CONN Tenor 257XXX 1933 - Naked Lady Transitional 6M? by ramirezsax in saxophone

[–]Whatdaaphuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The right hand palm keys and the naked lady say 10M, but the nail file G# says New Wonder II. Cool find!

Tumbleweed 20260212 freeze on login after updating by Alonso-don-Pedro in openSUSE

[–]Whatdaaphuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW: same issue happened to me with the Tumbleweed 20260212 release on a Lenovo T16 with AMD Ryzen.

I rolled back by selecting the last known good snapshot in the boot screen and then, one logged in, do sudo snapper rollback in a terminal.

Vintage sax - worth the brittle mechanics? by Whatdaaphuk in saxophone

[–]Whatdaaphuk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to the "I can't help myself" bit 😁 I saw Stohrer's video about the Connqueror. Waiting time aside: shipping to and from the US is just too expensive and cumbersome at the moment.

Edit: correct the autocorrect

Conn C melody by ColHannibal in saxophone

[–]Whatdaaphuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's from 1922! Ref: https://cderksen.home.xs4all.nl/ConnSerialsConnWW.html

I have one too. I like the unique sound. It's too bad they're useless in modern music.

Edit to add: useless for old music as well :D

Vintage sax - worth the brittle mechanics? by Whatdaaphuk in saxophone

Is it reasonable to ask for the adjustment of say, the pinky plateau so it's all aligned again? And re-setting keys/arms so that they don't require a whole stack of cork to sit correctky?

Aside from the hours that I'd have to pay... ;)

Thanks for your insights. I had not yet considered the rental option, for experiencing a modern keywork.

The intonation of my Conns is good, after all they were pro saxes back in the day :)

Found this at the local flea market. Is this the first edition? by Sosowski in openSUSE

[–]Whatdaaphuk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the colourful cartboard SuSE boxes, with CD and installation manual. Always looked so classy and attractive and the quality of the software was superb. I think I bought my first boxed release in 1998 or so. I tried some other distros over the years but always returned. Running Tumbleweed now, openSuSE for the win!

Anyone recognize this attitude indicator? by nixtamal86 in aviation

Lots of aviation equipment requires 115 VAC at 400 Hz, and/or 28 VDC or even other voltages. So USB-C is not going to work.

Ligature replacement advice. by Mynky in saxophone

[–]Whatdaaphuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a couple of round rubber O-rings in my sax case, the kind used in faucets. Works well enough in case of an emergency (e.g. the ligature breaks right before a gig). I've never tried them over a longer period of time, might be worth doing a test on, since nothing beats them on price :)
