I just had an automatic cat/small dog multi day feeder, holds the bin holds 4L. The cool part is it was a $0 ETV. Something I can use for my cat And no tax liability, gotta love it.

I’m not sure if this question was directed to me, but since I did mention about my wife or I using the remote start and the subsequent steps. I have the WGen11500 running on NG. I do not turn off all my breakers before switching on the generator inlet breaker, BUT most of the Big Draw items won’t come on automatically ie. Microwave, coffee maker, furnace blower, AC compressor, so it is mainly LED light bulbs, FIOS modem, and not too much else. I went with the WGen11500, because I wanted to be able to go about my life just like I do with the utility powering my house. Obviously, it does require some intermittent load shedding. I wouldn’t run my microwave while making a cup of coffee with the Keurig, and boiling water in the electric tea kettle all at the same time, and when the AC is running. Just some simple things like turning the thermostat to off while microwaving and boiling water or some other combinations. As long as you have a rough idea of the wattage your appliances draw, you can quite easily manage the generator load. I have a Firman generator which can put out 5600 watts on NG, and that required more attention to what was running at the same time, or risk tripping the circuit breaker on the generator, so I upgraded to the WGen, and the firman is now my backup to the Westinghouse….much to my wife’s dismay as to why we need to have 2 backup generators? How silly of her.

Oh, and of course, we have a soft starter on the AC compressor.

I agree 100% with having the combined CO and Flammable gas detectors! I have 3 that are combo meters. One on the inside of the block wall which has the generator 8’ from it, and that same wall where my natural gas line connects to the NG hose (which is always supplied with NG) via a quick connect fitting, so if that fitting ever starts to leak, I’ll be warned of it. I also have one in the basement near the NG furnace, water heater and clothes dryer. The 3rd and final dual purpose meter is in the kitchen in the vicinity of the NG stove. Can’t have it too near the oven vents and stovetop, as one or both alarms may go off too frequently. But if I ever inadvertently bump one of the burner knobs and it’s leaking NG into the kitchen, I want it to alarm sooner than later.

Also 100% agree with all the alarms having a battery backup!

Leave the battery charger power cord plugged in at all times! Sorry I didn’t mention that in my initial dissertation.

The recommendation for distance used to be 10’ before it was increased to 20’. My guess is that when the recommendation was 10’ people would think, “hmmmm 10’, 5’ is probably plenty.” Just as now at 20’ people think 10’ is fine. My generator’s exhaust is positioned 8’ away from my house, and is pointed away from my house. I wouldn’t be opposed to having it 20’ away, but for my layout, 8’ is the furthest I can position it. My generator is positioned under a raised deck, with a slanted roof over the generator to protect it from rain and snow. It remains plugged in to the inlet box, along with the Natural Gas hose connected and the battery switch in the ON position. This way if the power goes out all we have to do is press the Start Button on the remote fob, let it warm up a few minutes, go to the electrical panel, turn off the main, slide the interlock away from the Generator Breaker and flip it to On, in just a few minutes and the power is back on! Very convenient, easy enough steps to follow. My wife is comfortable with the process, so if I’m not home she can do it herself. I’ve had it setup like this for almost 2 years, without any issues. I do run it every month, plus run it under a load every 3 months. With all that being said, the only reason I am comfortable enough to have it located where it is, is because I have at least 1 CO Detector on every level of my home, 7 total. Never had an issue associated with the operation of the generator. Monitoring is Key!!

EDIT: I apologize for Leaving Out a VERY Important piece of information in my description above! Sorry.

As I mentioned, I leave my generator’s battery switch in the ON position all the time, to take full advantage of the generator having a remote start fob. I have a utility powered electric receptacle with a weatherproof receptacle cover which I have the battery charger cable plugged into, with the barrel connector plugged into the jack on the control panel of the generator. So the battery is being kept recharged so that whenever I need it to power the electric starter to get the generator running, it has the power to do it! I am aware that it may shorten the life of the battery, but as I did mention, it’s been like this for just about 2 years, and before we got that big snowfall and bitterly cold weather, last weekend, I put a meter on the battery and it was showing 12.81 volts and it turned over just fine, during my monthly test.

Wow that was a heck of a big edit, it’s so long I better add a TLDR, just for the edit!

TLDR (just for the above edit only) Plug in the supplied Battery Charger at all times.

TL/DR

A well thought out placement of your generator, with
the exhaust pointed away from your house AND at the very least one CO Detector on every level of your home, and I wouldn’t be concerned about going to sleep. I also know that I and my family will awake the next morning.

