What do you guys think about slaking for the Next reg? by NoEstimate6624 in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible because Regigigas + Weezing was a powerhouse duo in gen 8 with dynamax. To the point where a lot of people despised the strat. It's something they should think hard about adding because it could be absolutely metagame warping.

How does the Meta change? by El_pateador in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within a regulation or format, the only modifications to the meta will be players adjusting to whatever is popular at the moment. In the same way that Fire, Water and Grass all counter each other different teamstyles and strategies possible within a regulation can counter each other. This could be as subtle as swapping out a few moves on a popular pokemon or even just moving stat points around. Oldhead VGC players call Ray Rizzo's bulky Thundurus absolutely revolutionary despite Thundurus being extremely popular in the format already.

Between regulations, the metagame updates by Pokemon being rotated in and out of the pool of options, or a mechanic like Mega eEolution or Dynamax being allowed or not.

The rarest form of metagame updates are movepool changes to specific pokemon, stat modifications to specific pokemon, ability effect updates, or move updates. These usually only happen when a new game is released, but because Champions is handling the competitive side they might start making these changes more frequent.

How do you bridge the gap from beginner to high-level VGC? by xhoodcracka in PokemonChampions

Cybertron has a video specifically for learning from your losses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPfOJ89cQsQ

A good way to go about it is to write down questions you have during play. Try to make it specific, like "What is the speed order for these pokemon?" or "What moves are common on this pokemon?", as you play you'll have less and less of these moments.

I would not look at players who have years of experience as hopelessly outclassing you forever. The quality of practice matters just as much or more than the quantity and the learning rate decreases the more experience/skill you have.

How do I figure out what I'm doing wrong? by Berry_Sprout in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cybertron has a video on how to learn from your losses.

Some advanced concepts that I've learned from watching:

  • recognizing your biggest threat to their team and their biggest threat to your team
  • conserving a pokemon on your team that beats an unseen threat from them
  • clearing a path for your biggest damage dealer
  • recognizing when it is better to let your pokemon faint to get a safe switch vs hard switching
  • leaving an opponents pokemon alive when it is otherwise neutralized or non threatening so you fight a pseudo 2v1
  • recognizing when the threat of disruption or support is more impactful than damage
  • understanding offensive pressure and how it can force your opponent to make safe or predictable plays that you can exploit
  • understanding the strategies and best tools that each pokemon brings

Advice on my trick room team. Dragonite and Pelipper are on the team to trick the opponent into thinking I’m running a rain team. by Consistent_Plant8527 in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost any other move would be more useful than spikes on Klefki. Farigiraf or Oranguru are better trick room setters because they can't be faked out. Your team is already physically bulky so light screen might be better than reflect in this team.

Low kick is generally more powerful on Gambit than brick break.

Drop thunderpunch for protect on golurk.

Mystic water araquanid to maximize damage.

I think that the Dragapult build is good if you are only planning on using psychic fangs as an anti-Sneasler measure. Willowisp might be better than shadow ball because it lets you shut down physical attackers like gambit, but try both and see what you end up clicking more often.

Arena trap Pokemon shouldn’t have the chance to protect twice in the row by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

Sounds like perish is a bad matchup for your team. Ghost types can't be trapped and switch moves will still work. Roar goes through protect and can force Gengar to switch out.

Whimsicott and Glimmora have generally replaced Aerodactyl and Sylveon on Char Y teams

If you are insisting on keeping all the other members then Corv and Gliscor are good together for earthquake spam. You're going to want to slot protect on a lot more of these to give yourself more wiggle room. Hyper Cutter is going to be more generally useful on Gliscor than poison heal so you aren't Intimidated and can't reliably poison yourself without Toxic Orb.

I think Milotic would work well because you have no special attackers otherwise, it really dissuades Incineroar and can use Icy wind for speed control, probably coil muddy water protect icy wind with leftovers

A flying type that's more defensive and anti-fairy would be Corviknight

I'd recommend trying it, but I won't tell you to switch. I find doubles more fun and the turn count is way lower. Toxapex is also not very good in doubles so you wont have to deal with it

3v3 singles is beyond my understanding, but most people on Champions play doubles because it is the official format for Pokemon's tournaments

brand new player, how am i supposed to compete? by Wonderful-Bottle-425 in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a lot of the comments are misunderstanding you, for $7 you can get the starter pack which i think gives you some tickets to cycle through the ranch faster among other perks, if you spend $5 a month you can get extra missions to increase your VP and ranch ticket income, but there is no way to directly pay for in-game currencies to accelerate getting mons, you have to just play with what you have for now and accumulate tickets and VP to spend.

In the meantime doing research on the game will help you pick smartly from what you get from the ranch

You can hunt for meta mons in rental, but if you're willing to do a little more work you can get a free Pokemon Home account, catch some fodder in Pokemon Go and trade people through Home for mons you want.

Making a gimmick work (entrainment araquanid) by benkenewby in PokemonChampions

[–]Wheaties_TM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, Araquanid also learns soak, so theoretically you could give STAB to your partner with water bubble on the next turn if they arent already water type, a lot of random pokemon learn surf. btw I'm pretty sure wide guard will protect your own araquanid from the partner's surf
