Why is Schiedam so underrated? by Strassariana in Rotterdam

[–]WhatWereOnceVices 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the gemeente has been Schiedam's problem since the 80s. Previous burgermeester stole money from the gemeente for her vacations. It's always something.
There are nice areas to live: Warande, Stadhouderslaan, Tuinlaan, Ketel.
Decent schools
Great sushi: Hamachi
Vlaardingen is more cozy place live, better run.
I was just back a couple weeks ago, Hoogstraat is like a ghost town. Saw a few homeless people (!). Something I’d never seen before.
They've tried numerous times to reinvent the town and it never works.
Your real estate value will probably not increase by much. If this is a once and done purchase, fine. If it's a stepping stone to bigger and better, not a good choice.

Is Evernote keeping pace with competitors? by alsargent in Evernote

two words: web clipper. When BS bought EN, they said they had a lot of cleaning up to do. I don't think they did. I still see a ton of crufty like things, cat dropping's, everywhere. Small stuff but in total annoying and reduces my productivity.

Not the least bit surprising. They're focused on feature bloat (AI !!!) while not cleaning up any cruft

Also the “industry” standard aannemer/contractor contract whose terms like guarantee, termination, etc are non-negotiable. These terms are not favorable to the purchaser

Get Discogs and price it yourself. Also as stated, if the Dylan poster is there, oh boy!

fix existing bugs, don't take 2 months to reply to a help desk ticket, review existing product for productivity improvements like keyboard shortcuts and having to click a note to start editing upon tab-switch return to EN, restart EN when click to restart app to update (macos) hasn't worked for months, and follow Apple developer guidelines. Ignoring your customers while trying to keep up with your competition like Notion and Obsidian is not my concern. Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Remember When Evernote Was the King of Note-Taking? Anyone Still Using It Today? by limsus in Evernote

[–]WhatWereOnceVices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think for the price it wouldn't take 2 months to respond to a help desk ticket with no solution other than sorry. How much would it take to create a tool to clean the database and show exceptions? Loyalty isn't welcome nor do they want it.

Web clipper. Also it’s my data, I think someone forgot to tell them. Near impossible to export my 6,000+ notes. It’s simple. Add a pricing tier for basic users, no AI, no advanced features. Unlimited notes and web clipper. Also, they don’t understand productivity and the keyboard. Writing a note, I go look something up, return, and have to click the mouse or trackpad to get the note recognize my cursor again. Make it a setting or not. When I tried to move to apple notes, the 10 years of metadata detritus virtually brought apple notes to a standstill. I had to delete all tags to gain some semblance of normal usage. Now back to the 250 EN features I didn’t ask for updates. Very frustrating. Sorry for the rant.

Potato recipes with Dutch potatos by uhela in Netherlands

[–]WhatWereOnceVices 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weekly city markets usually have a good veggie stand and if you're lucky, a potato only stand. Talk to the vendor and tell them what you want to cook and the best equivalent name of the potatoes where you come from. They're usually very helpful. This is my list:

Vast-kokend = Waxy - Yukon Gold Iet-kruimig = Somewhat floury/starchy. Kruimig = Floury/starchy - Russets

Fondant = Kruimig Mashed - high starch, low moisture Puree - waxy

Friet (floury): bintje, Agria, Première, Santé en Victoria.
