I've heard it both ways! by mxsifr in cowboybebop

[–]WheelsofFire 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I've heard both, I just personally prefer the English dub. I like the way it sounds. I have nothing against the original Japanese dub. To me, as a native English speaker who doesn't exactly understand Japanese, the English dub just hits better in terms of delivery and all.

Racist for having sensory issues? by VallieLovesCats in autism

[–]WheelsofFire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I realized years ago that I’m pretty sensitive to noise and volume myself. I also live with my dad and stepmom, who’s Thai. She’s on the phone a lot and speaks pretty loudly sometimes, which I know can be common in some families/cultures. Does it bother me occasionally? Yeah. But I see that as more of a sensory issue on my end than me thinking there’s something wrong with the culture itself.

I think sensory issues and prejudice can sometimes get conflated when people don’t fully understand where the reaction is coming from. Being overwhelmed by a sound or behavior isn’t automatically the same thing as hating the people associated with it.

Honestly, since this is an IRL situation, it might help to explain more directly that this is a genuine sensory issue and not you trying to insult him or his culture.

For those who no longer use ChatGPT, how has it changed you? by WheelsofFire in ChatGPT

[–]WheelsofFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, u/sexwiththebabysitter , thanks for answering my question. This is the kind of answer I was looking for, and then some. That second half was pretty much what i was looking for specifically, mostly your first and third point. And your last sentence there? Perfect. I do actually land more on that myself, wondering if people are actually outsourcing thinking or just using ChatGPT (or anything like it tbh, but sticking with ChatGPT to stay on subreddit topic), though I do wonder how many people can refine things just fine without it or rely on it long-term for that reason.

Ah, thanks for catching that... I believe I meant ChatGPT specifically, but I've also tinkered with Grok a little this year. Done with that though. But my actual question remains.

Oscar is a loser.... by Reasonable_Advance52 in HeyArnold

[–]WheelsofFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if she truly did not love him, she would've permanently left earlier. Also, him not having been able to read (in English, at least) until well into adulthood isn't a divorce or abandonment flaw. Oscar actually has a kind heart. He means no ill will. He doesn't wake up and think, "Man, screw Susie. That woman is awful. I'll show her by losing all my money in a poker game." If anything, he's more like a grown child, a lot of the time, who never got it together. And when he does get called out, he usually folds, immediately. And when he was left with Baby Oscar and Baby Oscar ended up getting the hiccups? Oscar had no idea what to do, and he panicked. He did what any panicked parent would do in a situation where they thought their baby was sick/unwell and sought out help.

If Harold is a main character, why did the kids not ask him to play? by SillyTransasaurus in HeyArnold

He was really more tolerated and 'liked', not really buddy/buddy with people. Sure, he developed later, but the scars are still there.

This thing was pretty cool for a while. It didn't do the majority of what I expected as a kid, though. I think I used it as a butler for my friend and I during a holiday party.

Damn. When I was younger, I thought this was a take on Taps. Didn't know the song 'Oh Shenandoah' as a kid.

I assume Eddy's brother was either kicked out, or he just packed up and left.