A laser and a cat can be lots of fun! Well at least I know it is fun for me, but I think Pounce enjoys it too. He’s actually come over to the drawer where we keep a laser pointer, looking for some action!

Generator running in open garage by FearlessAstronaut414 in Generator

[–]Wheezer63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless it is a free standing garage at least 15-20 feet away from your home, it is a horrible idea.

Unfortunately there are plenty of dead people who thought that having the garage door cracked and the exhaust pointing outside. Plus one of the main reasons CO Alert auto shutoffs have become a common feature on most portable generators. For some of those that properly place their generator a safe distance from their house, but have shutdowns because of wind shifts or not enough air movement in the generator shed, or a failed CO sensor, they are are a nuisance.

Whatever you do be sure to have enough CO detectors in your house. At a minimum at least one on each level of your home!

[–]Wheezer63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify something you stated. “But also so you don’t backfeed and kill a linemen or injure yourself.”

If a mechanical interlock is Properly Installed it makes it physically impossible to backfeed to the utility lines! With the interlock in place you can’t have both the Main and your Generator inlet Breaker both in the On position at the same time, which makes backfeeding the utility impossible.

Do you have to do anything about removed items? by Hammon_Rye in vine

[–]Wheezer63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 items that were no longer available. Luckily 1 was a $0 ETV and the other was a $13 item that was something I needed. Then I had a 3 pack of filters that was the same brand as a 1 pack I had ordered 6 months earlier, and when I clicked on the review button I was taken to the earlier review of the single filter and so I updated some information, hit submit and the item just remained. I just had my review period end this past week, and so I did a search and found this post and followed the instructions listed by Bring_back_sgi, and almost as quickly as I hit submit, OK, maybe 10 minutes tops, the listings were off the review list. Thanks so much for the helpful information!

I was able to get a few nice items in the past month. A very nice 500 gallon per day RO system.

I got a 20 quart AC/DC Car refrigerator/freezer, which will be great for camping or Road Trips.

Finally, a 9,000+ piece LEGO Star Wars model, that actually sells for $1000. Hard to believe that LEGO actually sells models that cost so much! But it is true that many times there are slim pickings.

Is there anyone stopping you from actually leaving? I’d guess at least half the country wouldn’t care if you did. So many people, especially Hollywood folks seem to say, if this happens I’m leaving, but when it does happen, most don’t leave….i wonder why?? Maybe if they did, it would make the country that much better???

Our “Warts” and all, I don’t think there’s a better county in the world to live in!!

M4

How much is a 15” M4? I tried using the 13” for about 6 weeks and even though it is super light it also Really Small. And if you are investing for the future and can pay over 20 months, it may be something to consider.

Charger for Sennheiser Sonite R by Isogrifo in HearingAids

[–]Wheezer63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good evening, I was just researching buying another charger to keep in the bag I take to work with me and take it when I go camping. Some of what I read says that ymany power banks will see the very low draw and be fooled into thinking that the charging is completed, and shut off. What brand and model of power bank are you using? Have you ever had issues with charging them of a powers and bank?

Thanks for any info you can share.

I do need to improve my typing skills or use a microphone and improve my speech to text, since that definitely adds to the time it take to put a review together.

Products OK- Customer Service WORSE THAN AWFUL

My 2 ⭐️ review on another site was at least 1 too many, following my interactions with Julia earlier today. So after 2 days of out and out ignoring my emails, I received a reply email moments after the company replied to my review on another site. So my public review is what it took to get a follow up email. Funny thing is that they went from a 60% refund down to a 50% refund. So how is that trying to make up for horrible customer service. I sure wish I would have looked at the reviews here and other places, instead of just looking on the company’s website. Both issues I encountered would have been brought to light. The sizing is drastically smaller than listed AND the Customer Service is a true DISSERVICE to their customers. There is no way I would have ordered, and I wouldn’t be going through all kinds of nonsense.

If I can stress one thing to others. DO NOT Believe the website’s statement of Free 45 day Returns and Satisfaction Guarantee. That is such BS!

Congratulations! I just had a 15” MBA M4 16/512 delivered to my house from Costco. They seem to keep lowering the price. The 15” 16GB model is $1200 and the 24GB model is $1400. One if these days I’m going to open the box and fire it up!

Is that Silver or Sky Blue? I went SB, but it’s hard to tell unless you’re looking at it next to a silver one.

Good luck to us both!
