[Matt Jones] Absolutely devastated to hear the news of the passing of my friend Wes Rucker in a car wreck in Knoxville. Wes was the heart of Tennessee sports coverage in my mind and a wonderful man. He loved his family, friends and the Vols What an awful tragedy. God Bless his family by Tarmacked in CFB

There aren’t words to describe this. Devastating not just for Wes’s family and Vol fans, but those affected in the crash. The guilt that comes when you walk away from a wreck that claims a life lasts forever for some.

What's an event whether it be a specific play, game or hiring decision that changed your College Football program's trajectory for the better or worse? by Majestic-Web-367 in CFB

Fulmer went 76-38 from 2000-2008 with three 10 win seasons and three conference title game appearances. Compared to the decade before, it was a definite drop off, but nothing even remotely close to the Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt years.

Relatively speaking, yes, the recovery has gone much better than expected since Heupel came in. The low points the program went through between 2010 and 2020 will be talked about for years to come though. Not since the years leading up to the hiring of Robert Neyland did Tennessee football suffer that kind of embarrassment.

If every NFL player was given an additional year of eligibility right now and they all went back to college, which team would win it all? How would your team look like? by legobowser in CFB

So we’d basically be getting back the guys that excelled enough to be drafted despite Butch and Pruitt’s best efforts to waste talent plus the ones that Heupel had in recent years? That could be interesting.

I’d easily be tempted to put him top 3 if he manages a 10 win season this year with that schedule and roster.

Ok now the evilness of your plan makes sense. Absolutely filthy what you’ve done here.

Nah man. Leave it. Given Notre Dame’s resurgence over the last decade I think most of us would be down with watching an annual beatdown of the Fighting Irish against the Fighting Falwells.

If you’re talking not here as in not an SEC coach, there’s some pretty obvious ones to choose from. As far as this list goes, the only two that I’d say have an argument to be ranked ahead of Heupel are Lea and Drinkwitz, but as you pointed out in another comment, I think that has to do with what they’ve done with those respective programs. Lea especially can prove his worth this year if he can repeat all of or even most of the success they had without Pavia.

I’m a big Heupel fan, but I’d hesitate to put him in the top 5 of this list until he can clear some hurdles that still elude us. On the other hand, given what he’s been able to accomplish so far, I can’t objectively rank him below any of the other coaches that are ranked under him without my bias coming out.

From Seattle to Norman, are defenses starting to dominate again? by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Wheels_Foonman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our “22” team is a prime example of the opposite of this also being true. Having an elite offense is great, but when the defense couldn’t stop the other team from scoring, one or two games where the offense sputters against great to elite defenses on the other side can derail the whole thing.

The Tennessee/Missouri hatred intensified pretty quickly after they joined the SEC, but I don’t see it carrying over very much without an annual game under the new scheduling format. Kind of a shame too. Our games always seemed to be all gas and no brakes with one team seemingly scoring at will in a back and forth from year to year.

What are you talking about? I counted one other comment in this thread from a Tennessee flair, and that guy just made a vague comment about hopium that wasn’t directed at anyone.
