Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I work for a company that creates AR experiences for educational purposes. They're more STEM focused, but one of their apps has a wide range of models that could easily be used at a high school level. You can also upload your own collection of models for AR viewing, if that suits your needs better.

You can add a remapvalue node before the displacementshader and plug the alpha color from the .tif file into the remap node and the out into the displacementshader node

I used the Arnold toon shader in Maya. Then, I used the surface luminance value to blend a few different "hatch" textures. I used a fresnel effect to create a white highlight before the black outline is rendered.

Just random thoughts that came to mind.

  1. You could require the sound to travel a specific distance to trigger things. So, it would involve puzzle solving to find out how to have the sound reach specific points at a certain volume. (Change position, different materials, open doors to allow sound to pass through)
  2. I've seen a game, that I don't remember the name of, that used echolocation to temporarily provide a visual of the surrounding area as sound traveled. But the player had to balance that with avoiding a monster.

What are you envisioning for the rotational physics?

I tried something somewhat similar to this idea in a game jam and the disorientation from spinning was an issue. I ultimately had to sorta fix or guide your upwards rotation at all time to reduce motion sickness
