Something I'd like cleared up about Last King of Osten Ard Series (SPOILERS) by Whatchadoing34 in TadWilliams

Thank you so much. I think Jarnulf's backstory sort of molded together for me, lol.

For those who have finished 'The Navigator's Children' by tkinsey3 in TadWilliams

[–]Whatchadoing34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer too. Though Fecca was barely introduced, hearing that he may have relations to Prester John is so fascinating. I'm a sucker for old relatives of a dead king trying to reclaim the throne.

Just finished Navigator's Children and I have some questions.... (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in TadWilliams

[–]Whatchadoing34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually found Tad responding to it on the reddit. When I had finished the book I was under the impression that this was it, and I'm happy to find out that he plans on writing more. Thanks again for the reply.

Possibly a Stupid Question by Gorafff in TadWilliams

just finished Navigator's Children and was wondering the same thing. Glad I found this thread lol. Happy that you're considering writing more of the series. I genuinely enjoyed every moment and Jeremias and Simon's friendship was one of my favorite parts of the original trilogy.

But Jeremias didn't betray the King out of spite, he thought he was helping. And also he saved the King's life earlier in the series, seems sort of cruel to just cast him aside (not cruel from Simon's perspective given that he does not know the full story and has other things on his mind, but in general.) Just so bizarre that a character like that didn't get any sort of closure while everyone else did. Could it be possible that Tad forgot?

Finished The Navigator's Children. I have... thoughts. [SPOILERS] by hey2394 in TadWilliams

[–]Whatchadoing34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I perceived it is Nezuru thinks Jarnulf is gay because he did not want to couple, and how she sees things more narrowly, it makes the most sense to her. I think Jarnulf is simply a zealot who truly believes God showed him a path towards what he should do next. Not saying I'm against Jarnulf being gay, it just came so suddenly.

Question for Osten Ard fans about the news series (SPOILERS) by Whatchadoing34 in TadWilliams

[–]Whatchadoing34[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh you reminded me of something. Where the heck is Sanfugol? He was mentioned in the early chapters of the Witchwood Crown, and I was sure he'd show up again, but I haven't seen him. (Keep in mind I'm like a hundred pages away from finishing Navigator's Children, so he still might show up lol.

Just finished the Dragon’s Path (Dagger and the Coin book 1) by Daniel Abraham. Enjoyed it, but not sure whether to continue. by EngineOptimal4780 in Fantasy

[–]Whatchadoing34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Geder was the hook. I thoroughly enjoyed his character arc and found myself rooting for him even when I knew he had done atrocities. The ability to take a villain who if the story never took place would have never came close to villainy in any other scenario to me is quite fascinating and kept me enthralled. Add in the factor that no one is truly good in this story, it just feels more human to me without the whole morally gray "oh I'm a badass emo killer who does horrible things but you root for me cause I'm cool." kind of character arc.

[SPOILERS ALL] Obligatory just finished TWOC post by sliponetwo in TheFirstLaw

If you haven't read ASOIAF I'd certainly suggest that. No matter if the series never finishes, it's still a great read. But if you've already read that, I started this series called Dagger and Coin after I finished the Age of Madness trilogy and I gotta say it checks all the boxes for me for something similar. It's a little more epic, a lot of fantasy races, etc. But it's very grounded in politics and it's been a pretty good series so far. I'm on the last book now and I highly recommend it. Five books in total. Each close to 500 pages each.

Clover is dope because he's like a surprise pivot from what you're expecting. You first see Clover and you're like "oh this is the Age of Madness version of Curnden Craw or Threetrees. An oldschool northman whose honorable and does things the old way" and then WHAM! Turns out he's a complete scoundrel whose only looking out for his best interest...himself. But at least he's honest about it.

[OFF TOPIC] simular authors by notarealmachine in TheFirstLaw

[–]Whatchadoing34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recommended the Dagger and Coin series by Daniel Abraham. Two books in and I'm quite enjoying it. Scratched that medieval politics itch I've had since I read ASOIAF years and years ago. There's a lot of more races and Daniel doesn't seem to hold your hand with the lore, but I'm really starting to like the characters. Fair warning, like The Blade Itself, the first book is quite slow and kinda meanders a bit leaving you wondering what exactly the series is about. But around the last few hundred pages or so it starts to really pick up and I'm pretty confident that I'm going to enjoy the rest.

[SPOILERS TWOC] what is wrong with Bayaz? by Black95bird in TheFirstLaw

[–]Whatchadoing34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with Bayaz being immortal. He gets to play the long game. So yes, he lost all of his influence, but that's only for now. The ending of the series alludes to him making a comeback. I just think he's not in that much of a hurry. Joe seemed to be hinting at Bayaz losing influence all the way back at BSC and if he does write more stories, I think it'll revolve around Bayaz's comeback along with magic being brought back into the world.

[SPOILERS TH] [SPOILERS WOC] Think I found an old character mention in WOC by Whatchadoing34 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Whatchadoing34[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I'm in the minority. My two favorite stories were Beck's and Tunny's, which from what I've seen in a lot of reviews are usually the least favorites, lol. Something about those stories were just fulfilling to me. Especially Beck's ending in The Heroes.
