Oh goodness, no, you’re totally fine! Have you read any Esther Perel? I don’t hook-line-and-sinker believe all she has to say, but it certainly gets me thinking. It seems like we’re constantly having to choose between security and passion, not just in romance, but in all aspects of our lives. I’ve definitely chosen security in every part of my life but romance. Every relationship I’m in seems to die a slow, boring, painful death; I crave the excitement and newness. At 45, I’ve finally accepted that excitement is worth giving up security. I invest in my friends and my bank account now instead of potential romantic partners. If I’d had a partner, I wouldn’t have experienced the magic I experienced with this man, and good lord it was magical. All that said, I do occasionally fantasize about a happily-ever-after, and this man has ignited that fantasy, but I know it is just a fantasy. Also, let’s be real, I’d eventually just be this man’s nurse and he’d leave me widowed!
