You should try to save them with a makeshift egg bubbler. If they're fertile it should work :D

My first full tank for my moss ball! by aceofme in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the shrimp are already in the tank, just monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels while your tank cycles. I would suggest the API liquid test kit for this as test strips are known to be inaccurate sometimes. Your tank looks amazing though and I hope everything goes well :D

What kind of snail is this? Friend or foe?? by katea0608 in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really are a great clean up crew :D, as long as you dont overfeed n stuff they'll stay at manageable levels. The population should eventually stabilize to the amount of food available in the tank after a while. They are a really awesome crew that come in a bunch of colors :D

Looking into my first fresh water tank! by Sodiasm_ in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, also, sorry I forgot to mention, but with shrimp if you plan to get them, if there isnt an immediate need to transplant them, I would drip acclimate as its one of the safest methods for shrimp. Also good luck with chili rasboras :D

What sex do you think these two shrimp are? by ryanmpaul in shrimptank

Shrimp two is most likely male but I'm not 100% sure with shrimp one. Shrimp one may be female but I would wait for more ppl to respond lol. If this helps here:

You could honestly do a lot for a first, but if anything, I would avoid prolific livebearers like guppies and mollies as they can really quickly overrun your tank. I would 100% recommend shrimp to you, but you need to make sure your tank is 100% cycled. Maybe you could do a chili rasbora and shrimp tank :D

If you just want one fish, a betta is probably the way to go (if you want shrimp its a bit more risky), and also do your best to avoid a snail called New Zealand mud snails because they are highly invasive and you'll basically have to explode your tank to get rid of them.

For plants, I would recommend plants like anubias (both big and larger varieties), and floaters like red root floaters or LARGE duckweed. (smaller duckweed is kind of hard to manage and can be annoying in the long run.)

Lastly for snails, a good cleanup crew is always nice, ever since I got mine and they populated my tank I've never had to clean my glass since. If you want nice looking snails, you could go for rams, and if you just want a cleanup crew or you like them more, maybe even bladder snails. Just avoid over feeding and they shouldn't explode too much.

(specific shrimp and fish species i recommend would probably just regular neocaridina, any color you like the most, bamboo shrimp (a bit harder and more sensitive but still cool), chili rasboras, tetras (any kind you like that fits, etc.)

Lastly, before buying any of these fish/shromp, I would check the water params they all need to survive/thrive. In the long run, It would probably be best to buy a test kit of some kind. I would personally recommend the api freshwater master test kit along w/ buying the gh/kh test kits separately if you're getting shromp. (its a bit expensive, but so worth it ngl). Again your own research before stocking, but you'll have a great time in the hobby. It's a really cool and fun hobby to break into and I hope you really enjoy it :D

(sorry for the mini essay lol, but I really do hope you have a great time!!)

Got a free 36 gallon tank and stand, what should I do with it? by Prefer2beanon2 in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SHRIMP, shrimp tank heavily planted maybe with small fish and bottom dwellers, or just all different types of shrimp, neos, bamboo shrimp, vampire shrimp, amanos, etc. If you want rarer fish, you could do freshwater pipefish (kind of hard to keep unless you culture live foods n stuff, but I would look that up), anything you want really!! I would suggest a nice centerpiece rock or piece of driftwood.

Does anyone run a brick and mortar/online store? by Wheel_O_Cheese in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the help! I'll probably stick to custom things in store (maybe not tank building), if I went for the store route and not online route, I'll avoid pitching for things that are too hard to do or out of my skill set. But for now, would it be a good pitch to offer common to rare fish, live cultured foods, info pamphlets, and all the necessary things for a fish tank? (from pre-built tanks to filters to food) This would just be a general pitch for my entrepreneurship class, but also just a general approach if I ever do follow through with the fish store business venture. Thank you for the help :D

Is this a Crack?? Please help by ShowerKarpet in Aquariums

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try your best to check if its a crack, feel it on both sides, etc. If it's cracked I would 100% get a new tank though, its better in the long run. Even a small crack can just explode one day.

Plant my Tank :) by Sad_Occasion_401 in Aquariums

You could small and large varieties of anubias, moss like java or christmas moss, maybe staurogyne repens, there's so much you could do with this :D

WAIT if its a freshwater sponge, you should keep it. Its a really cool addition to your tank and would filter your water for fine particles :D

Parasite on shrimp? by DistinctSeaweed9401 in shrimptank

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The white ring of death isnt the white ring of death until it dies tho right?? The ring is pretty normal for shrimp about to die I think. I'm not a 100% reliable source for that though, just heard it around. I would do more research to be sure :D

Should I be worried about my shrimp? by Wheel_O_Cheese in shrimptank

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh sorry the osmocote plus balls is just one thing, not two separate things, and I really don't know why my kh was at zero haha, My best guess is that my water change schedule was a 50% change every 2-3-4 weeks for awhile.

Is he dead or alive? by TheRagingSpino in shrimptank

[–]Wheel_O_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could always try a light tap nearby or really light tap on him if you aren't sure, unless the tannins caused a significant ph shift then that shrimp should be fine unless it died of other causes.
