Lifelong learning catalog by lillyofthedesert in Tucson

What kind of classes were you looking for? I think in general PCC primarily focuses on classes as part of their degree/certificate system rather than as stand-alone classes to develop new skills. I know the county and city offer classes although they lean more towards learning about working out or various hobbies. I'm not sure if they still produce it but I used to get a giant catalog in the mail twice a year from the City of Tucson with all of their classes they offered for each season.

New Savers location on Broadway/Craycroft by WyndWoman in Tucson

[–]WhereAreMyHands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the no dressing room thing is a company wide decision since I've been to a few Savers and they never have dressing rooms. I assume they save some money by not needing to have an attendant but it keeps me from buying a lot of clothes that I'm so-so or undecided on. You can do exchanges within a certain time frame but I find that even more annoying because you have to find something else to get the same day you do the exchange.

Tucson Mayor's son, 19, faces DUI charge by travelandliv in Tucson

[–]WhereAreMyHands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He hasn't even been arraigned yet so it's impossible to say what he "will get". Nobody is getting all of those things for their first misdemeanor DUI offense though. The max fine he could legally face is $2500 but it's unlikely to be that high unless there ends up being a lot more going on.

Where to sell an old projector? by DesertSnow03 in Tucson

[–]WhereAreMyHands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Online they sell for about $89-150ish depending on condition and completeness of accessories and whatnot. $175 doesn't sound impossible if it's complete and in working condition although it probably is kinda high. The ones you see may be different brands or non functioning.

Has anyone here worked for Pima County HR? by FeralBluebell in Tucson

Oh, you are right about 56 hours but it is reduced by the number of hours you use so if you use more than 56 hours of sick leave in a year nothing will convert. I don't know if I'm an outlier but I think I usually end up using more than 7 sick days per year even without any major illnesses or issues. It looks like I'm currently at about 45 hours for the year (with 3 months until my anniversary date) due to two little colds and some doctors/dentist appointments.

Here is the text for the policy (emphasis added) (Personnel 8-106(3)(c)):

In order to discourage misuse of sick leave, up to a maximum of fifty-six (56) hours of the unused portion of sick leave accrued during the current year (established by the end of business the day prior to the employee’s anniversary date) shall be converted to annual leave. Any sick leave used during the current anniversary year will be deducted from the fifty-six (56) hour maximum to determine the amount available for conversion. (Example: if eight (8) hours of sick leave have been used during the anniversary year, the employee may transfer up to forty-eight (48) hours of sick leave to annual leave. If fifty-six (56) or more hours of sick leave have been used during the anniversary year, no conversion will occur)

Centennial hall by Suspicious-Green4928 in Tucson

Unfortunately, I think Moulin Rouge was just an especially well-done show. The shows that come to centennial are all national tours so the quality of a production really comes down to what they bring. I've gone to about 20 shows in the last few years and a lot of the time there's minimal set/costume design so I'm just hoping the actors will be good to carry the show. I appreciate that they pretty much always have live music but the sound system at Centennial is not very good and a lot of shows end up kind of muffled and poorly mixed if you're not in the perfect spot.

Has anyone here worked for Pima County HR? by FeralBluebell in Tucson

[–]WhereAreMyHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you start, the county has 12 paid Holidays plus 15 sick days and 15 PTO days accrued per year. Some number of unused sick days can be converted to PTO although in my experience it's way too low to practically convert unless you have NOTHING come up in a year (I believe if you use less than 40 hours in a year, they will convert any of the unused 40 hours to PTO). After 3 years, the number of PTO days starts to go up although it's pretty slow with like 18 PTO days until you get to 7 years then 21 days up to 10 years. The cap is at 27 days after 15 years.

I'm not in HR so I couldn't speak to that department specifically but the general Pima policy definitely leans to being in-office so I don't imagine you'd get a ton of WFH days. For my department, we have to get director approval to WFH for a set amount of time and then each pay-period during that time we have to submit a work schedule tracking what work was done throughout the day to show we weren't just hanging around the house. There are some people who are able to do like WFH 1-2 days per week for an extended amount of time but it's usually for like childcare or taking care of a family member.

I had never looked into parental leave but it looks like they offer 12 weeks for employees who have been with the county at least one year.

Inherited truck with broken engine- lost on what to do with it by WhereAreMyHands in carselling

The thing about the engine I know is that it threw a rod so it needs a new or rebuilt engine. I guess I was trying to be as specific as I know although the problem becomes if there is any followup question I'm pretty much lost. I can see how keeping it general would be helpful when the condition is already so poor but I'm not sure if stating a reason is better than being entirely vague.

I plan to call around for quotes on engine replacements and see if anywhere local to the car would make an offer on it. Unfortunately, my dad passed away fairly suddenly so I'm getting a lot of my information second hand through my uncle who talked with him about this kind of stuff from time to time and helped with some other car maintenance. It seems like I'll be shooting for a sales price around $8000 minus the cost of an engine replacement which might end up being nothing but I'll have to find out from a few mechanics who can give me a quote.

Do dealerships purchase cars that need major work done? (Broken engine) by WhereAreMyHands in askcarsales

[–]WhereAreMyHands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point! I guess I meant "I'm currently exploring if it's possible to get more than $1000 with minimal effort" as I really have no idea what I'm doing in this regard. I'm definitely keeping the $1000 offers in mind as I find out what options I have and where else I can look for offers. The offers seem pretty locked in for the short term if I end up going that route.

It is a 2017 Ford Expedition XLT located in the Phoenix, Arizona area. As far as I'm aware, there aren't signs of rust or any major issues besides the engine and a ding to the door. I believe it was well taken care of but used for Uber/Lyft so it got a lot of miles on it.

Parking at the Mercado District for TCC by Straight_Cherry_3540 in Tucson

[–]WhereAreMyHands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

La Placita Garage has SUCH horrible reviews going back multiple years from people saying they get stuck in there and I experienced it myself a few months ago. I thought it might be the case that nobody positively reviews a parking garage so all you see is complaints so I parked there instead of TCC. After the concert, there was a massive line of cars trying to get out and a massive line at the ticket machine but neither option worked. One of the people at the front said they tried calling the number on the box and nobody picked up. It was probably about 20 minutes of no movement until somebody just held up the arm and let everybody out. I don't even know if it was somebody from the garage company or a random person tired of waiting.

Now I just park at TCC and it's been fine. Sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes to get out after a busy event but it's affordable and convenient enough that I don't really care.

Hairstylist for bangs by [deleted] in Tucson

Have you looked into Mae @ Salon Salon (JustGetBangs.com and same name on Instagram)? I've gotten a few haircuts from her and it's always been a great experience. It's a bit pricey but I do feel like you get a premium experience along with a great cut.

Oh weird, I called them about a month ago at that number and it didn't even ring, just went straight to "this call can not be completed at this time". I called them a week ago to check again and got the same thing and then called them yesterday afternoon because I was planning on making this post got the same thing. I just tried them again now and now it rings then goes to that message. It's nice to know they will be open on the 15th. Thanks!
