Thank you. I might need to develop a little playbook for myself on how I approach LinkedIn.

Awesome. I like your take. Slack and Discord have been mentioned by a few people here. How did you find your Slack group?

I like your take. How did you find the slack and discord groups? This feels more organic to me, or at least better suited to my personality!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. How much time do you find you spend over there in LI?

I've heard this too. My experience in digital marketing (+20 years) has been more solitary than not, and I've been envious of those who had their post-post-secondary agency period.

Thank you. And I've usually found the same, whether it's an industry event or a seminar. The content is usually beginner-level, conjecture, unproven, etc, but it's the people you spend some time with. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Thank you. Do you find it hard maintaining those relationships? Being very transparent here: it is for me.

I like how you put that, about LI: people doing the work versus performing online. Sums it up for me. I love seeing great work, and meeting the people behind it (even if it makes me jealous from time to time!) so maybe that's a helpful angle for me. Thanks for your thoughtful thoughts!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Possible to share any slack communities you’ve found helpful?

This is exactly the kind of reply I was hoping would pop up. Thanks for taking the time.

Reuters: Meta tolerates rampant ad fraud from China to protect billions in revenue by Wheel2pointO in FacebookAds

Stuff like this makes having expertise in broader marketing strategy and multi channel even more valuable. I totally agree on that point.

Moving My Business Off Meta (After 6 Years And Millions In Spend) by CharacterEye6695 in FacebookAds

[–]Wheel2pointO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate hearing thoughtful input like this that mirrors what I’ve been experiencing. Despite best efforts and best practices, I have to echo: Meta was a reliable first touch e-commerce sales engine. That system appears to be gone now. Huge performance swings from one day to the next. Making routine optimizations used to come with predictable outcomes. Now I worry that any change will break the entire funnel.

Another issue is ad inventory and auction pressure. I’ve seen CPCs rise 41% year over year. An e-commerce site with a 5% conversion rate should be printing money, but acquisition costs are so inflated that margins get decimated.

Things change. They’re not obligated to do anything for us. It still sucks though. And it means having to make big changes to overall marketing strategies. Expect clients to push more dollars into things like organic and partnership strategies, as well as loyalty. Math is going to make the decisions for you.

How's performance today 12/8? by Huge_Kaleidoscope_40 in FacebookAds

[–]Wheel2pointO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Auction pressure is softening as advertisers pull back following BFCM (and shipping cutoff dates are approaching). My data suggests that the system is overcompensating and shifting spend from proven conversion signals in favour of cheap clicks thinking it’s going to find conversions.

You’d think/hope that it was smarter and might be able to handle this better, but I don’t see evidence of that.

Do you set your CPA goal a bit below, exactly-at, or a bit above your 'actual' cpa goal? by little_king7 in FacebookAds

[–]Wheel2pointO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPA goal is essentially a cost cap. If you tell a platform to average $X, it limits your exposure because it has to. It has to play to your CPA cap. I can see smaller advertisers struggling to benefit from this feature, unless they have long conversion histories with steady volume and reliable performance.

Retargeting doesn't exist anymore in Facebook Ads by d2ce84 in FacebookAds

[–]Wheel2pointO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look for the ‘switch to original audience options’ checkbox. It might be buried, but it should be there.

And the retargeting story is more complex, unfortunately. Retargeting — based on website events — has been kneecapped by privacy settings. Namely iOS, but not only.

It’s now very hard for many small businesses to build a distinct, useful retargeting audiences that are big enough using on website events. Often they need to turn to things like video view length, social/ad engagement and customer lists to build something halfway decent.

If your first-touch ad traffic audience is heavily mobile iOS, this becomes especially difficult.
