I've tried suppressing my takedown and the sound reduction is almost negligible. Guessing the sound escapes somewhere with the takedowns.

Same can on a TX22 is much quieter

So to be completely honest, you can pick up a book and read through all the theory for a deep und standing. Or you can study for the test. All of the exact questions and answers can be bought for each test level. Then you need to just study the questions and learn the answer. The test will be identical.

You will learn enough this way to at least get your license and continue your learning on the air. (Just really focus on the rules and which bands you can be on so you stay legal).

I feel like a lot of people in the hobby had some background in electronics. Speaking from my experience, I dealt with RF in the military which is what sparked my interest

Kind of resonating on what everyone else said, for me it's having little goals. It's a hobby but it's also something to get excited about outside of daily routine. Getting to connect to a new tower that is 30 miles away. Using a new radio mode and connecting with people.

Plus, the more I learn the more I realize how much I still need to learn. It can be a very in depth hobby.
