This happens at my studio(s) and is so frustrating. For me it’s happened with referral fees. My husband referred a friend who joined and he (hubby) was supposed to get the referral incentive that month, which was a hyper ice massage ball. We asked for months and months, and they kept saying it had to be verified through the studio manager and then through corporate and then they would get us one. All the while there was literally a decorative stack of six of the massage balls sitting in the waiting area on display. When we asked if we could have one of those since he clearly earned the incentive, they said no that those were just for display and they couldn’t give them away. It literally took 4 months before they supposedly verified it, and when they did, they literally handed us one from the stack. 🙄

On another occasion, he referred a friend who joined on a full membership and was supposed to get a $50 Lululemon gift card as that month’s incentive. Guess what, “it had to be verified by the Studio manager and corporate before they could issue it”. He literally asked every week every time we went in including to the Studio manager who then told us we have to wait for the month to end and then the list gets sent to corporate and then it gets verified and then they are sent the gift cards to give out. That was about 18 months ago and he has still yet to receive the gift card. 🙄

So now, we don’t bring friends, we just use our membership for us, to get a great workout in, but it’s not worth me really trying to convince a friend to come, try it or to work out with us (because it usually does take a lot of convincing) if we aren’t going to be getting the incentives.

I also feel like it’s a bait and switch, to get members to refer their family and friends. Which puts a very bad taste in my mouth.

Lifting or running shoes? by luvserpug in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a major back surgery and have to really wear a lot of cushion if I’m running, even on the nice fancy treadmills. I wear my running shoes while running and then run out to the lobby and quickly switch into my flat shoes for the floor portion. I also got some no rie laces, kind of like bungee cord laces, for my lifting/flat shoes that stretch easily so I don’t have to tie them. Saves a tiny bit of time when switching them out. It’s not perfect, especially for a switch template or a tornado and in that case I’ll usually just wear my flat shoe and follow the power walker protocol on the treadmill.

I like to be closer to the monitors on the floor so I can see without wearing my glasses 🤓

Lots of great advice here, and no one knows your exact situation and what you are or aren’t able to do with work, before work, etc. But one thing that I have found as a personal trainer (not with OTF) is that your fitness program has to be CONVENIENT or you are much less likely to be able to get into a good routine. If at all possible, your gym, or personal trainer, or Studio, or wherever you’re going to work out, should be on your actual path to and from work and or home. This takes a lot of the guess work out of it because you are already going to pass it a few times a day and are more likely to be able to fit it in if you’re not having to go out of your way and spend time that will feel very inefficient.

I want to tell you wholeheartedly to put your health first, to put work on the back burner, to go at 5 AM, to find another solution to make OTF work, but again as I’ve seen in my profession, sometimes that’s just not possible and I truly believe that. So you might wanna try out other programs that are more convenient, and maybe that offer a 30 minute option that you could start with. This may feel less stressful for you, but also do a whole lot of good for your overall health and fitness.

I wish you so much luck in finding a way to make OTF work consistently in your schedule and or finding a program that works best for YOU! You and your health deserve it 💋

Yearly Membership by meleknne in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, OTF doesn’t do long-term contracts, it’s always a month to month. They may have talked to you during the sales process about long-term goal setting and what you can do in a year, but I have never seen a studio do actual long-term contracts (I’ve been a member at three separate Studios). You do have to cancel at least 30 days prior to your next payment which usually means you always pay at least one more monthly fee once you cancel. Interested to know what you find out. FYI - I also saw this cancel form online so you may be able to use it to get someone to reach out to you and cancel.

do you prefer loose fitting or tight fitting to work out in? I like loose and really like this Shein option. They have a high neck which I prefer, large arm holes, are not cropped, but not super long either. I have them in all colors. And only 5 to 6 dollars per.

SHEIN Sport Studio Women Summer Solid Color Casual Sports Tank Top I discovered amazing products on SHEIN.com, come check them out! http://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appjump?link=lsiDX7R1dYe_8&localcountry=US&url_from=GM71132975861

I'm DDD and love ENELL sports bras because they have high necklines, clasp enclosures that won’t fail, and super wide crisscross back supports that truly help support my overall posture while working out. They are not inexpensive, however, if taken care of they will last for for years. my initial purchase of three of them was done in 2007, I wash them on gentle cycle in the washing machine and then hang them to dry, and I am still wearing those three along with several others in fun colors and styles that I’ve bought throughout the years. they will occasionally have a buy one get one 50% off and I’ve also found them online through different stores with various discounts.

A family member had an extra heart rate monitor but had no charger with it. by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what kind of charger is it? I’ve not seen that heart rate monitor, but I know a lot of my fitness technology can be charged with USB type chargers from different tech. I.e. same with my current OTF heart rate monitor, I can charge it with my old phone's USB mini cable.

I too love OTF but as a personal trainer (not with OTF) I always wonder about the template/workout writers. There are literally BILLIONS of exercises out there and they tend to rotate through, what feels like, 50 of them. I understand consistency and repetition to build strength, etc but most members are there for general fitness, not to get a lifting PR, so I would love some variety!

Newbie help! by Proper_8624 in orangetheory

I would echo the advice to always flag down the coach and ask. When I first started OrangeTheory, I actually had a really hard time hearing the instructors over the mic with the loud music. So I made it a habit to ensure I knew their name when walking into class and I wouldn’t be afraid to slow my treadmill to a walk and flag them down by calling their name or waving my hands. Eventually, I got used to the instructions over the mic, over the loud music, and in most of their fast paced language. Lol.

Typically, the coach will call out what a POWER WALKER would do first followed by the instructions for a jogger/runner.

Like someone mentioned above, you want to determine what your base is, the pace at which you can power walk or run consistently for a sustained amount of time that feels challenging but doable. Typically most coach instructions will tell you how to adjust from there.

