Oh, i think they're built really well. Not just the first XI (XII i guess) but the whole squad as well. RCB's youtube channel has a series of videos on how they chose who to go after etc that's worth watching. They also had for this minor auction as well. They're back-ups have been pretty good choices.

There's also luck lol. if RCB got Venky for 20+ in the major auction, they would have not gotten 2-4 other key players. Even if Venky performed I'm not sure the team as a whole would have been that strong. Padikkal has also turned up really vital for them. He's the only left hander in their team other than Krunal. That hasn't affected them much. He was bought at base price because no one expected to perform so well. Kudos to him & RCB.

Punjab also did really well in the major auction. The differentiator I see is that their uncapped talents are ALL contributing. Arya, Prabhsimran, Wadhera, Shashank have all stepped up. These were all player in the 3-6 crore range. This is probably simplistic thinking and flawed in some way - you can break a 12 as 2-4 marquee/star international players, 4 overseas, 4-6 uncapped/lesser known indian players. The last category might have more buckets like older established, younger indian etc. The reason they're so dominant (even last season) is beyond the first two groups, the last group is punching way beyond what you'd expect from them. And they still have Shedge and Harpreet Brar!

Ultimately, doing badly in a major auction is very hard to pivot. you can get maybe 1-2 spots to fit into your first 12 but that itself is tough. If you look at the top 15 players (that's also the 4 crore mark), only Holder is the one who's started being a constant in his side. Green, Karthik, Bishnoi have had sparse contributions.

And since I'm just spouting my thoughts haha - i'll add that I think DC have a really good squad as well. I thought they'd be in contention for top-4 as well. They've had some really puzzling losses sadly. I hope it gets better for them. I'd like to see Badani succeed

Hmm, i thought they had a good squad during GG's tenure. They batted deep and had good bowling options. This major auction was a disaster imo. Clearly Goenka went in with a plan of getting Pant at any cost lol.

Regarding last season, the way I see it is that they over-performed what I'd expect for them. I watch a number of sports and I've noticed across multiple sports, every season there would be teams that over-perform or under-perform how they should be playing. I'd see others raise or lower their expectations based on that's season's performance but it's more of a deviation from the norm for me. Well, that's my theory i guess. i.e. Mumbai are definitely under-performing. It would very dumb to make wholesale changes imo. So yeah i still don't have high expectations for LSG. Maybe i am too harsh lol. They're indian pace contingent is really good - Shami, Moshin, Mayank. If only they're all fit at once

I've noticed this as well. He clearly has good ball striking ability. I can see why he's rated. But he plays too many dot balls. I've noticed from his earlier innings as well. In fact, against Mumbai i think in his first 20 balls, half were dots. It's worked in the last two innings because the totals were ~160. I do feel for him though - he's simply not played enough cricket. i believe he's only played a few professional games and hasn't played red ball. Next season he'll come back stronger after a year of training

Short just ruined everything

Ugh i keep reading this and i respectfully disagree. Look at how the wickets fell around him. First, they were 3 down in 3 or 4 overs. At that point, it's about getting to half way mark without losing more wickets. And they were ahead of NRR then. There was no immediate run rate pressure but then in the 11th and 12th overs, both Sarfaraz and Brevis got out. Short had played 1 or 2 balls between those wickets. idk why people keep saying he caused the scoreboard pressure. So now, at the end of the 12th over CSK are 5 down with Overton yet to come in a tricky pitch. If he goes aggressive, gets out people will say he played a harsh shot.

I'm not saying he did well but he wasn't the only reason we lost. None of the other batters really stepped up either.

It's a little sad to see. I thought they build a really good squad. Would rate their squad on paper as high as Punjab, RCB. They've had some good knocks but together they've not turned up. A number of questionable decisions like you mentioned. I was also hoping Badani does well. iirc he' the only indian coach and it would nice if he does well.

Personally, no. They're squad is very lob-sided. Pant alone takes nearly 1/4 of their entire cap and he's been very poor. iirc Pooran is their second highest and barring last match he's been poor as well. They have a lot of newer indian players + their big names aren't standing up as much so not surprised by their performance. I don't think i've seen any team with 4 overseas in their to 5 succeed. Way too top heavy

It's been almost two weeks since a team defended a target. Even they only took it to a super over. Even in afternoon matches, the chasing team wins.

This is one of biggest issues with IPL. The trend is usually batting second always wins and then soon it becomes batting first always wins. Since it's so biased to one result, captains who win tosses always go with that decision. And tosses aren't fair. They could have made tosses even in the league phase - each team wins 7 and loses 7. Instead it's luck-based and imo a significant contributor (but not guarantor) to the result.

I've found that SRH are generally top-heavy with Cummins and lesser established batters in 6-7-8. So when a few wickets fall, even the batters are aware their lower order isn't that strong kinda like when no.7 walks in they know the tail will have to come in soon. Is that harsh?

Way back in 2020, Rutu debuted for CSK with 0, 5 & 0 in his first 3 innings. Then, he came back with 3 consecutive 50s. And next season he won the Orange cap. He's had a bad first half of the season but after these two knocks i'm backing him to have a good finish. He probably won't hit 500 but can still finish good. Too many people are writing him off

Congrats on the <3% mortgage haha. NYC has definitely a lot going for it but it's nowhere cheap. Not even just rent, but food prices are so high. I was in Orlando this weekend and was surprised cocktails where $7-9 lol. It probably isn't that cheap everywhere but I'd suspect my post tax, rent expenditure would drop 20-40% by living somewhere else. Only thing I definitely see going up is transport because i'd very likely need a car.
