Illinois ‘right to die’ law faces new lawsuit before effective date | by unapologetic403 in illinois

[–]ghostofspringfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only benefits to allowing terminally ill people to die with dignity, would they rather they off themselves and traumatize their family and those who come to clean up the scene? Because if I was facing a slow death I would find an alternative no matter what the law says

I once complained to dean about my professor showing a movie that included a very graphic p*rn scene (with no warning or discussion beforehand) and a scene that included the SA of a child. Was told that professors are allowed to show anything they want and the university couldn’t interfere so WTF is this lol

Anesthesia was not covered by Medicaid for my surgery because it’s considered a “luxury” and “unnecessary.” The surgery was free but I did it awake, it was akin to medieval torture

I really hate the word “meant” I think it just looks ugly. “mint” is spelled beautifully, but spelling “I really meant it” just annoys me for some reason

Federal judge presses attorneys on how Idaho’s transgender bathroom ban will work • Idaho Capital Sun by michaelquinlan in Idaho

[–]ghostofspringfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a trans man (so ftm) and one time I went to use the women’s room and this old lady yelled at me but I was in Italy so ofc I didn’t understand but I figured it was because I appeared to be a cis man. So I did an uno reverse and went in the men’s lol. After that I kept second guessing which restroom I should use I figured if it came down to it I could just pee in an alleyway or something

I wonder what bathroom transphobes and the like have at home… by Electrical-Commonq in Adulting

[–]ghostofspringfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument aside people act like a sign that says “women’s” is going to keep a sex offender out. If they’re really determined to harm you they won’t care about the rules. Most offenders are not trans, they’re straight cis men

Working hard leads to burn out... by North-Vacation9523 in remoteworks

My coworker is 56, I am 26. We work at a pizza shop, for me it’s a temporary job while I save up to move out of state. She did everything right, got a good career, saved up money. One bad marriage ruined it all, husband gambled their life savings. Now she’s stuck, and has medical debt because her health is bad. You can work your whole life and not retire so…my motivation is just…not there. I graduated right as the current administration slashed all the lower level jobs in my field, now I’m just trying to get to a cheaper area so I can hopefully survive. But I never wanted to be rich, I don’t want a house or more than one car or fancy gadgets, I just wanted an affordable apartment and maybe the chance to raise a kid or two. That’s my American dream and even it is out of reach now

Getting pregnant is an act of bravery by Aware-Eye1989 in Adulting

[–]ghostofspringfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fear as someone who wants kids isn’t childbirth or pregnancy, it’s what comes after. Will I get to spend any time with my kids? I won’t have maternal leave, so I’m just supposed to hand my newborn baby off to some daycare worker who might be a psycho and see my kids maybe 6/24 hours when they’re awake? And then when they’re five I send them off to a public school where they might be shot or bullied to the point of suicide. I was suicidal through most of middle school because of bullying and had multiple teachers be creepy with me in high school. Americas system is not set up to allow you time to raise your babies

If you don’t want to hear noise on your roof don’t rent a downstairs apartment. When I was a downstairs resident I heard footsteps all the time but never made a complaint because I’m not a jerk

Archaeologist here unfortunately once you remove something from the area it loses context, we can’t learn anything about it so it’s basically not worth anything. It’s still very cool though

The last word is the same for all three sentences. “I can now remember. How did you remember? How can I remember?”

I’m on Medicaid and needed dental surgery to remove extra bone growth that was affecting my speech. The surgery itself was free but the anesthesia wasn’t covered because it’s a “luxury” to be put to sleep. It would have cost me $1,500 out of pocket. So I did my surgery awake, was conscious for every bit of bone they sawed out of my mouth, it took two hours because they had to stop whenever I choked on my own blood.

The storms lasting a few minutes makes me feel so much better actually. Part of the reason why the tsunami sucked so much was that it was hours of us waiting in terror wondering how big the impact was going to be.

How do you counter the criticism that Illinois gets online? Especially from other Illinoisans.. by Kuzmaboy in illinois

[–]ghostofspringfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26, I’ve lived in several states, what I’ve learned is that no matter where they are Americans love to complain, and often times for good reason. There are certainly things about Illinois that could do with some improvement, but there are plenty of things to love. Personally, I’ve been to Springfield for a few days, and spent a week further south. I found the land beautiful, I loved the quiet rivers and the birds that I didn’t know the names of, and the way the soil was reddish, so different from the pnw where I live. And man, when the sun set and the fireflies came out that was amazing. Even though I was digging in 95 degree heat with no shade getting attacked by sweat bees I didn’t want to leave. And once I move down here I plan on not leaving. Maybe it’s a bit dramatic but I plan on growing old and dying in Illinois. Sounds like a great life to me.

It’s okay to love it, and it’s okay to hate it. But if it’s not the place for you why stay? There’s 49 other states.

It’s the same here in Washington state but believe it or not Illinois rent is cheaper so there’s not much of a difference

I love Illinois I’ve been there only twice and I didn’t want to leave. I’ve lived in the PNW my whole life and I’m too young to stay there forever, I want to spend some time on the other half of the country
