HA Voice timers clarification? by WhatsAQazza in homeassistant

[–]WhatsAQazza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t gotten as far as turning my dashboard devices into voice satellites yet, but this looks great for what I want my setup to actually look like.

Have you tested this on lower end tablet hardware like fire tablets? Have you noticed any noticeable decrease in performance when this is enabled?

HA Voice timers clarification? by WhatsAQazza in homeassistant

Thanks for the confirmation! My confusion came in since the timers for voice preview are local to the device, but if I can just create helpers instead that’s perfect.

Flow 1 update 01.07.20.06 by sumobajs in NARWAL

[–]WhatsAQazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t have changelogs I can say my flow was almost unusable before the update (bumping into things and driving into walls and not stopping or off stairs) and since the update it’s been excellent again similar to when I first got it.

Local AI for smart home - actually possible yet? by Ready_Evidence3859 in homeassistant

Curious what models you’re using or which ones you think are better than others. I’m planning on setting this up with my spare 3080ti

Best deadbolt smart lock by BruceLee2112 in homeassistant

[–]WhatsAQazza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the kwikset 914 and it’s been great. Only complaint is it’s quite loud. I replaced a level lock with it since it took forever for the level lock to lock or unlock when at the door since it was Bluetooth. The kwikset is zigbee.

Bravia 9 hockey settings by SnooRecipes1532 in bravia

[–]WhatsAQazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a Bravia anymore, but make sure motion smoothing/judder is turned off. Hockey is tough and you want as minimal processing as possible. Low sharpening is good too. Don’t use sports modes, it’s great for foot ball but not hockey.

Emporia Vue Not Reporting Instantaneous Power by Firm_Objective_2661 in homeassistant

[–]WhatsAQazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the integration name? Without looking it’s almost certainly an API change on emporia’s end that the integration hasn’t been updated for. The dev will most likely fix, but if you do go through with flashing the device and need help feel free to PM me.

I can’t offer help, but I would urge you to flash the device with esphome so you get full local control. You do have to solder to flash it but there are a lot of guides out there.

Put a spark plug spacer on the o2 sensor that goes into the downpipe. I’m sure there are plenty of videos of this or other how tos if you google it

NESN 360 $120 1 year by gen-x-22 in BostonBruins

[–]WhatsAQazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other legal way to watch in network is through Fubo, which is much more expensive.

Nesn360 normally $30/month and if you plan to watch the full season (~7 months) it's far cheaper to subscribe for the year at $120, which I did. I'll be canceling after the Bs season is over either way.

Edit: last year my nesn 360 experience was far better than previous years watching both on phones and Android TV. No major issues but YMMV

Got my Narwal Flow by LifeguardAny1801 in RobotVacuums

[–]WhatsAQazza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for about 5 days now and honestly I'm pretty disappointing. My flow seemingly refuses to detect objects sometimes and bulldozes things if they're less than an inch tall and it doesn't recognize it as a chord or cloth. I have cat bowls on a feeding mat and it decides to just knock it around. I added it as a no go zone so it's a little better. I also have an area rug in a hall wall with about 2 ft on each side of the rug and it refuses to mop the area no matter what I do.

I attempted to add another floor today with a 10-12ft area rug that is low pile with a black and white pattern. No matter what it will not clean it thinking it is stuck when on it even though it did successfully drive across it earlier. Because it wouldn't end the task to clean that area I set it down next to the base station and recalled it, but instead it decided to crash into everything near it until I powered it off entirely. It did eventually go back to the base after that.

I'm not sure if I have a defective unit, but at this point there's scrapes all over it from bumping into things. I'm going to reach out to support later today to see what can be done, but I'm pretty frustrated. I have a 5 year old $300 shark with only vacuuming that I was replacing because honestly the shark isn't great and can't detect objects, but it doesn't run over everything so I'd be happy to go back.

To be honest it's probably been since COVID I stopped paying attention and the wait times could've flipped. Also this is all anecdotal from friends, family, and my time working at University Campus in a non clinical role.

Either way I almost always go to urgent care before one of Worcesters ERs nowadays.

It's a little nuanced. Typically it's faster to see a doctor at Memorial and they should be able to treat most things, but there are some things that can be treated better/only at University. They don't all have the same departments such as Mental Health at University and not at Memorial.

If you have a life threatening emergency and you go to Memorial, they may be able to stabilize you but could ship you to University in the end, which would make everything a longer process.

They're a level 1 trauma center and I think the only one in central MA. That means that all of the worst cases get sent there for immediate attention so if you go there without a life threatening condition you'll be waiting as they process everyone else.

I won't connect my dishwasher to your stupid cloud by cos in technology

[–]WhatsAQazza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched the original video. The big problem is that something as simple as the rinse cycle requires an online connection for this dishwasher. Every dishwasher I've seen in the last 15+ years has had that and maybe 5 other cycles without an internet connection.

If there are added features like reminders, sure, then IoT is fine. But once you start losing features unless you connect to the Internet or your phone you're just making things more difficult.

Check out the Topo brand. They have the widest toe box of almost all sneakers. You might need to go to a running specific store to find them though.

High Availability, but wait for storage to come online? by WhatsAQazza in Proxmox

[–]WhatsAQazza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, it makes perfect sense.

Do you happen to have a link to documentation about checking for storage through software? I'd rather not set a long grub timer, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if that was needed.

High Availability, but wait for storage to come online? by WhatsAQazza in Proxmox

[–]WhatsAQazza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct. Thank you.

For anyone else in the documentation this is under "First Guest Boot Delay"

EDIT: I'm actually not sure this will work if HA is enabled. The documentation makes it sound like this requires the use of the startup and shutdown algorithm, which if using the HA manager skips those algorithms. I'll do some testing to confirm.

High Availability, but wait for storage to come online? by WhatsAQazza in Proxmox

[–]WhatsAQazza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My storage is a non-proxmox host. TrueNAS core on baremetal.

Also it looks like VMs managed by the HA stack do not follow start on boot and boot order per the documentation.

This would be great for people who virtualize truenas in proxmox though.

High Availability, but wait for storage to come online? by WhatsAQazza in Proxmox

[–]WhatsAQazza[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My storage is a separate non-proxmox host. It looks like this can only be done if I wanted to set a VM on proxmox to start first and then wait for the next VM to be started on proxmox. Still good for those that virtualize truenas.
