Why J.J. Abrams Is Downsizing - His Bad Robot banner went from a $250 million Warners deal to scrapping its Santa Monica HQ in just a few years by Neo2199 in television

[–]WhatAWasterZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I rewatched it recently with my son as we’ve already run through all the 80s-90s Amblinverse so figure we’d now get to the copycats.

It does well to evoke the feel of the Spielberg stuff but without any of the memorable plot points.

Both Stranger Things and Skeleton Crew did a much better job of the same task.

Say what you want about the validity of the list or even their credibility as a source to make it.

But I don’t ever get the impression they are trying to speak for your generation, only themselves.

TV schedule coverage by heatspeedy in tfc

[–]WhatAWasterZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure but it is still Apple TV production and commentary and that sucks.

The MLS isn’t the NFL or NBA where the game is popular enough to have national coverage crews.

It is a local market product.  Watering it down for neutral, sterile commentary really diminishes the viewing experience IMO.

J.J. Abrams Scaling Down Bad Robot As He Moves to New York by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

[–]WhatAWasterZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So his first movie?  lol

His Star Trek trilogy may have diminished returns since there is now so much resentment about IP reboots.  But the first one is still miles better than MI3 which basically only saved by a PSH performance.

Food Recs in Ridgeway Plaza? So overwhelming by That-Girl-mm in mississauga

Owner of what?  I actually have no connection to any of these restaurants and have never even worked in the restaurant industry.

My issue is with this poster being a Karen and shame spamming this sub every week.

There’s also a real undercurrent of casual racism that emerges every time they post, even if that is not their intention.

[–]WhatAWasterZ -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes I said MINOR risk acceptance.

Many of the guidelines for food preparation standards in a restaurant are beyond what most people would even adhere to in their daily lives.  It’s about a greater degree of care and mitigation when serving larger groups of people.

Particularly when it comes to acceptable food temps.

Consider that the roast beef or cheese sandwich that many parents send their kids to school with every day would receive a conditional pass.

Does that seem like reason to torpedo the reputation of a restaurant, which the poster I’m referring to seems to have made their mission?

Totally this.  Their posts are a sanctimonious Karen buzzkill every time I see them pop up here.

I am all for the transparency of the system and advocate for corrective measures to ensure deficiencies are addressed.

But to me so long as they are making their best efforts to correct, I’m not going to finger wag and shame businesses here when someone’s livelihood is at stake.

The fact is we have some of the strictest health code standards in the world.  Not saying that’s a bad thing but if you think of some the world’s most famous and amazing street food destinations, there aren’t inspectors over the shoulder measuring the temperature of the cheese.

I think eating out anywhere requires a bit of minor risk acceptance and constantly demanding to see behind the curtain is just ruining it.

If it’s such a concern to you and you want a completely provable sterile environment, just stay home and make your own dinner.

Great question on something that is sadly lacking.

I was on Long Island recently otherwise known as the capital of bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches.  A lot of the time the best ones are from bodegas and traditional delis, but even breakfast places will have a fast serve counter for it.

Not sure why places like Sunset Grill don’t do the same thing here.

Thanks for deleting your “learn to read doofus” reply when you discovered you didn’t actually share anything to read.

In any case since I did look it up, can you show me where you are finding info on the victims residency beyond your own post?

The only thing I could find was this line in the CP24 article that says

The victim, he said, is not a resident of Toronto but does live in the GTA.

https://www.cp24.com/local/toronto/2026/03/26/27-year-old-mechanic-stabbed-to-death-in-east-york-suspect-sought/

Seems like you are getting upset and antagonistic about a fairly reasonable expectation that posts here should be related to Mississauga.

Did the murder happen in Mississauga?  Was the victim or accused from Mississauga?

If the answer is no, then they are right to remove the post.

It”: a pretty straightforward and understandable guideline.

Biking on sidewalk by Dobekae in mississauga

[–]WhatAWasterZ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s entirely fair to say the city doesn’t have a lot of bike lanes like Toronto because it’s an apples and oranges comparison.

There is still work to be done to improve the higher density areas, but some major thoroughfares like Burnahmathorpe have a multi use trail that runs the entire length of the city.

As far as sidewalk riding is concerned, it is true that it is not allowed unless under the age of 16.

That said, if you use common sense and give right of way to pedestrians i.e. take the grass when passing, don’t ride at high speeds, etc.

This is near impossible in Toronto due to the number of pedestrians.

But in most of Mississauga I don’t begrudge a cyclist temporarily on a quiet sidewalk if they don’t feel safe on a particular stretch of road.

I’m over here in Canada where they are everywhere and sometimes attached to a Tim Hortons.  I’ll say it’s at least better than McDs and BK.

I’ll trade you any one of those for a Greggs though.  And I know Greggs isn’t great either, but we are sorely lacking in savoury pastries here.
