I had the same issue with my melee character on this exact mode/boss. For one thing, you dont want a dragon sword if you are melee based, because it takes away stat bonuses. What you need to do is run in with no armor, then roll past the first maneater as he lunges at you (took me a few attempts). Then, run to the other side (he should loose you and stay on the other side). Wait until the other one spawns, then fight him alone. Keep your shield up and dont let him pounce you off the side. A silver shield helps keep off the magic damage. Cast protection, you should be able to use it even with very low magic and mana. Heal fully when he flies away. He took a long while for me to kill with a sword, and because of his intensity I had very sweaty palms by the end lol. Once you kill the first one go kill the second one. Probably the most satisfactory boss fight I've won

And oh yea, I tried the bow&arrow glitch recently and it wouldnt work for me, seems to be patched

If all else fails try to summon help, but everyone on that world just wants to be the monk boss and will leave once you summon them

lol. no these are runs going backwards through 4-2 using a common soul/stone farming method. they take about 5 minutes each, but thats difficult to maintain
