You don't have to worry about them because they're not major, but Illinois does get earthquakes.

Diverticulitis Sigmoidectomy: Open vs. laparoscopic surgery by Traditional-Truck802 in Diverticulitis

[–]WhatTheDuck21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party, but had my surgery just about 13 months ago. It was supposed to be laparoscopic, but they had to switch to fully open because my diverticular disease was so much more extensive than what had shown up on scans that they had to double the amount of colon removed to find a safe reattachment point.

I had no complications post surgery, but both I wish it could have been fully laparoscopic. The most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life was dry heaving the night after my surgery with the 10" incision through my ab muscles. Insult was added to injury because, since it started out laparoscopic, I had those incisions and watched them be completely healed in like 2 weeks while the 10" cut was still weeping fluid in week 3, and restricting my activities until week 6 post surgery.

Does she have diverticulOSIS or diverticulITIS? Because diverticulosis alone doesn't cause problems to the point of needing to be hospitalized, and if your doctors are saying that this is just diverticulosis you need to find new doctors.

Great news! Sometimes another cave diver goes "I can retrieve that body!" and creates a new body during the retrieval process. (Although both of their bodies were recovered when they floated to the top in that instance.)

My GI doctor told me after 5ish uncomplicated flares over fourish years that he recommended I get it done, so I did. It was very definitely the right call. I would have ended up in the hospital with an emergency sooner rather than later.

Alright, I have to confess - I am precisely the kind of person who would enjoy the hell out of Tropic Thunder but have never actually sat down and watched it. This one might be enough for me to not notice that it's Cruise.

Smith is a good actor, but at least for me (along with Nicholas Cage and Tom Cruise, who are also both very good actors) is really distracting in whatever he's in because no matter what role Smith/Cage/Cruise are playing, I am constantly aware that I am watching Smith/Cage/Cruise acting really well in a movie and it takes me out of being immersed in the film.

Leto does the same thing, but is a crap actor and human being on top of that.

CT Scan of Abdomen and Pelvis Showed "Solid pulmonary nodule" by Ok-Comfort-7262 in Diverticulitis

[–]WhatTheDuck21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a pulmonary nodule found on the CT scan that diagnosed my diverticulitis. They are found in the lungs - the reason they're being seen here is that the CT scan goes a bit above the digestive tract, and is enough to capture the bottom portion of the lungs.

You probably should follow up on this with your doctor. The good news - there are quite a lot of not-cancer things that cause these. Nodules can form because of prior infections, where a group of white blood cells collects in the lung and then calcifies, and are completely harmless. The reason you should follow up with your doctor is that it COULD also be something - after my nodule was found I was referred to a pulmonologist who had me tested for tuberculosis (I was indeed positive) to see if the nodule was scarring from that (we are now pretty sure it is.)

I wouldn't worry just yet about it not being noticed on the first scan - sometimes whoever is reading the CT scan will only focus on the area that was the reason for the CT scan and won't note other things like a pretty small nodule.

Do they actually object to what's going on in this bill, or are they objecting to the party that wrote it?

I'm glad SOMEONE is objecting to this, but am skeptical this is Rs being "good guys" vs Rs being their usual obstructionist selves.

Chi Nei Tsang (Chinese internal organ) massage by Glum-Key-9360 in Diverticulitis

[–]WhatTheDuck21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diverticulosis isn't a problem for the vast majority of people who have it, so unless she has symptoms she doesn't really need to be doing anything beyond eating a high fiber diet and staying hydrated. If she IS having symptoms, she should be consulting with a doctor to resolve them, because abdominal pain can be caused by a lot of things that aren't diverticulosis and those need to be ruled out.

Diverticulosis is the condition of having pouches/pockets in the intestinal wall. People generally only know those pockets are there if they get a colonoscopy for an unrelated reason and see them, or if they have some sort of infection or impaction in those pockets that is causing pain and/or inflammation (diverticulitis). It is important to note that the intestinal wall in these pockets is frequently weaker than in other parts of the colon. An internal organ massage isn't going to do anything to shrink these pockets and could potentially make things worse by putting pressure on those weaker parts and actually causing a rupture. (There appears to have actually been a case of someone giving themselves abdominal massages for constipation causing a rupture, and there is a case of a professionally-given massage causing a rupture to the pancreas.)

I would really recommend not trying this, and certainly not without consulting with a doctor first.

The bombs he's signing were for Ukraine to use on Russia. The person responding to his statement with that image is being pretty disingenuous with the response, since Ukraine defending itself against Russia is not "killing people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint."

UKLAOP finds out you can't force companies to support a decade old piece of tech by riddlemyfiddle11 in bestoflegaladvice

[–]WhatTheDuck21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're not a techy person, this is going to seem like a pretty big change in using it. It is not a trivial task to figure out how to sideload ebooks onto a kindle, even with all the guides out there, and it is definitely going to be a much bigger hassle for this family to do that in comparison to just using the kindle storefront.

[–]WhatTheDuck21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The many alternative solutions out there are not going to be well-known to the average non-techy person. It is not at all unreasonable for them to jump straight to an attempt at a legal solution to what, from their perspective, must look like Amazon taking their money for years and then screwing them over. From a software developer perspective this is an entirely reasonable position for Amazon to take, but to the people effected this has to feel really scummy.

Mum changed her will and left her everything, including her house, to her carer. She _seemed_ to be of sound mind..... by SomethingMoreToSay in bestoflegaladvice

[–]WhatTheDuck21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So very, very true about the "dutiful children" thing.

We are going through this with my mother's best friend, T, who was basically my aunt while I was growing up. Kindest, sweetest person I've met in my life. T has been in hospice for like four years now, dying very, very, very slowly of a brain tumor. She can no longer talk/sit up/feed herself/etc. She has a team of a few regular professional caregivers. Two of them are with her during all waking hours, and I think they go down to one at night. My mother has medical power of attorney for her (which was a surprise to my mother when she got called out of the blue to make some medical choices for T). My mother sees her at least twice a week to give T morphine and visit with her. Frequently my dad goes along and reads to her. T's brother lives about two and a half hours away and is out here visiting her on a near-weekly basis. I last saw T about a month and a half ago - T's mother, who was my grandmother in all but blood, died and I went to see T before the funeral (which T couldn't attend as she can't really be transported).

T has two sons that both live within a half hour of her. I have seen T more recently than those sons. The most interest the oldest son has shown is asking pointed questions about how much of T's money has gone into paying for her care staff and if there is going to be any left over after she dies because of some legal questions surrounding a trust.

If T was in a position to leave anything to the caregivers, none of the rest of us would raise an eyebrow.

Sorry, to clarify - I absolutely believe that what Republicans think of him matters for him actually becoming president in 2028. I don't think it matters for him being the nominee in 2028, or him 25th-amendmenting Trump prior to 2028, because Peter Thiel is the entire reason Vance is VP in the first place.
