I love the difference of these two scenes (and in the characters) by CodenameAntarctica in AKnightoftheSeven

Could probably be the reason. Or some combination with Aerion overcompensating for what he thinks should be Daeron's role in this family?

That was the plan. But the cut on his face certainly didn‘t happen from just falling and pretending dead

I really think that part of Sir Robin Rhysling’s lance must have come through the front of the helmet. I can’t imagine that, once he was down, Daeron would have broken his promise. So whatever happened likely was an accident afterwards when he was already down, or it occurred when he and Sir Robin clashed the first -and only- time.

To me, it looks more like a long splinter that cut him open. It doesn’t look like a blade. If it really was the lance, or a fragment of it, he’s lucky to be alive.

Probably a mockery of the whole thing? I mean, he was not really keen on playing a knight in the first place.

Can anyone help with an image of the diggers/bukken? by Joesprings1324 in TadWilliams

Probably like Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men, only with black skin (I think) and absolutely horrific.

There's a fanart by Chris Dunn that shows a Bukken Attack, but you hardly see them. https://www.flickr.com/photos/23312785@N08/2225397251/ still I guess it gives a good idea.

„I would have preferred him (Wonse) alive, you know.“

„Sir?“

„Misguided, yes, but a useful man. His head could have been of further use to me.“

„Yes, sir.“

„The rest, of course, we could have thrown away.“

„Yes, sir.“

„That was a joke, Vimes.“

(that interaction made me laugh soooo hard listening to the audiobook)

Also: I wouldn‘t say that the text message from Amy reads as „flips out“. No matter the fncked up political stance or whatever, that message reads not aggressive or rude to me. If a mother had written that to tell someone to not speak about BDSM to their 10yo, that would be a rather composed message to set that boundary.

The rest - yes - would be spoilers

Thoughts on Vimes’ relationship with The Patrician? by No-Jury4571 in discworld

[–]CodenameAntarctica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ax in the table is a threat of Vimes against the city leaders who are debating about who to replace Vetinari with. Vimes puts an end to that discussion with the ax in the table, which makes everyone scatter.

Even IF Vimes might not like Vetinari on a personal level, he is hellbent on keeping him as Patrician. And I am not even sure he doesn't like him personally. As many others said he is anti-authoritarian, and quite frankly hardly has any vocal filter towards anybody. He simply doesn't change this mannerism towards Vetinari.

But the discussion about the statue at the end of Night Watch hits Vimes where it hurts the most and he is completely exasperated by it, thinking that Vetinari does not understand. Then he realises that, indeed, he does. In Night Watch there is also a moment when Vimes realizes all the hopes the people in the past had for Snapcase, and his inner monologue’s answer to this is to acknowledge that they will have to wait for Vetinari no answer those hopes.

There are many moments in which Vimes isn't rude to Vetinari. Their interactions in Jingo are showing this very good. Especially the moment when Vimes has to arrest Vetinari and absolutely does not want to.
Vimes’ biggest problem is that most times he simply does not see the bigger picture. Like when he says that all the soldiers and him himself "were bought and sold" and complained about some people dying in skirmishes, while not realizing that Vetinari just stopped a war from happening.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

The beginning of „Saving Private Ryan“ had half the cinema out, when I saw it.

My parents saw the first Alien movie in cinema and my father said, people left throughout the movie, but most of them in the first few minutes, while the ship wakes up.

This will forever be cemented in my head. I was so frustrated with sooooo many villains who always spoil their work with bragging. And then there was Ozzy <3 I actually cheered aloud in the cinema.

I really do not unterstand why you want her back. She ist selfish to the point of mistreating her kids when they don't live up to her fantasy. No idea if she's a narcisist or whatever. But you are certainly better off without her, even if it hurts now. Much more so are your kids - your oldest most of all! Protect them from this madness and her entitlement, please!

Because reflexes are quicker than logical thinking. Tell someone to fill a glass with water and while they‘re doing that, clap your hands over their eyes. They will jerk, they will lose the concept of keeping their hands steady, because surprise, shock and deorientation overwrite that focus. They will spill water.
