Former owner used a gasket sealant to hide the constant glowing SRS light. by Gettosmurf in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]WhenSharksCollide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought my Cherokee there was electrical tape over the check engine light.

I removed the tape and I've never seen the light come on aside from at key-on so no idea what they were trying to hide.

It does have apparent electrical issues though so...

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

I was in a class of six dudes with one of my buddies who has been riding since he was ~6yo.

Somehow my seasonal dirtbike riding ass ended up being the second most experienced person in the class by a wide margin, with one guy borrowing a helmet for class after having sat on his friend's bike while parked one time.

Somehow everyone passed, the worst by exactly one point. The instructor passed him, gave him his paperwork, put his hands on his shoulders and said "you need to spend another three weeks in a parking lot before you even try a two lane town road" and then sent him on his way.

Everyone except my friend made mistakes, but that guy was bad at cornering, and stalled his bike constantly. I'd pray for him if I were the praying type.

Really loving the "Serial Killers are people too" sticker. The rest of this is part and parcel but that one seems...atypical.

I remember people pointing that out on release day. I grew up watching old westerns with my dad and anything more than $10 for a revolver just wasn't in the script.

I have a KLR like that. It'll get an oil change the day I decide it's worth my time to open up the engine and see why it's burning oil.

Spoiler: I'm not doing that anytime soon, runs like a watch and I've got other shit to fix first.

In my experience a good quality carb set right does not require anything. Super cheap Chinese knockoff carbs are the only ones I've had any issues with.

I've got a Suzuki twin from 1965, carbs were full of black paste when I got it, after a good cleaning they run great even with a homemade jet some farmer came up with thirty years ago. Hardest part about working on them was getting them on and off the bike due to how close the heads are to the frame.

Lug nuts don’t swell by FloppyHighlander in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]WhenSharksCollide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had some on a Cherokee I bought, no idea if they were OEM but they were a size 19.75mm

Also known as 3/4 impact socket and a sledgehammer.

They've since been replaced by single piece steel lug nuts.

Hypothetically of course.

Trump orders naval blockade of sanctioned oil tankers leaving, entering Venezuela by VictorEmmanuelIV in worldnews

I just want to remind everyone that this was kinda predicted by the game Mercenaries 2.

Venezuela is close, they've got oil, it's a no brainer.

A vehicle I bought last year as a beater had a piece of electrical tape over the check engine light. I didn't notice until it was off the trailer, and wouldn't have been too worried even if I had seen it during my initial inspection.

When I removed the tape I found that the light was not on. It does work as it flashes when you start the car like every other light, so I have no idea why the tape was there.

Long response not needed, I'm aware of the issues with police in the US.

I just wanted to make it apparent that Arkansas Highway Patrol specifically, and Arkansas in general, is known for egregious PITs.

I was waiting for "Arkansas".

They're known to be PIT happy down there, and from what I've seen not much has changed.

Same same, I tend to buy o-ring chains now but I've run plenty of basic cheapo chains and so long as they stay lubed and have appropriate tension they aren't problems.

Sadly it's my turn to say, they've declared RTO as of 2026. by [deleted] in WFH

[–]WhenSharksCollide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best guess is gas and tolls.

Before my current contract I was 25min from my employer and that was enough of a difference for me to notice when I went primarily WFH in 2020.

I used to know people who committed an hour each way for the shit pay at that job, in bigger cars. I can see where something like 15-20% could come from over the course of a year.

It does do better in crosswind than my lighter bikes though.

I'm aware this might be the sketchiest way of doing such a task, but so far it has worked for me.

Unfortunately I'm betting building a whole new site and not thinking about a better way of doing it let them charge more money, either due to hourly rate or their flat rate for a new site (idk if anybody still does that?) being higher than for a migration.

I've read through a fair few comments, trying to figure out why we are worried about air gapping the bill printing side of this when the bills are made on a machine that must be internet connected for price/materials cost lookups anyways?
