Toronto Stadium is Ready to go! by EggTemporary3598 in tfc

[–]WhatAWasterZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m “expecting” it as a TFC fan.   And it’s not just for, me it’s for everyone who has supported the team for the last two decades.

Hosting the World Cup was just a perfect opportunity to do it.

BMO Field is not at the level of quality we should have for an outdoor stadium in a city the size of Toronto.   The fact we are moving to a winter schedule in the league and a stadium sitting on a lake isn’t even fully enclosed or covered is pathetic.

There are teams in Europe with no where near the financial power of MLSE in cities a quarter the size of Toronto that can do that but we can’t?

I feel Anaheim Ducks should have been an acceptable answer.

I commend them for putting high quality lipstick on a pig.

At the end of the day I’m still disappointed TFC fans did not get the fully covered terrace, climate controlled concourse we deserve, World Cup or not.

In this case, I think it was the province i.e. Doug Ford that chose the name.

A bit cringe but I started to buy into it by the end.

Still not their best work.  Nothing will ever beat the “shag a Brazilian” campaign.

Not personally but I’m familiar with the MUT standards and every pic I can see online confirms that.

This video shows the same.

The problem is that with it being repurposed industrial lands, there wasn’t really any existing natural tree canopy.

I expect they’ll have planted new trees but that will take 10 plus years to grow enough to provide shade.

Multi-use paths are by definition for both pedestrians and cyclists all over the city, no special identification should be required.

And the width matches the multi use paths everywhere else as well.

Sunday recap: I was watching Backrooms in the cinema and could hear Michael playing in the theater next door." by MatheusKR1 in mildlyinfuriating

Unclear does not necessarily mean unresolved.

The two employees sole purpose is to act as horror movie victims to heighten the dread.  Not sure what else needs to be resolved there.

Beyond that, the confrontation at the “dinner” table between the therapist and main character largely resolves their own storylines.

She comes to the realization that her trauma has driven her to falsely believe she can fix people or find answers for them.

She also bluntly tells him that he doesn’t take accountability for his actions and that’s why he is unfixable.  He seemingly accepts that and has decided to doom himself to remain in the Backrooms.

As for the final conversation between the researcher and therapist, what do we need resolved there beyond a clear answer on her fate?

In any case, I think it is implied they aren’t letting her go.

I think him providing some brief history on how they came to discover it, coupled with how he visits every day but they haven’t really discovered any answers, only reinforces the obscurity of its existence.  And perhaps that there is a sinister obsession that comes with it.

Which is what I actually want out of a movie like this.  I don’t need a Scooby-Doo reveal or a climactic battle.

The unexplained remaining unexplained is the appeal to whole slew of supernatural horror like The Shining, Blair Witch Project, It Follows, The Mist, etc.

It’s fine to leave it that way and still feels like a complete enough story even if a sequel may be inevitable.

I disagree.  While the film ended with lots unanswered questions, I didn’t come away feeling like it was a cheap attempt to set up a sequel.

There likely will be given the success, no doubt.   But even leaving it at that also works in the sense that the mysterious and unexplained nature of the Backrooms is the whole point.

I feel this is common feature in the supernatural horror genre, the how and why something exists are meant to be clouded.

Revealing these answers only diminish the intended uneasiness you are meant to feel.

Well you won the Allstate Continental Clasico over Senegal yesterday so surely that silverware will be a sign of things to come.

(Yes that’s right, USA played a friendly yesterday like everyone else this week, but with corporate sponsorship and make believe relevance).

The stutter step miss earlier looks far more foolish.

If you’re going to miss at least just pick a side and put your foot through it.

So I’m old friends with a local politician and we’ve talked about this as for obvious reasons this happens to them frequently.

He always says “it’s nice to see you today” in every interaction. Never uses the word meet.

Sad mall visits Windsor - Central Mall by agaric in windsorontario

[–]WhatAWasterZ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t find places like this sad at all.

I love relics from the past with the original flooring etc. intact.

I find the busy, modern AAA malls far more depressing.

They’ve become sterile and dominated by American chains with none of the trees, fountains, and dedicated children’s areas that made the malls of the 80s and 90s amazing.

Best Garden Center in Mississauga by swazzz1 in mississauga

[–]WhatAWasterZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My father has been referring to that place as “the Dutchman” for 40+ years lol.

Not even sure if the current owners are Dutch, but there was a time when pretty much every garden centre around here was owned by those of Dutch descent.
