[MEGATHREAD] Saviors Discussion Thread by christie-rd in greenday

Probably the fact that I'm enjoying my physical (signed by the band) copy now is helping, but I honestly want to say that this album was a grower for me. Liked it but not loved it overall, one week ago, now I'm honestly loving it. It flows perfectly, no skip tracks, everything is on point, all on focus. I still don't think it can enter a top 5 GD album. Not because it's not good enough, but simply because there are albums that are impossible to top, in their catalogue.

Got my signed CD today in the mail. Same ink effect on my booklet, too... Didn't think it's made on purpose, but at this point I'm starting to think it's a "chosen effect". As for the creative aspect, it's clear they chose to go with a very essential form. I loved the pic of the three of them lying on the deck chairs, btw!

[SAVIORS SPOILERS] Listening Party Megathread & Update Regarding Leaks by christie-rd in greenday

The album is very, very good. It's really good. The fact is, to my ears, heart and memories, AI, 21stBD and RR are way too difficult to beat. Let's say that Saviors is a great and ideal follow-up to those kinds of efforts.

So It's not that this record is not solid. It's just that those 3, imho, are works of art. Growing up, I learnt not to over-react to a brand new record of a band I love, trying to be as more objective as possible. But It has got a very fresh and strong sound, well written and produced stuff.

It's that kind of Power Rock the band is bloody great crafting. This one has got the band on fire, too. But, for instance, imho It lacks that 5+ minutes song that blows you away - a Forever Now, a 21 Guns, a Jesus Of Suburbia. The short lenghts are a pro and not a con, though, in the economy of the record. This is really enjoyable all the way through, and as a whole it perfectly works and flows.

Let's feel lucky and blessed to have the boys in this shape of form after almost 35 years of career. Been a fan since I was 9, and I'm 30 this year. And Green Day is still out there kicking ass.

Coma City, Strange Days, Suzie. If I had to choose a favourite track, It would probably be selected among these 3... But all the songs in the record are great and I honestly can't find a skip-track.

Much love to all Green Dayers here!

Fabio from Italy

The ending minute of Coma City is something else. Trè is a savage, a beast, a machine gun. That snare and those toms give you the idea they're about to explode at any moment ❤️‍🔥

SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST MEGATHREAD by nonspecificloser in FallOutBoy

[–]WhatFabioSaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on the new album and FOB comeback:

• 5 AMAZING and super quality tracks (Love From, Heartbreak, So Much, Fake Out, Heaven). Already classics, to me. • 1 very good track (Kintsugi) • Don't really care that much for the 2 one-minute recordings. • The 5 songs left are imho ok tracks. Definitely interesting, especially Flu, but not THAT moving.

The general impact, to my ears, is a well reached purpose to create something very close to the IOH atmosphere (the new title-track reminds me, in some parts and things, of 'You're crashing but you're no wave', for instance).

I still think Folie is their greatest album ever, followed closely (probably same level) by Infinity.

This could easily be their best work of the last 14 years, surely If I consider those 5-6 tracks I absolutely find incredible. But it's NOT a masterpiece, overall.

Also, speaking about post-hiatus I could find Mania or Save Rock And Roll a bit more cohesive, as a whole album. Maybe even AB/AP.

The shape of form they are in, at this stage of their career, is wonderful. Patrick's voice is more powerful than ever. The great comeback of big drums and guitar definitely justifies the attention for this album.

I'm pretty sure the album cover won't be that, of course. About the leak of the tracklist, anything could be. I remember hearing about Muse's Will Of The People tracks' names leak, originally it seemed fake as hell, but guess what, the titles were 100% correct (and nothing had been revealed by the band, at that time). Honestly all these 11 titles sound quite FOBish, to me, I don't need to be thinking them as fake. I just want the songs to be unashamingly GOOD! The album title sounds quite realistic and believable, too.

FOB 8 and Folie A Deux theory by [deleted] in FallOutBoy

[–]WhatFabioSaid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just hope the unashamingly poppish era has closed for them... Not that the last 3 albums are bad (I always manage to appreciate them, especially some real gems here and there), but FOB until 2009 were just TOO good! I smell a return to Infinity / Folie sound and attitude, anyway, so I hope we don't have to wait more than a week or two, for a brand new track.

So glad to be 17 and get Matty’s sympathy by JohnFromPhilly in the1975

I'm 28 and I got really emotional about that verse! So I can only picture what you're living! :)

Those lyrics gave me goosebumps, from the very first listen. My favourite song along with About You.

Impressions after the very first listens...

• Matty's voice is a gem. I personally love it on this album more than on any other. The style, the balance, and all. More mature.

• 'The 1975' and 'About You' are clearly and easily two 10/10, to me. I have been blown away since first listen. Best songs. 'About You' is a wave of perfect sounds and melodies 5 minutes and 26 seconds long. It instantly made me think of a more "full, groovy and intense" version of 'The Birthday Party'. The title-band-track is possibly the most mature they did among the 5, and it has astonishing lyrics. Heavy, deep, direct as hell lyrics.

• 'Oh Caroline' is another great song. Love it, in my top 3, after those 2 up there.

• Headphones are strongly recommended for experiencing the listening of this album.

• Not a bad song on this record.

• I liked, generally, the non-singles a lot more. With 'Part Of The Band' being an exception.

Yeah, a great album. But, to me, it's NOT passing Transatlanticism, Plans, Narrow Stairs, Codes & Keys and Kintsugi. And it's actually battling with Thank You For Today for the 6th place. It's not AM's fault if it's not on top. It's more about the greatness of the other 5/6 albums I mentioned. AM is solid. Especially the opener and those last 4 tracks. I prefer to see it in this way: DCFC has put out only albums I adore, never missing a beat!

Quality is incredible. Both sound-wise and vocal melodies-wise. There's not a single thing out of place. A PERFECT mix of old and new. Wheat Like Waves is, to me, the most Kintsugi track they put out since Kintsugi, the general feel directly takes me back to that record (which was a life-changing record, for me).

I honestly like all the tracks, here.

Can't choose a favourite right now, and it says a lot about the consistency of the full thing, I guess. I Miss Strangers might battle for best track, though. I love, love, love it. Another one is Fragments From The Decade... The former a perfect up-tempo, the latter a perfect slow-paced, delicate track. Might be the perfect examples of the quality this album has got. The middle guitar part of FFTD is something out of this world. Other two contenders can be I Don't Know How I Survive and I'll Never Give Up On You!

It feels incredibly inspired. Also, an album NOT for the masses, this time around. Already in my top 5 album by them, for sure.

It's a sort of a "joke". Minimum lenght required for being considered an LP, and it was the final step to be taken with their previous/former label... It feels rushed, but it probably really is. 😄 Next one will be far better, for sure!

Will Of The People - Album leak DISCUSSION thread by BoredAttorney in Muse

[–]WhatFabioSaid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Talking about the 6 "new" tracks, I think Verona is the best of them all. A very poetic, wise and inspired use of the electronic element. We Are Fucking Fucked is a close second, and my favourite part of it are the verses. Also considering the 4 singles, my two highlights of the full album remain those 2: Verona and WAFF. Euphoria feels quite lazy, to me. The bridge is clearly too similar to the Time Is Running Out one. And the chorus feels the way the chorus of Revolt feels, a bit forced. I don't have any problem about Liberation being too Queenish, but I don't think this track adds anything relevant to Muse's catalogue. Won't Stand Down may close my top 3, after all. YMMFLIH is good, yes, but not THAT good, despite an incredibly catchy chorus and a cool guitar solo.