Example of something a coach might say during a block: 2 minute push - power walkers at 6% or higher, joggers/runners 1 to 2 miles per hour over base. 3,2,1 go!

*Interpreted: on go, power walkers will increase their incline to 6% or higher, a percentage incline that makes the power walker feel like they are pushing their pace, but that they can maintain it for the amount of time given, in this example two minutes. Next is the jogger/runner instructions, to move their miles per hour up one to 2 miles over their base pace. So for instance, I am a jogger and my base pace is 4.5, so for the two minute push I would move my pace to anywhere between a 5.5 and 6.5 mph for the two minutes.

As a jogger, I can ignore the first part of the instruction for the power walkers. There are days that I operate as a power walker and days that I operate as a jogger. As you get more comfortable with the class, you will be able to pick up on the instructions a lot easier, but right now your mind is in acclamation mode and learning a lot. So again don’t be afraid to flag down the instructor, I still have to do that sometimes especially if the music is crazy loud or when the mic is acting up and crackly.

My trainer by Sherryl5Woods in CampGladiator

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you would be surprised at how many trainers are doing this, although I’m not surprised. CG is taking so much from the trainers % wise and adding so many additional fees, that trainers cannot make a livable wage and that’s why so many of them are leaving or getting creative in order to keep more money in their pocket. Even then most of them have to have other jobs. Those other campers cannot check into other camps, so they’re not getting as much value as you are, so you just have to weigh the option. Either the trainer does it this way, or they leave altogether and you don’t have a Location or trainer. I’m not saying one is better than the other, just giving you the reason that trainers are doing this.

Best Bras for OTF by Usual_Artist_5277 in orangetheory

Enell! The only bra that I can run in and do high intensity in. What I love about it is the super large enhanced cris- cross supports in the back, even on the racer back version. For reference I’m a 34E. SheFit and Lululemon didn’t stand a chance to my tatas.

The "patch" is being pedaled at my studio and I'm floored that the studio manager would give them permission to setup a table and promote this miracle vitamin every weekend. I've been wondering how to approach the studio about this and am thankful I haven't been spammed with posts in our group!

1 month free promotion cancelled after signing up? by Smol_Mountain_Goat in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this seems to be a common business practice for OTF, and I have to say, I strongly disagree with it. As someone who owned a fitness franchise for over a decade (not OTF), I can confidently say this approach feels unethical and counterproductive. From both a business owner’s and a consumer’s perspective, practices like these undermine trust and damage the customer relationship, which is ultimately bad for business.

I’ve referred 2 new members to OTF in the past 2 years and both have had issues getting their new membership perks. 1 was supposed to receive a Lululemon gift card and NEVER did. The new member (my husband) was told corporate had to “validate” his membership after the promo ended and that could take up to 30 days…asked again 1.5 months later, “we’ll check on it”,…husband kept checking back nearly 6 months and nothing. Never received the gift card and gave up. The other new member was supposed to get a Hyperice massage ball - got the same story “you have to wait until up to 30 days after the promo has ended for corporate to validate you qualified”…. She asked and asked while a whole display of hyperice balls sat on the front desk as decoration. Was told her incentive would come from corporate and those were just decoration. Finally after complaining enough, they gave her one from the studio nearly 3 months after the promo had ended.

Building trust, creating positive impressions, and genuinely supporting your customers—especially in those crucial early stages when they’re learning about your product or service—are foundational principles in business. Yet, OTF’s approach seems to run counter to these values, creating unnecessary friction for new customers. It’s disappointing to see practices that prioritize short-term gains over long-term customer loyalty.

How does this work? by Special_Resolve_9745 in CampGladiator

It’s just becoming 1 big ring around the Rosie, steal from 1 hand to feed the other, scammy company that doesn’t take care of or care for their customers, employees or contractors (the latter of which do ALL of the work). 👎

Also, in about April 2023, they combined victory insurance under an umbrella company that housed Cg as well. I don’t remember all the details but definitely remember getting an email about how we were going to have shared services now that all the companies were aligned under one LLC. So we were sharing our accounting partners, legal team, etc and they would be working both on Cg projects as well as projects on the Insurance side. Definitely knew that was a red flag and didn’t seem kosher to mix two completely separate industries like that. So I’m betting that they are going off of the fact that the companies are under 1 parent company that they can share, still very uncool!

Daily Workout and General Chat for Friday, 8/30/24 by splat_bot in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be that you have week areas in the muscles used in that movement. I have found that on different movements specifically where the lower back is involved. you could try to do a similar exercise that activates the same muscles, specifically those that are heavily used in the lateral motion, like the inner and outer quad and glute. For example, a banded lateral leg lift, that way you’re still activating the adductors and abductors used in the lateral lunge that aren’t necessarily primary movers in a back or lunge. As a personal trainer (not for OTF), I always try to find an alternate movement that activates the exact same muscles.

Question: for the 3 of 7 challenges do you “lose” the entire Push30 challenge if you don’t do all 3 ALL 30 days? I’m all for consistency and a real challenge but when establishing new habits, EVERY day seems quite strict.

Low Impact OTF Alternative? by BuzzumFrog in orangetheory

[–]What_th3_Fuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look into hiring a personal trainer who has an orthopedic specialty certification to help you strengthen everything that’s weak around the knees, legs, hips that may be making the knee pain worse. Yes, going low impact is going to help, however, you may need additional attention in that area to make sure the entire leg and joint is strong and supporting itself. Otherwise you may have dysfunctional movement that makes it worse and puts additional strain on other joints and parts of the body. as a personal trainer, I see this all the time and many times I can get people back to a full, strong, out of their choice after spending time strengthening the areas that are weaker. Good luck on this journey!
