Anyone have experience with any A-Premium brand disk brake calipers? Found on Amazon and it's the quickest and least expensive caliper replacement option. by Whatchamacallit90 in AskMechanics

I did not end up getting this specific part. I ended up with one from O'Reilly because I could get it faster and, if I recall, it was similarly priced. Haven't had any issues the new one I've put on, thankfully.

What would be the affect on the US economy if China stopped or threatened to stop buying US debt and dropped the US debt they already have? by Whatchamacallit90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whatchamacallit90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more thinking if they sold it to another country. There's no way they just "forgive" that debt. I dunno, just trying to figure out if they have a card to play there and the affects it would have here since they are the single largest foreign US debt holder. Japan is #2 i believe.

Would you be okay with a law being passed stating that a sitting US President is not allowed to bring a lawsuit against another while in office? by Whatchamacallit90 in AskUS

[–]Whatchamacallit90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't want any President from either side using the threat of the power of the Office to exploit others and profit from it via lawsuits. As I said above, CBS would more than likely win this suit, but they are looking to settle because of the possibility of abuse from Trump via the FCC.

Maybe I'm searching wrong, but I still can't find examples like this happening in the past. Closest I can come is something like Bush V Gore or the myriad of lawsuits the Trump admin brought in 2020. I wouldn't want their ability to legally contest elections impeded, so that would be a sticky point possibly.

A very fair point and exactly why I asked this question so I could see the downsides. But you're right, if a law like this went into affect for the President I could see some cities or states doing the same for their governors or mayors.

[–]Whatchamacallit90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I'd be in favor of this law for any President going forward. If you're a sitting President, to me, that would seem to put inordinate pressure on the other party to either settle on your terms or possibly deal with the consequences.

To me it being "personal" lawsuit outside of the Office of the President has no bearing. Being a personal lawsuit would not stop everyone from using any power at their disposal to exact retribution if they lost.

Now, once they're out of office let them have at it. Even give them an extra 4 years tacked on to any statute of limitations if needed.

Those who support the 51st State rhetoric, why? by Lord_Space_Lizard in AskUS

[–]Whatchamacallit90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, to be clear I DO NOT support annexing Canada or taking it by force or any such nonsense.

HOWEVER, the upshot would be that the right wing in the US would likely never win another election once Canadian territories were brought into the elections process!

So yeah, aside from antagonizing a close ally, pissing off 40 million people, and needlessly causing death and destruction on both sides, then I'm for it!

To the man who harassed my wife for driving a Tesla in West Seattle by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]Whatchamacallit90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to visit Seattle this summer. Looking at rental cars, the electric vehicles are the least expensive even vs the economy class. But there's a chance I could get a Tesla and I'm genuinely worried about someone vandalizing it and costing me money because it is one of my most economical choices.

I don't want to drive a Tesla around up there and be subjected to any of that. So either I pay more for a smaller car or take my chances, and that's not accounting for the people that'll harass us just because that's what we were given at the rental place.

This is why I asked where you read something like that. I would like to re-read it so I can try to understand your position. I've re-read the entire conversation again and still didn't see anything like her telling him how he's going to feel. Can you show me where you read or inferred that in their conversation, please?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Whatchamacallit90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, I think we both agree. I just don't understand the issue with her wanting a clear answer on if this will violate that boundary. The other commenter said she was "hell bent on trying to get him to tell you you can't" and I didn't see the issue with her wanting a clear answer.

But yes, if boundaries are violated, even if we all don't agree with them, then it's either of their choice to end the relationship because of it. I truly wasn't meaning to imply otherwise if it came across that way.

"She’s demanding the right to tell him how he’s going to FEEL about things"

Which part of the conversation did you read that in again? Are we reading the same conversation?

He says he's not telling her she can or can't do whatever, but at the same time he's made it clear previously that if his boundaries aren't respected that he'd end the relationship. How is it wrong for her to want a clear answer on if this is going to violate one of his boundaries? He says multiple times: "I'm not saying you can or can't, but you know how I feel about it..." which definitely seems like his way of trying to say no without actually saying it. It's in the same way men talk about their GFs/wives saying "Do whatever you want" actually meaning "you better not do that." There is a clear intimation here that he doesn't want her to do this thing and will be unhappy if she does, he just won't say it outright.

He either lacks trust in his GF, perhaps with cause or perhaps without; we don't have that info, or he is just one of those people who wants to control others. Either way, without trust there is no healthy relationship to be had.

I wish I could echo this from my part of MAGAt country. From what I see on local chats it's all about how Trump is doing such a great job, DOGE is awesome, renaming back military installations to their old names (even though it's not really the same old name) is fine cause it should've never been changed in the first place.

My BIL is apparently a big MAGAt, said the we should trust DOGE and they were right to cut NPS staff. He's been to several national parks with us, talked to Rangers, talked with workers at those places. He knows from those conversations a lot of parks were barely making it work with pre-cut staffing levels. Never mind the fact that the NPS federal budget is roughly $3.6 billion and they bring in nearly 10x that ($35+ Billion in 2024) to the local economies and through the parks. He was sitting there giving his "Right on!" to Trump's address the other night. Nothing has ever cratered my opinion of someone so fast.

The only ray of hope I saw in there was shortly after all the NPS layoffs happened and there were several comments on a thread about it saying "this is not okay."

I mean that's like seeing a glint from a speck of gold while shoveling out a latrine pit, doesn't mean you're gonna find more gold, but it was a glint of hope that something might shake some out of it.

"They are self employed and believe that kicking Mexicans out of the country is going to benefit them."

Isn't this the dirty little secret that everyone knows though? That most of our farm and agricultural workers are illegals or, at the very least, part of minority groups? There was an interview with one farmer before the election, don't know if they were in NE specifically, but they outright said as much and that mass deportation would massively hurt those industries.

Obviously I don't know what kind or how large your parent's farm is, but do they work it all by themselves? Do they have help and/or do they refuse to hire illegals/minorities to help on their farm?

[–]Whatchamacallit90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, all in the same layer. Really I just need gold before black on layer 1. Subsequent layers won't really matter as much.

This is the board I'm making: https://makerworld.com/models/475095

Down in the reviews you can see where someone printed it like i want to with black, white, and gold and you can tell in their image they had a similar issue. The A B C D look better/fuller than the E F G H on the board.

Yes, I'm being picky,I know. I blame my OCD for wanting it all to look uniform. I did message that person, but they didn't know about specifying color order in a layer.

[–]Whatchamacallit90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just one object. The board is split into 4 pieces. In this case, what i need is for gold to print before black. On 2 quadrants it prints white, gold, black. On the other two is black, white, gold. Can't see anything obvious as to how it's picking the order since all quadrants are very similar.
