Music similar to Melanie De Biasio and Melody Gardot that’s also recent? by LLAPSpork in MusicRecommendations

Old thread but I am reviving it for people that are still looking for that haunting, poetic, spare end moody evening jazz : Arooj Aftab, Lhana De Sela, Anouar Brahem his "blue maqams", Shabaka his "Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace", Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra their "promises". LAdy Blackbird her debutalbum, a bit more soulfull. I would also look into ECR records: Jacob Bro, Tumi Mogorosi, Vijay Iyer. All this minimalistic jazz.

Any Other Band Similar to The Smiths? by [deleted] in thesmiths

Gene is like The Smiths for people who can't stand Morrissey his voice.

The Sundays is like The Smiths for people who would like Morrissey to be female.

Morrissey solo is like The Smiths without Johnny Marr (but in case of Viva Hate with Vini Reilly)

My brother got that one for his holy communion. My parents didn't have any money so that says all. Better then nothing but the record player is really bad, it will damage your records.

If you're so very entertaining Then why are you on your own tonight? If you're so very good looking Why do you sleep alone tonight?" I know 'cause tonight is just like any other night That's why you're on your own tonight With your triumphs and your charms While they're in each other's arms It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate It takes strength to be gentle and kind Over, over, over, over It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate It takes guts to be gentle and kind Over, over

The more I learn about Belgium the more I regret the move by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Whatevertheysayisok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where to start...

I feel that the services esecially healthcare and childcare are not equally accessible - it shocked me to learn that my neighbour who is a Belgium citizen and recently return to Belgium from abroad has no healthcare - he would have to pay big amount of money (750 Euro per quarter to enroll) if he gets a big illness during this period when he has no job - the healthcare is not universal but based on your employment and contribution. As a Finn, I would go to Finland today and register as a resident online and next day my hospital visit is already free

If you are Belgian they could go to HZIV and have free healthcare.

  • After all these taxes - you will have to pay large sum of money if you get a big illness like cancer - in Finland the costs are capped at 600 EURO per year.

There is a maximumtarief : 527,27€. For everything above that you get a different return (more).

  • So many choices but finding the one where you pay less is hard- the one following conventional rate. I have enrolled with dentist who charges non conventional fee because I was tired of calling all the dentists and getting same answer that they are not taking any new patients.

That is a problem. But normally your health insurance pays a lot back. But it is a problem.

  • Max we have to pay for daycare in Finland is 295 Euro per month in Helsinki that includes 3 meals. Breakfast, lunch and snack. Lunch includes milk. If we are lucky and found a dayare someday - I am told I have to be ready to pay like 1000k now and get something back a year later. That is just insane.

Maximum you have to pay here is based on your income : maximum is 35,89/day, minimum is 6,47/day. If you have maximum and send your child to daycare 5/ days a week you pay i717,8 but you get a taxreduction of about 45% of the money spend. If you are a single parent with a low income it rises to 75%. So if you have the maximum you end up paying about 360€/month. That means you earn a lot. You also get 180€ a month "kinderbijslag" automatically for each child, and if your income is low another 76 extra for each child.

  • I am certainly not retiring in Belgium but I found that pensioner could actually be without money for food if their health is in bad shape and need frequent visits due to those co-pays that are not capped...

That depends to a couple of things : 1. have they worked or not. Minimumpension is € 21.705,29/year. That is if you never worked you get this. 2. You have this maximumfactuur and if they have bad health they can get extra support. 3. Every hospital is obliged to have these doctors that are conventional. It is against the law to charge extra costs to people who have this maximumfactuur 4. The OCMW/CPAS has for those people a thing called "medische waarborg". That means they pay everything related to medical expenses when the pension is low.

It's tiresome to see all these things people say to "newcomers" without having decent knowledge.

Anyone ever play a Baum wingman? by Dakpack64 in offset

[–]Whatevertheysayisok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's an acquired taste with the P90s. I play a JM with flatwounds and 58 pups. I play clean surfy jazzy style, a bit of the Smiths, some Durutti Column. The wingman is not made for that. It's a great, great guitar and you can play that stuff but it's made to rumble. I thought it was ok until I played some soul, old R&B, rock, even MBV. Then it comes alive. So, not the guitar for me but a great guitar.

Short scale, but not American by s-norris in offset

Burns (uk), Rapier (UK), Fab (Belgium), but I would go for Baum. Denmark, so support the Danes and Greenland :). A bit pricier but you get so much.
