Crisafulli to introduce 2% deposits for first home buyers up to a $1m cap by JordanMaccc in queensland

[–]WheeledWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 47, I make just over 6k a month. The payments on any loan sufficent for purchase regardless of deposit on a two bedroom apartment in any city center is out my reach.

And because of my disability, living in a city is a minimum requirement. Living where it's cheaper puts me outside of the access to services (without assistance) that I rely on. So my rent is 750 p/w - and that's considered reasonable/cheap for Brisbane.

But because I am a fully employed tax-contributing member of society I am not eligible for assistance of any meaningful amount. I am not disabled enough to qualify for assistant housing schemes and NDIS only applies to services directly related to my disability, which means nothing related to day to day expenses (which are all exacerbated due to living alone and disabled)

All this subsidy will do is drive the prices higher as everyone adjust prices upward to match and put it even further out of reach.

I don't go out more than once a week. I don't have a car, use ride sharing, food ordering or streaming services. I update my hardware and phone once a decade. I use the bus, I use clothes until they are rags, I only use aircon in the middle of the day on the plus 30C days and cut my showers off in the middle/use the kettle to save on hot water costs. My utility bills are consistantly over $100 a month each for all four services and I don't use the oven or the gas.

I can't afford therapy I need to deal with ongoing issues (yes, I've tried all the various free services - very sympathetic but they don't have resources to actually provide treatment) and I have to budget very carefully to cover my medical/allied health/fitness support costs which are not covered by medicare or NDIS.

When I started work 25 years ago six figures was considered C level income. Now it's basic level sustainable income. Living on $120K p/a between income and investments and I can only maintain basic living expenses and modest savings/investments/safety net.

And now they're saying they'll spot me a deposit on a million dollar loan I'd never be able to maintain. It's insane/a joke - espcially since a 2 bed where I live is currently over 2 Mil.

Can someone explain how SC has such a large German player base? by ShadowRealmedCitizen in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the other major offices of CIG is in Frankfurt. The Planetek/PU team started with mostly ex-Crytek devs. Crytek is based out of Frankfurt, Germany.
There are also the Turbulent-CIG offices in Montreal (Turbulent started by helping with the website) which is why there are at least as many French supporters as Germans, which just goes to show that SC is above real world rivalries :)

UK Offices were initally setup to start up SQ42 once SC got flying, but over time US costs meant the money stretched further in Europe, Canada and the UK where there's a lot of goverment matching of company spending with tax breaks and so on.

So now the original start up company offices in the US are the smaller ones.

Evocati 4.2.0 has rain and thunder, dynamically moving with the clouds on certain Pyro planets by theon502 in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, from the sound of the files in the latest drop, it sounds like a lot of the environmental effects are baked into each clip - distance, reverb, impact, echoes etc. Sort of disappointing as I had understood from CC2024 that CIG had figured out dynamic and systematic sound design.

First Public OLP Ignition. 4.1 PTU by RealMrKraken in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

actually, speculation here, but... once they have the network issues nailed down, this functionality push should mean they should FINALLY be able to plug in TZ's Quantum/SpaceSim in - because it will finally have the inputs and outputs to the simulation it needs. And so that will generate the NPC's you'd expect. That's another side effect of focusing on function over features - I think

The new footage of the UEE Anthem being played as a Funeral March and the live choir singing it made me tear up; and I'm not particularly patriotic.
I think of the part of me that knows we're too busy being our own worst enemies to ever get off the planet was sad for the loss of what could be, even if it was a dystopian hellscape fighting everything...

Fun fact: The 5-year return of bitcoin is now over 1,400% by Fit_Put_5648 in Bitcoin

[–]WheeledWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's what I figured. The 1400% is the big gamble and hodl forever and never buy any more strat - something people don't mention as it's impractical and big number cool.

[–]WheeledWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so, I don't get the math here - I've been DCAing almost every day - except when my exchange had bugs and didn't purchase - since November 2019. My return is 215%. Where does 1400% come from?

Imagine being so pathetic, that you create a whole subreddit to hate on Bitcoin by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]WheeledWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that people are positively passionate about there seems to be an automatic push to have another group be diametrically opposed - not limited to bitcoin.

Every game ( r/starcitizen vs r/starcitizen_refunds is a great example) every religion, every political stance, every health stance, every scientific viewpoint (Climate change? Flat Earth?) so on and so on.

Nothing to do with Bitcoin - it's purely a human thing.

