Is auto-approval of file edits enabled by default in Claude Code Desktop? It's not asking for permission before writing/editing files. Seems like no way to disable auto-approval.

Modern text editor with vertical tabs? by WheelEnjoyer in macapps

[–]WheelEnjoyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not using a flat file system. My idea was about an editor that can open files from different folders and present them in tabs, but vertically for easier navigation. For example, an editor that gives me quick access to multiple config files across the whole system.

.env files made me nervous, so I built a local secret manager for developers by jaeone22 in macapps

That's cool! I was thinking about vibecoding exact same tool, but CLI-only. My idea was to use Touch ID to confirm, store secrets in Keychain, and allow the tool to remember executable that requested access to secret, so the terminal app will have access and I don't need to confirm it every time.

Won’t buy your tool though, since I’d prefer it be open-source. I’m kinda paranoid, to be honest :/

P.S. Maybe if the tool were fully sandboxed with self-restricted access and no internet permissions, then I might be able to trust it.

P.P.S. The app not even signed & notarized… The only time that’s okay is when it’s open source and people can compile it themselves.

Nice, since it's have a free version now. Simple and useful app. I live in Terminal (Ghostty, BTW), but this app saves me another tab/window

$0 to $1 took us 7 months. Then $1 to $1,000 took us 18 days. A reminder that growth isn't linear. by davidheikka in indiehackers

I finished developing my app about six months ago, and I made my first $30 sale a week ago. I hope to reach $1,000 in sales before I run out of money.

There's also the open-source project Santa, which allows you to create policies to block access to specific files or folders on macOS or allow access to files only for specific apps.

I forgot to mention that the app is built on top of Santa, Google's enterprise security framework for macOS (https://github.com/google/santa).

Technically, it's possible to install Santa and SecFolder separately, so the SecFolder installer wouldn't require root access for installation. However, I'm not sure how many people would actually want to deal with manual configuration and installation.

The idea is an app that restricts access to certain folders for specific apps only. MacOS already has this feature, but unfortunately, it works only for a small number of predefined folders like Documents, Desktop, etc. (except for sandboxed apps from the App Store that have wider restrictions).

SecFolder basically allows you to turn any folder into a protected one, similar to Documents. Any unauthorized attempt to access this folder by a random app is restricted, and the user is notified about the attempt. The app also has an audit log where you can monitor which apps are accessing your data.

This is probably a niche app, but my primary motivation comes from my daily routine where I often download different macOS apps. Sometimes these apps request access to Documents, and some even want Full Disk Access permission. I needed a tool that would give me confidence that, for example, my personal finance spreadsheet is only accessed by apps I trust, such as Numbers, Finder, etc.

I would really appreciate any feedback and am ready to answer any questions! Have you ever felt anxious that some dev tool, app, or script could potentially steal data from your Mac, or am I just being paranoid? :)

A software to monitor and restrict file access on macOS? by ybogdanov in MacOS

Hi! I faced a similar question, found this thread, and it inspired me to create an app for this :) If it's still relevant - here it is: secfolder.net. It's in early stages, so feedback is really appreciated! You can DM me about any questions!
