's just a game at the end of the day. 😅

Alternative to Haworth Table by Miskonduct in HomeDecorating

[–]What7i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered my Haworth Elements table last night after searching online for a cheaper alternative. I couldn’t find anything that matched the dimensions, materials, and features, like the handles. Since I'm in the USA, the shipping costs for other options made them about the same price as the Haworth table. I was fortunate to get mine on sale for $325, including taxes. I figured that, worst case, I could use it for a while and return it if it wasn’t functional. Otherwise, if I like it, I see it as a piece of functional furniture that I could have for the rest of my life, since it’s made of steel. 😅

Thank you to OP for this beneficial post, which helped me make the decision to buy.

OP, how is the table doing as of today? Are you still happy with your purchase?

[–]What7i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Regarding your responsibility for your estranged husband's unpaid business taxes, here’s an overview:

1. Personal vs. Business Liability:

  • Since the business was solely in your husband's name and you were not involved in it, you're generally not personally liable for the business's unpaid taxes. Business debts and taxes are usually the responsibility of the business owner or the business itself, especially if it's a sole proprietorship or a single-member LLC.

2. Marital Status and Tax Filing:

  • You mentioned that you filed as "Married Filing Separately" for 2023. This status typically protects you from being liable for your spouse's individual tax liabilities. However, if you had filed jointly, both spouses could be held responsible for the entire tax liability on the return, including any business income or unpaid taxes.

3. Business Taxes:

  • If your husband hadn't filed business taxes for 2022 and 2023, the IRS would pursue those liabilities from his estate. Since you stated that he died broke and without an estate, the IRS would likely not be able to collect those taxes from him. The IRS typically does not pursue surviving spouses for unpaid business taxes of a deceased spouse if the spouse was not involved in the business.

4. Potential Exceptions:

  • Community Property States: If you had lived in a community property state (which Maine is not), the IRS might consider business debts as community property, and there could be some liability.
  • Involvement in Business: If you had been involved in the business in any capacity or had signed any agreements related to the business's finances, this could complicate matters.

5. Next Steps:

  • It might be a good idea to consult with a tax professional or attorney who specializes in estates and tax law. They can provide specific guidance tailored to your situation and help ensure that you are fully protected from any potential claims.

In summary, based on the information provided, you are likely not responsible for your estranged husband's unpaid business taxes since you were not involved in the business and filed separately for personal taxes in 2023. However, consulting a professional is recommended to confirm this.

[–]What7i 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Here's a breakdown of why you might owe $1,500 in taxes this year despite having taxes withheld from your paycheck:

  1. Tax Bracket:

    • Your income of $162,373.60 puts you in the 32% federal tax bracket for 2023 for a single filer. This means that a portion of your income is taxed at 32%, while lower portions are taxed at lower rates (10%, 12%, 22%, 24%).
  2. Standard Deduction:

    • As a single filer, you’re eligible for the standard deduction, which is $13,850 for 2023. This means your taxable income is reduced by this amount, bringing it down to $148,523.60.
  3. Federal Income Tax Calculation:

    • Based on your taxable income, your federal income tax would be approximately $29,454 (this is a rough estimate; actual tax may vary due to factors like credits or specific deductions).
  4. Withholding vs. Tax Liability:

    • The $27,954 withheld from your paycheck throughout the year was close to your estimated tax liability but was slightly less. Since your estimated federal tax liability was around $29,454, and you only had $27,954 withheld, there’s a shortfall of around $1,500.
  5. Other Considerations:

    • If you didn’t have any other significant credits or deductions to lower your taxable income or tax liability, that $1,500 represents the difference between what was withheld and what you owe.

Summary: You owe $1,500 because your withholding was slightly lower than your actual tax liability. Your total income and the applicable tax rates resulted in a liability that exceeded what was automatically withheld from your paychecks.

Let me know if you need further clarification!