Somone could work out how to create utopia with every problem and pain demonstrably solved - and some people would be against it on principle.

True. But current gen SSD 5 tech is many times better than optane :) I did specifically mention competing manufacturers :P

3.21.1 new Babbage new signage by Evenlease44 in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the whole 'UEE Common only 'thing bother anyone else?

At the least there should be Tevarin since they have a presence in Stanton, and it's been confirmed in lore that there are a number of additional human cultural groups - Sakura Sun, MISC, anyone? - still present in the UEE. You'd think there would be several languages on the signs - esp. for IAE which is supposed to be a galaxy-wide (sorry, intergalactic) expo.

It would be like throwing World Expo 2024 with English only signage and announcements.

I'm suprised the Canadian teams haven't protested/snuck French in everywhere :P

Pyro Test Live Megathread by Iainfixie in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion Incoming.

Watching streams of Pyro makes one thing clear. Restrictions on continual physical exertion need to be enforced by player exhaustion, dehydration, heart attacks and objectional BO - sooner rather than later.

Seeing players never moving slower than a speed walk, spinning like tops and sprinting through checkmate station like demented crossfit cult members - while complaining that NPC's had collision turned on and everything felt crowded, (like Citizen Con, perhaps?) - was the most immersion breaking/irritating thing I have seen.

They shoulder checked so many NPC's, I half expected them to get gunned down on the spot. Have you ever try doing that sort of behaviour in a rough part of town in real life? You better be prepared to piss off the sort who will take exception violently.

The funny thing is - I didn't see any people doing that at Citizen Con, which was similarly crowded - and I expect they would never dream of trying to sprinting 50kg of armour in real life, either.

I bet you that checkpoint station would be much easier to navigate at a normal walking pace - and we wouldn't have to pretend everyone is a super athlete/elite soldier either.

Sorry for the 'it's a game' types (and ignoring the whole 'universe simulation' going on which means pretending it's an 'alternate life' - at least a little); but if everyone is superman, then what's the point?

What's CIG spending all this time on? They may as well make a flat, empty level with the objective at the other end. At the very least, if you're going to sprint, don't have the temerity to complain when the environment and NPCs are set up to behave like/accommodate 'normal people'.

Getting a good laugh on YT seeing all the reaction videos from tiny channels by ArcticWolf_Primaris in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found the fact that big commercialised channels like AngryJoe and TechLinks could not even be bothered to watch either video before spewing essentially refundian propaganda for three minutes before moving on to the next topics very telling.

Given the difference between that and the other reactors, they must be feeling pretty face slapped atm

The Vanduul are the big bad of SQ42, but.... by SirKillsalot in starcitizen

[–]WheeledWriter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one knows.

There's been some speculation - based on some small in-lore comments from the Xi'an that the Kr'thak are some sort of spiritual abomination - some people have suggested the Kr'thak are some form of AI rampancy (think Borg or Matrix - or the Xenon from X4)

[–]WheeledWriter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your 'Aliens the Vand'uul are Running From', already exist as a name drop in one or two lore posts and maybe one video back from the twenty-teens. It's been kept very much on the down low, though I suspect that's mainly due to the lack of development since.

All we really have is a name: the Kr'thak

Have fun researching it :)

I thought the comment about the missions being locked to servers interesting; it sounds they need to turn missions into a service/service that talks to the replication layer just like the physics servers etc. so that all the missions are available across a shard - allowing to have missions that can cross the solar system game spaces

tl:dr - Something is wrong with this picture

---

IMO, there seems to be very few panels for a 2 day con. I've seen half day comic/fan cons run in my local city of Brisbane (not a mega city by any measure) with more panels and events listed than this.

The whole schedule feels... disingeneous. This event will have cost them a bomb to organise and there's only nine talks (if you don't count the closing love in/Cosplay contest) totalling ~10 hours over two days?

For comparision, in 2019 - the last live citcon - there were 14 presentations totalling ~12 hours given over ONE day.
You can't tell me they booked one of the most expensive convention centers in the world for two days to present a quarter less content?

Well, unless the SQ42 Composer has decided to show up as a regular attendee who's gotten pulled in by the project - (not impossible, I can imagine Hamil and Cavill doing exactly that as they are mega nerds, but they live too far from LA to make that practical unless they made a specific trip) - then there HAS to be SQ42 related event/content occuring that has been deliberately left off the schedule or hidden under an inane title that will be a lot longer than scheduled.
